Anyone use a hand-crank generator before?
Why are cranks so unpopular?
They're loud, slow, and it's a lot cheaper and easier to use an AC outlet and/or a spare battery.
They can produce maybe 5 watts while your cranking. Charging a phone would take a couple of hours of straight cranking, and it's pretty tiring after only a few minutes.
Ever since big battery banks got cheap they're essentially worthless.
>5 watts
not at a sustainable pace
Exactly. After a few minutes of putting out 5 watts your arm is going to be getting tired. Ten minutes in even really Jow Forums people will be taking a break.
Because there is basically no fucking need
Even a 10Ah battery pack is like 3 charges to most phones these days
and then you can get solar ones and leave it on a window sill
Natural disasters happen but even then cranking battery banks are trash. it's literally emergency only, you would have to crank it for like 5-6 hours to charge a phone.
If you really need emergency just get some 9V battery adaptor to USB or there are 2 AA battery ones
Just attach a solar panel to it. Then have the solar panel drive a motor that cranks your hand-crank generator.
I'd be more popular with a feet-pedal based generator.
Better yet, plug a fluorescent lamp into the wall to power your solar panel that powers the motor
battery tech still sucks balls
my solar meme panels battery dies every 12 months
you either get the high end ones but literally more expensive than your normal electricity bill or get the cheap chink ones that last a couple of months
I have this thing that can charge my iPhone directly. It has one 18650 battery in and it is really tiny. Gives a large charge to my phone (like 80%+ from dead). Great for an emergency.

Because foldable solar panels can produce more electricity over any sort of significant period of time.
They still require a power bank.
Guess I can bring that with my vape
I have one of those survival radios with a flashlight crank solar panel and charging port. Was out of power for 2 weeks last year after a hurricane. It was fantastic when I didn't want to use my car inverter or generator. I wouldn't try to charge a phone with it though.
Infinite energy holy shit
That's because your solar meme battery is retarded, heat kills batteries and when you attach a solar panel to a battery you're basically strapping it to a fucking solar cooker and slow roasting it every time you leave it out.
If you want to be less dumb get a solar panel with usb output and use that to charge a separate battery bank that you keep out of the sun.
Funny thing is most people find just placing the battery under the solar panel is good enough. If really hot putting the battery in shade with a cord long enough to reach is best
I have them. They are to loud to be used in public.
everyone look at this faggot lol
Your arm does not have the power to output more than a few watts over an extended period of time
The solution is leg powered, cyclists can output up to 400 watts
Just attach Shimano dynamo to your wheel and get picrel. Buying eco meme devices lead nowhere. I grew up of this phase.
Where can I get a all metal crank arm?
Bonus if there's a gearbox to increase rotation.
I live in Japan. If a big earthquake hits we can lose electricity for a few days, maybe even a week. What sort of device should I buy to keep my laptop and phone batteries charged in the event of a disaster?
invertor and car battery
Nice usage, but wouldn't it be fucked as soon as it starts raining?
No because shimano is closed completle and USB box us also closed and only have a waterproof usb 2.0 port.
Solar panel, battery and inverter
>His phone's battery capacity is 125% of 18650's capacity.
you'd think that people on Jow Forums would be excited for that because their wrists are so strong from fapping to lenovo laptops all day but nOOOOOO
IT'S TOO HARD TO FAP FOR A FAP BOYS
Or use a solar cell.
Very interested in this as well.
Right now my solution is several UPS, pic related.
Supply up to 12V, with 8800mAh battery inside.
I have a case with one and it saved my ass more than once. go get one.
Bike attachment would be nice. Turn rear tire into generator. Be a nice thing to have for the cabin.
Chink as FUCK
I severely doubt I would be stranded out in the middle of nowhere. If my car and phone died during a trip, I'm sure I could stop at any business, explain the situation, and use their phone or they'd let me charge up my phone on a wall socket.
Wouldn't mind getting one of these dynamos for my bicycle. (Pic related)

Take pics of the housefire
Don't forget to plug the wall power into the wind turbine that is being turned by your fan/s.
What if you're stuck in Siberia during winter?

