Welcome to the /dht/ - Daily Haiku Thread

Haiku is an open-source operating system that specifically targets personal computing. Inspired by the BeOS, Haiku is fast, simple to use, easy to learn and yet very powerful.

There's not enough interest for a Daily Haiku Thread, you should try pushing a Daily Obscure OSes Threads, for Haiku, Plan9, Minix, Redox, React, RiscOS, QNX, OS/2, Solaris, FreeDOS, etc., maybe even *BSD as well.

Defeatist.

i tried it, it's so buggy, especially the browser

What are the differences from Mac OS X?

Why the such can't main Haiku repo update for 2 days?
When will you have Fish shell and Latex?
When will you have a working MPV?

>What are the differences from Mac OS X?
No botnet.
>Why the such can't main Haiku repo update for 2 days?
What?
>When will you have Fish shell and Latex?
Fish: help to fix this dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/13813
Im working on miktex right now.
>When will you have a working MPV?
When this gets merged: github.com/haikuports/haikuports/pull/2773

>Im working on miktex right now.
Why this monstrosity instead of texlive?

9/11 never forget

>What?

I think the SSL cert needs to be regenerated. LetsEncrypt sometimes needs manual labour, no idea why.

TexLive is ~1,5GB, while MikTex just ~40. That's why.

purposeless system
nobody wants to use it
it is but a meme

i tried the live stick in a t430 and was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked.

>TexLive is ~1,5GB
What?

I meant the source tarball.

Don't Linux distros run "installers" that fetch the necessary packages?

nice digits

Is this logo a reference to 9/11 or is it just me?

Why can't I set the resolution to normal aspect ratios like 1080p?

It could be your VBIOS or the EDID.

>No bother
So it's basically Mac OS X but with no drivers or software?

Exactly, so you know what Haiku needs. Let the devs know if you are up to help them.

Nah, I hate Mac OS X. Don't need another one.

i love haiku but it can be very buggy some times and its been like more then 3 years since the last stable update but hey thats what the nightly images are for right im thinking about finding a pc i can run it on im sick of just using it in vbox

Haiku is actually much less capable or bloated than OS X. It's actually just a slightly better Mac OS 9.
Also fish is fucking gay

>Also fish is fucking gay
I don't care for shell's sexual orientation.
It's the most convenient interactive shell out there.
And if you try to make, say, ZSH with the same features, you will have visible lag every time you open terminal.

There's visible lag with fish as well. The thing is, you don't need these features. Install rc.

>There's visible lag with fish as well
Not really.
If I open my terminal(st) with fish and start typing, all the letters I typed will appear as they should. With ZSH first 2-3 letters were inserted before the shell loaded and are now lost. That was unacceptable.
>you don't need these features
Fuck off, I want a convenient interactive shell.
There is dash for everything else.

Yep, zsh is heavy compared to fish. Just check the LOC, TempleOS have less LOC than bash or zsh.
