Ok ill bite. Weekend job for a friend. Tweeter replacement, DIY Balanced LM1875 Quad amped Bookshelf mod. DCX2496 Digital crossover setup and tuning.

Start: Blown Tweeter.

Attached: image.jpg (2448x2448, 1.37M)

Disassembly and look how much room I have for new tweeter.

Attached: image.jpg (3264x2448, 1.62M)

Ok this is my handy work from a decade ago. 2 X balanced input lm1875 with +/-28v power supply. Looks good. But.....

Attached: image.jpg (3264x2448, 1.95M)

There is an 12db resistor network I put on the input because the balanced xlr was too hot ! But now we have decent 64bit digital volume controls I'll remove it and make it much louder.

Tweeter is removed now let's do the woofer and check wiring for reinstall because crossed wiring here can melt speakers. Looks good.

Attached: image.jpg (3264x2448, 1.72M)

Ok so good news we have heaps of room for the new titanium dome tweeter. No woodwork. Wow got lucky this time

Attached: image.jpg (3264x2448, 1.6M)

Ok let's repeat this for the right hand speaker........ Yep good another success.

Let's position these guys in a the room properly. Yep. Looks pretty good.

Attached: image.jpg (3264x2448, 1.23M)

Incase anyone missed it there is a huge ass piano black sub under right of TV so is this a 6 channel stereo set up Sub mid hi X 2

Ok let's get the measurement mic out I have a pretty good idea of the crossover points. I use butter worth 18db through the whole range ( It's for the Le cleache cx algorithm ) Yep sounding good.

Attached: image.jpg (3264x2448, 1.48M)

Ok next job with measurement mic is the dcx2496 auto time correction function.... This aligns all the channels in time and IS THE KILLER FEATURE in going to all this trouble to amp everything seperately.

The room was big and had a long echo. Any way the sub is set to 0 and the woofer has a long delay with the tweeter followed a nice 30mm delay.

Yep sounding holographic alright. So this ends part one of - three part series. I hope you enjoyed.

Part two is the Le cleache minimal phase crossover Algoritm - it uses a inverse midrange hack to get some superior global phase response

Part three will be the black art of programming the digital. EQ and room correction tweaks.

Hey man. Your 20's is building a sweet hifi. Your 30s and 40s and 50's are for finding a fucking house to fit it and play loud music. Good luck...

im quite lucky negibours are a bit far away and dont really care if its loud except when its really late in the morning

what kind of speakers do i need to reduce the spl? the amp has a 0 to 10 slider and its already up to 60db at 1

Wh wh wh whaaaaaut.jpg

Missin QX-2 owner here, just recently released british speakers.

ask me anything

previously owned Dali Zensor 1, Mackie CR4, iLoud micro monitors, KEF LS50 and a chunk of bt speakers.

For the price I paid for it it's definitely the best choice.

Any.of those speakers I listed will be perfect

But does it have a Wikipedia article?

Good work user. Thanks for taking the time to share that with us.

Saw your post last thread. What drew you to mission? You ever owned one of their older speakers? I believe they were bought out after losing money for years and now they exist in name mostly. Anyway the front of those speakers look quite nice, let us know how they sound compared to your previous speakers. Personally I'd like to know what gear you're using with them, as well as your previous gear ownership.

why do people buy the Behringers so often when the dbX units aren't much more and have a better build quality and actual support?

probably because they show up so often in the used market for pennies on the dollar

can't argue with that. in 2218 though it's Made on Planet Earth too

what are Jow Forums recommended speakers? my shit tier genius sp hf1800a are almost done.

pmc ib2

i saw their LX2 on amazonwarehousedels and thought about trying them and checked up online opinions.

good reviews across the board and and a new lineup just on my checkout so i thought. let's try this shit instead of the lx2.

i don't know much about the company yet but i'm not brand retarded except when it comes AMD vs INTEL i'll always choose AMD because my special snowflake syndrome won't let me purchsae intel anymore.

amps i owned was DENON PM-520AE, Sabaj A3 China AMP, Marantz AMP1 and now the Denon PMA-1600NE which is the best i had till now, got all with massive discounts in mind and owned them long enough to understand the differencies in sound. maybe i should just go the Zeos route and get the most Powerful Crown their is in germany.

about speakers, i owned Dali Zensor 1, Mackie R4, iLoud Micro Monitor, KEF LS50, Jamo C97, Dynaudio Emit M20 and now the Mission QX2.