Thanks for telling us you were being sarcastic, I couldn't tell. Fucking dipshit redditor.
Not efficient enough
You need to be basically sweating to even get your phone to even think that it's charging at all
>iphone
>surprised it has a miniscule battery
Just go back.
If you're gonna use it stationary in an emergency put it on the rear wheel
>/s
Maybe he meant fan/fans
The iPhone 6S Plus has a 2750 mAh battery.
The 18650 in the mini powerbank is 2200 mAh.
Oddly enough that gives exactly 80%, which is impossible given charging losses. So mine must have had some charge left. That said the first half of the battery charges more efficiently than the second half.
Does that thing have anything spring-loaded keeping contact with the wheel? If not, I wouldn't trust it. Otherwise, you're gonna have to fiddle with that thing every time you hit a bump the wrong way. It's pretty apparent that that rubber doesn't compress a whole lot, so any impact that translates up through the wheel is gonna kick that thing around. Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe that clamp + fitting is strong enough to keep everything in place, but it seems a little suspect to me.
You'll have to re-adjust it when it wears down, too, though I'm sure that's a lesser concern.
>Anyone use a hand-crank generator before?
Absolutely!!!
>When you need a blowoff valve and intercooler for your pocket socket
they're only practical to charge dumb-phones to make short emergency calls
>Buying even 1 Chinese power bank
Let me guess, its probably a lithium battery too and they've already started to swell.
Wait, this gives me an idea!
What if we start selling flesh lights with those stupid motion charging things, I can't really think of what they're actually called right now, but whatever.
All you do is run a cord out of them and into the wall. When you jerk off, you create electricity that gets fed back into the grid!
There's got to be enough forever alones in the world to make this work.
Imagine a world where we don't need coal, or nuclear, or solar or even wind! The most clean, sustainable power source ever! Perma-virgins!
>not using a solar panel to power a fan blowing into a wind turbine that is rigged to crank the lever while it spins
You don't take care of your battery thats why they die. Even the worst batteries don't die in 12 months.
This is the most reddit thing I've heard all day. Go back.
holy fuck you guys are retarded
Yes
I meant:
not the "/s" as "sarcasm".
by "fan/s" I meant it was either powered by one fan (a large fan like the one you use to blow air over you) or multiple small ones (your pc fans)

>dipshit redditor.
it seems everyone read as "fan(s)" and didnt even know /s is sarcarsm on reddit, guess youre the adolescent reddit user? this is an anonymous board, stop trying to fit in, theres no need
You realize black holes are super dense right? You dunce.
Could the shake mechanism in those flash light be used to power a dildo?
I can sustain 10w with a crank, you know, from, ehem, experience.
Yeah I'm a pro at masturbating.
Yeah this is an anime board.
Yeah fuck off.

You seem pretty fucking dense lmao
Not without some modification. You could have the coil there push the permanent magnet but you'd need to keep it contained pretty much inside there even if you flip the poles.
*SNAP*
What like turn on a vibrator motor? Those aren't cheap, wouldn't be worth it. Better off going pure mechanical with spring power or something.
Well, chink is the only thing available in my shit country.
And it's cheap for about 15$ you get new one.
I change it every year or so.
I just need it to keep my router powered on and to charge my tablet/phone.
Solar panels are extremely expensive like 150$ per watt here.
soiboys are weak so they can't use a hand crank
kek, i thought it said pocket suck.
what are you doing on your laptop without power?
>what are you doing on your laptop without power?
Maybe using it? Last year I went without power for three days and carried on with my desktop, router, and modem plugged into a generator
fucking japs you are jerking to loli while an earthquake kills your ass
I'm American, I was just pointing out that whether or not he has power a functional laptop is still a functional laptop
>Let me guess, its probably a lithium battery too
You mean lithium-ion, and believe it or not your brand of power bank has the same type of battery
That should be "fan(s)".
Imagine being this braindead and not even a Reddittor.
Parentheses would've been better but he still got his point across to everyone other than the guy who's totally not a redditor but was the only one to call out him out for using a reddit thing
>you're gonna have to fiddle with that thing every time you hit a bump
>any impact that translates up through the wheel is gonna kick that thing around
>Maybe I'm wrong
Oh you're most definitely wrong, to the point where every single member of the human race is in phycial agony over your sheer stupidity. Please leave.
Fucking retarded redditors just outed themselves TOP KEK
I don't want to hurt my sensitive Söylent hands
>desktop, router, and modem plugged into a generator
How are you going to get internet if most of the city is out of power from an earthquake?
Again, I'm not him. And generally power being out doesn't mean the Internet is too
>damage control
No he didn't and is objectively in the wrong
yea but what if you use stickytape to tape it to the wheels on your car though.. free electricity
>gas doesn't cost money
My sides
>weebs actually worship this shitty country
Pornhub tried that years ago

>not using superior estream.
>converting the generator's output to mains voltage only to convert it back to 5V
Why? It's not like you would use it with anything other than a phone charger.
>Why are cranks so unpopular?
Probably because they're loud, are likely to fail sooner or later, require constant effort, and can lead to RSIs. The only people I can see buying them are survivalist/prepper types.
>Anyone use a hand-crank generator before?
no, because you must be really stupid to use small muscles in order to produce work.
If you want to produce work, use something bigger, e.g. quads.
