I'm having a problem with going to college. I'm supposed to be in my 4th semester out of 6. I'm still stuck in 2nd semester courses. Its not difficult, computer engineering, but i have these shitty moments when nothing matters for couple of weeks. just affects my studying and i stop going out or talking to friends. I skipped a ton of college time. I did finish studying most C and python language which felt pretty similar.
I want to quit college and start studying on my own. took me just a bit over a month to study the 2 languages. I'm confident i can do stuff on my own. but. I need help in knowing what should i study to land a job without a degree or diploma from college. I have strong connections so i dont have to worry about looking for jobs, i just need the knowledge for the job.
what else can i study on my own that isnt languages? im already learning languages on my own.
sounds like you have mental health problems to work out on top of all the school stuff. best of luck to you.
you have to identify what you enjoy developing if you want to go in-depth and get a job programming. do you want to write back end software? do you want to be a web dev? what are your interests? identify that and start googling for information. don't let people spoonfeed a path, you won't learn anything that way.
Hudson Taylor
Thanks!
I really don't care to be honest. Never really liked coding to start with. So i went with "fake it till you make it" after i read it somewhere. i said fuck it i have nothing else. i'm super interested in reading people's codes now. getting new ideas and building my own.
I just want help from someone by showing me paths and not telling me whats best and whats needed in the market. i just want to have lots of knowledge of everything technological so that if i do like something it wouldn't take time to persue it.
I know for example knowing terminal/cmd and few coding languages doesnt make you an expert but makes it easier for you to get into security and networking which is also interesting. Don't have facts but just heard it from someone and will be putting it to the test soon.
Jordan Cox
>I want to quit college and start studying on my own. took me just a bit over a month to study the 2 languages. I'm confident i can do stuff on my own. but. I need help in knowing what should i study to land a job without a degree or diploma from college. I have strong connections so i dont have to worry about looking for jobs, i just need the knowledge for the job. And I think you're full of shit or just a moron. Besides learning a language or even two to a useful level in two months being complete bs, if you had those strong connections to get jobs, you'd just ask these strong connections what they want from you.
If anything you're just the 4526845th claiming degrees are useless because muh skill, please kill yourself.
dude, get a job something unrelated to computers. code for fun.
Nicholas Reed
I'm not trying to come off as "im too good for a degree" but im absolute shit for one.
I really don't want to turn this thread to "im a faggot give me attention plz".
I have shit to deal with like any other person but what i dont have is support.
I'm just asking what are some shit i can do because i know there isnt just coding, security and circuit boards. I could just look it up but i need to know more to know what to look up.
Isaiah Thompson
I'm currently working as a part timer. Was cool at first but it gets depressing when you think you might end up one of those people that work there for 45 years at minimum wage. Nothing wrong with that but i know i can achieve better.
Zachary Collins
look into comptia certs for a+ / net+ / sec+. look into the lpic certs for linux. study for those, you could get some sort of bs IT job probably.
Thomas Powell
>look on craigslist for a job >don't be picky >do said job >look for the next (better) one etc. or stay in college
Mason Evans
If you can't even get through college why would you be successful on your own? I mean, after all you're posting about it asking for help lol.
Ian Russell
Looking over this thread, you might consider taking a apprenticeship in some classic trade, Op. Of course that means physical labour, but the pay is good and it's less of a burnout struggle as dealing with PCs.
Craigslist... Doing random gigs sounds like a good way to end up dead behind a dumpster
Luis Hernandez
it's hilarious that you think that.
Joseph Cooper
>It's not difficult >Stuck in 2nd semester Yeah no, you might as well drop out now. This is baby level shit compared to what you need to do later. I'm also going to go with the belief that you're full of shit, because if you in fact had "strong connections" or were as good at programming as you claim you wouldn't have even asked these questions, you'd have a job already. And dropping out of school looks bad in general as it shows strong lack of disciple, assuming there were no medical or family issues(and no "depression" is not a valid excuse)
Isaiah Young
It's sketchy enough selling to randos.
Cooper Bailey
He's Van Wilder lol.
Carson Stewart
yes, it's dangerous to agree to meet people online and bring something valueable of their chosing. But it's not dangerous to agree to meet someone in an office park to look at their shitty software and see if there's any way you can do what they need. I'm going to assume you're OP because you don't seem to understand the way anything works.
Nathan Wood
Lol? Hate OP that much?
Connor Baker
Why do you care so much? OP is clearly retarded anyway
Easton Thomas
You seem to think I'm OP?
Jose Mitchell
let me get this straight, you think that responding to and meeting small business owners on craigslist to sell them programming services is dangerous? and you think they'll possibly murder you?