Also i owned many chinese IEM's and some good hifi cans like fidelio x2 and he-400i

And a bluetoothspeaker oddyssey as well from JBL btspeaker series to Vifa and Aiwa and i almost have a new speaker every week in my possession to decide if i keep them or not.

about the QX in overall, it was a rather fortunate order. it immedietly got discounted due to soccer worldchampionship and i took the hit for 381€ instead of 449€ MSRP.

to put it short about sound quality, simply amazing. love at first sight. the highs mids and lows are just perfectly and very very interestingly tuned. the bass is very clear and dominant. the mids are not as good as kef ls50 will ever be but this doesn't hurt voices and trumpets/saxophones that much.

the highs are pristine and musically speaking more revealing without fancy trebble boost like Dali does

do modern amplifiers still have these available or is it all proprietary shit thats meant to be thrown away when it breaks?

looks like this is what i need to find

Attached: volumething.png (314x21, 13K)

something cheaper?

Look into Ascend Acoustics. Very reasonable in price, very neutral. Don't let the 1990s website turn you off.

sorry

What about a cute girl who loves you

>get proper hi-fi speakers for the first time
>set them up, play high quality song
>tfw you can hear the different artists' position not only left to right but in depth too
>live songs feel as if you're actually there
>can hear the type of venue they're playing in

just wait until you start watching porn and you can literally hear the shit hitting the saran wrap over her mouth

Nice work! The LM1875 is a great little chip. They "biamp" the Event 20/20s which are some of my favorite cheaper powered monitors.

does not exist

Are Mackie Speakers gud? Pls respond

824s are a classic, but nothing special, cr series is garbage

>cr series is garbage
thx bb

but from what i can research, they still hiss like the LSR305's, just to a lesser extent. my room is extremely quiet so hissing would be an issue.

get something like KH120 which still uses good old A/B amps. the whole Neumann KH lineup is practially free of self noise

What's we ear with the back rear speakers (7.1) when you listen matrixed music?

matrixed as in upmixed? don't do that.
music in stereo means front left and front right and the rest should be silent

Dolby Prologic II Music is not that bad tho

Okay guys. I'm placing my order tomorrow. 12 week wait time. I'll also be ordering a set of Hifi Racks speaker stands in oak finish. Honestly I can't wait, I haven't been enjoying music in months, ever since I sold my KEF LS50 and replaced them with really really unsuitable (horn) speakers for a room of my size. Ah well, it was one of the most fun learning experiences I've had in this hobby. I don't know when I'll ever own another set of speakers that could pressurize my room like my old ones did.

Attached: IMG_2935.jpg (1200x1600, 297K)

Looks great. What amp are you going to use?

I'd get some nice classic spendors like bc1 or 75/1 for that kind of money, but each to their own. they sure are pretty

For Harbeths like your pic? Wow congrats!

> I don't know when I'll ever own another set of speakers that could pressurize my room like my old ones did.
Maybe I'm just getting old but I don't care about my movies and music being so loud they stun small animals. Movies and music I like just loud enough to be dynamic.

pass labs xa30.5
do you like them thanks cant wait to get them

Don't shit up my thread.

My favorite thing about speakers is their ability to project sound in front of you. That's some wizard shit.
>The bells sound like they're coming from right in front of me
youtu.be/q0z08OpmEPc

Is the Yamaha HS5 any better than the LSR 305?
What about the HS7 and HS8?
Is there any other brand/model of monitors around the LSR 305 price worth checking out?

>you know seeing those videos on kenrick sound playing acoustic songs through their speaker systems sure sound good
>I've got those acoustic covers artists I like did of their songs in my collection, I should give them a try
>I'll even download the music kenrick sound played and listen to it too
>sit and listen

Exactly! With the right positioning, the sound seems to come out of thin air, it's magical.

