I just ordered a 15-inch thinkpad, the t580. It's my first pc besides a shitty $200 inspiron that i broke in a few months when i was a kid. What does Jow Forums think? Respectable purchase for a noob? Any tips?

>not a xeon have fun with all those corrupt jpegs, friend
Colton Howard
what do ya mean
i want my precious jpegs to stay pure
Jaxon Ortiz
Then, there is no avoiding it. You need ECC ram, a compatible mobo, and a Xeon. Send it back.
Isaiah White
> U series CPU it’s shit > Windows 10 home shit > Intel HD graphics literal garbage > non dual channel RAM you dun goofed > only 256GB SSD oh no no no no HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
windows 10 is what comes on it but i'm open to suggestions
i don't know what that means is it bad
Brody Nguyen
Don't use windows, it fucking sucks. Use Debian-unstable or Arch.
Nathaniel Lewis
>i don't know what that means is it bad It means it will perform like a toaster. You should've bought the P51 or waited for the A485.
Brody Allen
fuck all you guys i think its tight so eat my ass
Xavier Fisher
> Intel HD 620 > tight Dude, that's a disgrace for any 15 inch laptop, it will barely drive that 4K display. For a notebook of that size, it should have discrete graphics or at least Intel Iris.
Ian Harris
can i replace it
Ryder Peterson
looks sweet
im jelly of your battery life
Lincoln Flores
.... why are you on Jow Forums
Joseph Cooper
to learn
Angel Perez
Very nice choice sempai I hope you will enjoy it for a long time ^^
Jaxson Nguyen
lurk moar
Luis Perry
Wouldnt a macbook suit you more op?
David Powell
>12GB RAM Should go with 16GB or 8GB. BTW I personally don't need 4k screen, but if you like it that's fine. 6-cell 72wh battery is god tier, good choice. If you will be using exclusively Windows, I'd go with Windows 10 Pro (you have tpm for bitlocker after all)
Xavier White
return it and get the P51, trust me. Don't forget to get the one with SSD.
Blake Fisher
fuck no i dont want to buy a million dongles, the only one with regular usb is the air which is only 13 inches and pretty slow overall
why 8 or 16? what is tpm for bitlocker?
Julian Williams
what will the noticable difference be for me?
Jace Gonzalez
It’s decent. I wonder why did you attract so many retards in your thread? Maybe they are jealous idiot poorfags.
Charles Martinez
> much better CPU performance > dedicated GPU (which is dozens of times faster than Intel HD 620)

Brayden Price
A $200 Ideapad has that same iGPU.
Jayden Cooper
Chinkpad Winblowz = KYS
Jose Fisher
I considered he doesn’t need that gpu power desu. I would have gone desktop pc for heavy work and laptop for small/medium workloads
Alexander Baker
congrats on making a mature decision. you won’t regret it.
pros -competitive price -smart look and design
cons -intel graphics
most on-board audio is bad also.
Daniel Gray
Should have got the ryzen version
Jacob Rodriguez
>not buying the T485 You fucked up.
Ryan Morris
*A485
Kevin Carter
>literally the first line of the first online review
are you saying i should've gotten a smaller computer?
Brandon Powell
Read the sticky, /wsg/ is for that type of questions. Also you should be able to make mature decision alone, there are enogh websites
Dominic Garcia
Sounds like some serious hardware. What do you plan to do with it? How much did it cost?
Mason Price
OP here, this laptop has something yours doesn't, a soul. Fuck yall
Samuel Stewart
How well does it work for homework? Can it run YouTube at 480? Is the wifi signal strong?
Jace Kelly
You're not me bitch 1800 with 5 year damage protection
Tyler Ross
Also forgot to add i'll probably just be typing, browsing web, streaming video, maybe some light gaming i play mostly older games though 240p is good enough for me
Brayden Bennett
I've got a T470. You'll like it. Enjoy, user. Don't listen to the trolls.
Lincoln Gomez
>1800 OH NO NO NO NO NO NO HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH > pic related
this the U proccesors are perfectly usable for an average user and they benefit with less power consumption
Lincoln Garcia
Thanks guys im going to sleep content now :)
Liam Diaz
for $1800 you could literally get a Retina MacBook Pro > 45W quad-core i7 > Iris Pro 5200 Graphics > 16GB of RAM in dual channel > 256GB SSD (user upgradeable) > 2880x1800 16:10 retina display sorry, you dun goofed user
autism if you think MUH CLOCKS is what makes a processor fast, but i know its ebin to bait OP so you do you
William Smith
He didn't get the optimal configuration, but it's a good machine. If he needed anything better he'd know he needed it. Let him rest. Not everyone needs to obsess over what configuration of what laptop to buy.
Brody Baker
>MUH CLOCKS is what makes a processor fast yeah sure, clock speeds doesn't matter at all, that's why people underclock i7 8700Ks to 800MHz daily.
it's pretty good, but from my experience with HP the heating is quite a problem. it's a good machine, and as long as you like your purchase then it's fine. btw got my own x270 last year with about $600 and switch an 256gb ssd fro $70, then the sata drive came with it went to my PC. if you were gonna directly config it from lenovo that same size ssd would cost about $200. basically, just lurk more. you will find the way to get the best for you if you're willing to learn. also >>>/tpg/
Ryder Miller
>FagBook "pro" No
Nicholas Cooper
>1800 >i5-8250U lmao, is Lenovo the new Apple?
Ryder Gutierrez
bump
Eli Allen
it has alot of features that drive the price way up for a laptop of that form factor
Luis Rogers
is this necessary? just reply to some post
Dominic Diaz
TPM is used for storing encryption keys. Windows 10 Pro has native encryption that uses it. Don't know how dual channel works with two different RAM size (4 and 8gb in your case). I'd rather take 1x 8gb or 2x 16gb. In first case you can buy another 8gb later.
Austin Thomas
and there's absolutely nothing you or I can do about it.
>laughing at all of you idiots who make a big fuss over a brand of laptop >sipping coffee while enjoying my sweet desktop
lmao nerds
Jace Gomez
>he fell for the newpad meme
Thomas Cruz
I miss being in middle school when shit like this was funny
Ethan Smith
There are alse E-series thinkpads with ryzens.
Chase Kelly
>Not getting the A485 you fucked up
Tyler Sanchez
People have jobs you know
Asher Howard
>up to 2.3 What the fuck, my 4810MQ sits at 3.1ghz all day and it'd go higher if it wasn't limited to 47w.
Jeremiah Ross
You can option it up to the highest Kaby Lake R chip for $300, so no.
Lincoln Wood
Found the tranny
Jackson Martinez
at least Apple uses Iris graphics in every model
Leo Green
The new U series CPUs are pretty great provided adequate cooling, for turboing which a laptop as big as the T580 probably has. Matches the performance of my full voltage Haswell mobile i7. Of course, they're still Intel, so I wouldn't touch it personally. A285 is the ThinkPad for me.
Ayden Adams
> Matches the performance of my full voltage Haswell mobile i7 yeah right....
Pretty good for average use cases. Make sure you stay on top of file cleanup otherwise you might fill up that SSD pretty quick.
Isaac Flores
>one 256GB SSD Doesn't that thing have like 3 HDD bays?
Leo Scott
no, but your mom has 3 dildos in her anus
Hudson Hall
>>:3 fuck off furfaggot
Christopher Campbell
Nigga the Kaby-Lake R ULV chips turbo up to 45W TDP and are quad core chips with HT. The only thing they're held back is shitty cooling in those Ultramemebooks, which is something the T580 should do better.