Noah Martin
I'm not the guy you're arguing with, but OP and the guy who thinks replying to job listings on CL is somehow physically dangerous are both morons
Samuel Cox
Not if you're actually showing up to a physical brick and mortar office. However, the context is that of the OP; if he dropped out of college he would be unqualified for any consulting type work; even the random shit on CL
Juan Smith
>if he dropped out of college he would be unqualified for any consulting type work; even the random shit on CL there's where you're utterly wrong.
Henry Evans
As someone who has been through college and university.... The ones that drop out are bottom of the barrel retards. No, he is not qualified.
Carson Martin
that makes me a 'bottom of the barrel retard' that has earned a good living from consulting work for about 5 years now.
How does it feel: > not having a stable income > not having healthcare > doing taxes 4x a year > not having any fringe benefits at all
Andrew Stewart
>not having healthcare if he's exiting college he'll probably get covered under his parent's until 26 assuming we're talking about typical american health insurance. >not having a stable income I have a stable income. I don't have a guaranteed income, and nobody does unless they're on disability/ss. >doing taxes 4x a year You don't even have to do it the first year. >fringe benefits don't make me laugh
Joshua Miller
My healthcare is best in nation (ppo at $150 deductible)
Full time here. Income is stable. It's always the same on the 1st and 15th.
You have to do your taxes quarterly or put down enough for the entire year.
I get 15k in fringe benefits.. So yes, laugh
Grayson Collins
Fucking just kill yourself you fucking queer, this is a forum for discussing technology, not your petty fucking bullshit.
Landon Johnson
>15k in fringe benefits can't argue with this infomercial-tier logic >It's always the same on the 1st and 15th. you can always pay yourself a salary instead of passing everything through your company >You have to do your taxes quarterly or put down enough for the entire year. do you actually understand how withholding works? >My healthcare is best in nation (ppo at $150 deductible) if that's your priority then it explains the rest of your posts. I'll probably get sick eventually i guess.
Landon Rivera
15k is a new car.
Healthcare is important last I checked?
I have no idea how withholding works; I just know that you pay in advance or quarterly. Again, i have no interest in consulting. Having to equal up my salary now through consulting would be working harder than i do already, and for what? I own the "rando consulting firm" that no one knows about? Ill pass
Matthew Rogers
> I need help in knowing what should i study
More important than the programming language is the software design patterns associated with them, as well as the fundamentals of computer science principles. In other words, the mathematical foundation. Learn about things like complexity, O(n), O(logn), O(n^k), and O(k^n). Things like binary trees, binary searching, and sorting, and other concepts are a must. Languages are easy. You said you learned two on your own. Anyone can learn a language, the important piece is effective algorithm design. I recommend a book on design patterns. Look at the bottlenecks of software development, how to make programs modular, and learn about agile and waterfall development methodologies as well.
Ian Wood
>I have no idea how withholding works; I just know that you pay in advance or quarterly. If my accountant does their job, I pay quarterly. Just social security, that's about 15% of my total income. You never even see a cent of your income taxes (at least 25% based on what you said), your employer keeps it and pays on your behalf. It sounds like you're either not very smart or literally just started working if you didn't understand this.
Camden Russell
Why do you have to be a dick man :(
Thomas Jones
I literally don't care about doing my taxes. I do it once a year and that's enough for me.
Fag. I'm not one of those types that complains about shit infrastructure and then complains about high taxes.
Carson Mitchell
It's obvious that I pay more taxes than you do and I don't really complain about 'infrastructure'. Then again where I live they're already trying to rebuild everything so it would kind of be a moot point.
This coming from a special snowflake making up bullshit "diseases" for why he's too much of a pussy to finish school
Josiah Kelly
Where are you from op?
I thought I had maladaptive day dreaming, but I realised that it's another shill to give you more excuses.
Take responsibility for your actions and move on from the past. You can't control the world around you but you can control your actions and choices.
Luis Nguyen
Nice orojection, stop pretending you know any psychology.
Jordan Carter
> psychology Not actual science; so if any diagnosis came from a psychologist it's bullshit
Connor James
ask tyrone to remove his cock from your 'p key' at once or get off this board.
Mason Watson
Get off my dick you triggered ass npgger
Gavin Sullivan
Because it's obvious you have no intention to being a programmer for a living. So just drop out of college and move on with your life instead of wasting more time and money.
Lincoln Nguyen
Helping someone is more important than a python hate thread or whatever people here usually do.
Parker Martinez
There should be a psychologist on campus. Talk to them.
Anthony Phillips
This guy doesn't want help, he wants a pity party and/or people to tell him it's okay to drop out and be a failure
Christian Gray
Jesus fucking christ, this guy doesn't what advice he wants some enabling to justify quit uni and boomer consultants in this thread who are listing off their dreams as reality. Unless who are some fucking genius not having a degree isn't going to help, fine you want to teach yourself, do it. Push through it and get the degree
