I had a discussion with my friend over the whole end of net neutrality and the corporations now beginning to charge for HD services on mobile. His argument is that the corporations have every right to tax people and slow down their internet because high speed internet, HD, and mobile drain a lot of power that we aren't paying enough into, and the throttling of speeds will help pay for new fibers to lay down to keep up with the physical maintenance. Is my friend right or wrong on this/

If they really cared like any gpu or cpu company atm mildly cared they would atleast work to find cheaper or more efficient ways to give you internet so they don't charge you up the ass

Why am i still at 50mb down and 10mb up for the past 4yrs at the exact same price

>the corporations now beginning to charge for HD services on mobile

cellular providers have always offered tiered planned.

Tmobile has been giving away free youtube streaming since 2012 I think.
Cell providers always had data throttling and data caps.

This didn't just happen faggot.

yer bud's a floozy

make him explain why comcast is 5-10 times more expensive for the same quality of service compared to a european provider.

He's wrong because internet should be a free to use service by anyone who simply wishes to connect their router with other devices. ISPs shouldn't exist.

>They aren't paying enough
>Meanwhile connections to ISP affliated media streaming isn't throttled
Who could be behind this?

>Internet is everyone's right like oxygen. You have a mouth you should be able to breathe it.

Exactly

>right or wrong
Your friend is an idiot.

Comcast and Verizon are some of the most profitable companies in the nation and have been for quite some time. They do not really care about improving their infrastructure because they maintain regional monopolies or duopolies and they don't need to worry about competition.

>help pay for new fibers to lay down
Americans pay more for less. The telecom companies are just pocketing the extra money.

pbs.org/newshour/world/internet-u-s-compare-globally-hint-slower-expensive

>For an Internet connection of 25 megabits per second, New Yorkers pay about $55 — nearly double that of what residents in London, Seoul, and Bucharest, Romania, pay. And residents in cities such as Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo and Paris get connections nearly eight times faster.

Unironically this.

Your friend sounds like he would defend a local nuclear facility dumping radioactive waste into his drinking water.

If people really don't want nuclear waste water than they should pay for bottled water. Having to properly dispose of the waste will hurt profits too much.

when has that ever happened?

Less government regulation should be the goal. The government can’t find its ass with both hands.

Anyone who wants more government control hasn’t had to deal with the government much.

American ISPs dont even build their own infrastructure they lease it from municipalities which build it from tax payer money.

ISP shouldn't make the difference between a video packet, a text packet, Facebook packet or a torrent packets. They should transfer all data the same.
You're using too much bandwidth? They can charge you for additional bandwidth or whatever, but only for "all purpose bandwidth", not only HD video.
This is net neutrality.

except there have been multiple times where taxpayer money has been given to telecomm with the sole purpose of upgrading infrastructure and every single time they've pocketed it and done jack shit while raising prices and slowly raising bandwidth on the same deprecated shit

>The government can’t find its ass with both hands.
That's because it's elected by a bunch of people who don't represent the sane majority.
Did you vote? No? Then don't bag the government.

how much of a kike cocksucker do you have to be to beg for companies to fuck you in the ass

Yeah man, let's overthrow the government and let
Comcast rule us. Real fucking epic.

Comcast isn't the only ISP, there's dozens of them.

He was being sarcastic, faggot

americans unironically believe that though

He's wrong. They already duped the municipalities with this once, got a bunch of subsidies, and did nothing. On the flip side, he's right that they have every right to conduct business in such a way; leaning heavily on federal deregulation to do what they've wanted since ma bell was broken up. The states are also within their rights to regulate themselves how they see fit, creating a veritable spiderweb of laws the ISPs must now navigate per state just to operate when they could've left well enough alone. It was cheap and easy to lobby one department within the federal government, but doing so state for state is going to hurt.

Will 5g fix America?

5g will be redefined by the FCC, per what the ISPs want it to be, so no.

>Is my friend right or wrong on this
by "friend" you mean "I'm being paid by comcast to astroturf Jow Forums."

Because they can be.

Comcast can't even keep their network up, lately.

GLORIOUS "CAPITALISM"

I can't believe Jow Forums falls for such obvious bait.
>my friend said he wants to be enslaved by corporate overlords. Is he right or wrong to believe this?
straight up reddit-tier premise and no one bats an eye.

>Americans will get faster wireless with 5g than wired