What's the best audio interface for around 100-150 bucks? I know this is not the best place to ask but I can't find a other threada to talk about this particular kind of gear.

Scarlett 2i2

nothing magical, just psychoacoustics

No, the LSR305 is the best speaker in the known universe.

Doesn't make it any less amazing.

Why ''audiophiles'' hate compressor/limiters?

Attached: 2018-07-03 20_20_58-Liste de lecture Winamp.png (1163x578, 440K)

Why compress

dynamite comes in small packages, why can't my sound?

Are you recording the music?

> why do people buy the Behringers ?

They are just late to the party. My friends and I all bought ours over a decade ago. They were the only game in town back then. I remember paying over AU$500 for each of those boxes back then - digital DSP like that seemed like alien technology back then. Amost everyone was still using regular CD's !!!

The DEQ2496 powersupply had a nasty habbit of exploding. I am all ears for discussing Digital CX options in 2018... even more so since i have gotten into 5.6mhz DSD. Are DSD digital CX even possible ?

Attached: DIGITAL CX.jpg (2448x3264, 1.89M)

i thought you had beer in a microfridge

>window blazing glare

>BLURRY PHOTO

WHYYYYY

thats a shit critique. if you knew your audio-foo first thing he needs is big ass rug on the floor. Thats one hell of a live (echo) room

>dynamite comes in small packages, why can't my sound?

Uh, you do know dynamic range compression is not remotely the same thing as data compression right? Your post seems to imply that you don't.

For kill the silence, for make the sound always loud. I don't talk about data compression
No, it's only a VST when I listen my music, I will never record like that
I'm not this guy

Why, what's wrong with dynamic range? Shouldn't soft parts be soft and lout parts be loud? You're throwing away one of the main aspects of creating the tension and emotion in your music

Not him but there are occasions where dynamic range compression is useful. Mainly for stuff like automatic gain control in radio receivers so you have all stations coming in at about the same volume level, it also plays a role in stuff like de-essing when cleaning up speech. You really wouldn't generally want to do it on audio though compressors and limiters are sometimes used to deal with clipping in audio.

Pro mb 2>ozone 7

ruins the fidelity, doesn't it? doesn't it also introduce more distortion?

>Are DSD digital CX even possible
when converting to DXD (384kHz) to do the DSP. Takes a lot of processing power, even full-DSP devices like the adi-2 pro disable all most of their processing when running DSD/DXD, so no more filters available to build crossover functionality.
So you'd probably need a beefy computer based system running Pyramix and their native hardware to do that kind of processing in DXD/DSD

the first thing he needs is a new camera

DSD offers no advantages over a conventional 24-bit 96 kHz system

DSD is also noisier

sure, but that's not what he was asking

Agree. I only used dynamic range compression through windows media player when my wifes asleep and im watching a michael bay type movie.

The idea of using it on music you actually want to listen to on good equipment seems counterproductive.

Whats the point of all that work when he's using playback through a low end Tannoy?

Harbeth 30.2?

Very nice.

definitely old school giant cabinet symmetrical cone shit
its like those vintage cheap paper cone and plywood speakers from the 70s except re-engineered with quality materials and supercharged on crack

Attached: image_3689.jpg (1024x769, 775K)

>its like those vintage cheap paper cone and plywood speakers from the 70s
nothing in common with these, spendor, harbeth and rogers made the highest quality reference monitors for the bbc, from the 60s on, that's where that design comes from

interesting read harbeth.co.uk/usergroup/forum/the-science-of-audio/speaker-design/215-bbc-style-thin-wall-cabinets-why-so-special

alan shaw presents a convinicng argument that his philosophy on speaker design is a good one. theres different approaches to any speaker design and i think at the end of the day harbeth has such a great sound. i respect if you dont like it, but you really need to hear a pair of harbeths if you havent before judging. im just waiting for the shoppe to open before i go, cant wait to finally place my order. wish me luck boiiis

nothing in common, yes, but the giant box design

Attached: image_3686.jpg (4032x3024, 1.24M)

didn't mean to imply i don't like harbeth
its just these bbc commissioned types look like 70s stuff
