This thread is about the appreciation of watches, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.
Thanks. I put it back in the solution though, thought I'll leave it there overnight, because on closer inspection there were small bits of white stuff in some places still.
Chase Richardson
what'd you use? I have a special edition g shock that has a little white.

50/50 mix of 24% vinegar essence and water, left it in for a few minutes, then rinsed with water and brushed with toothbrush. I should have tried with only water and toothbrush first though, maybe that works just as well, so if I were you I would try that first. I don't know if vinegar essence damages the watch. I tried it because I used that for a plastic thing I had in my mouth in the night after I had my braces removed, don't know what it's called. Pic related is what I mixed with water.
Why does it have 1-12 on the bezel like it's for dual time zone, yet it has minute markings from 12 to 4 like it's for dive timing?
Zachary Barnes
Oh yeah, I guess I’ll post wrist game later today

It's the pilot navigator series so I have no idea. I want the divers but I don't have 1600 to spend, also this one is on sale for 225 so to me it's a good price to test this brand out.

he Marathon Military Navigator Pilot's Quartz is a highly accurate watch built to strict military specifications under MIL-PRF-46374G. Designed for pilots, parachutists, and law enforcement, the Military Navigator Pilot's Quartz is made to withstand the challenges that may face it in a professional or everyday environment.
First developed by Marathon Watch Company in 1986, the Military Navigator Pilot's Quartz was developed as a request by Kelley Air Force Base for a watch which could be used at high altitude, withstand extreme changes in pressure and altitude, as well as be an easy to read timepiece for a pilot.
Marathon fulfilled this with the Military Navigator Pilot's Quartz. Made from a specialized fibershell case that is water resistant to 6 atmospheres (60 meters - 200 feet), sweat and shock resistant, as well as lightweight. Included with the Military Navigator Pilots Quartz is a 20 millimeter width nylon strap made underMIL-S-46383B, Type III.The Military Navigator Pilot's Quartz also uses a special acrylic crystal which is resistant to extreme rapid changes in pressure that would be experienced by a parachutists that would normally cause a watch’s crystal to shatter or come loose from the watch.
The Military Navigator Pilot's Quartz is made in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland to guarantee the highest level of quality and accuracy in manufacturing. Powered by a Swiss made, high torque, 3 jewel ETA FO6 quartz movement, the Military Navigator Pilot's Quartz guarantees you a high degree of accuracy in timekeeping. The ETA FO6 movement is accurate to -0.3/+0.5 seconds per day and also includes an End of Life (EOL) indicator that will advance the seconds hand once every 4 seconds to inform you that a battery change is needed. Replacement battery is a 371 cell.

The Military Navigator Pilot's Quartz uses self contained Tritium gas tubes to ensure constant visibility in low light situations; therefore, a gas tube is placed on each hour marker, hand, and at the 12 hour marker in the bezel. Tritium tubes are self illuminating gas tubes which contain an isotope of hydrogen, meaning they will not dull down in brightness like normal photo-luminescent (glow in the dark) paint which requires an external light source to create a glow.

Finally got the 20mm Borealis rubber straps I ordered.
Put one of my divers on leather for the hell of it while changing around some straps. Make me stop liking it /wt/. Please. I don't want to be haram but it is making moist in the pampers.
A Girard Perregaux cal 42.4 Chronometer HF up for sale on eBay. Much less common than the more normal 42.1. According to ranfft, difference between 42.1 and 42.4 is not known, but it looks like one at least is marked 17j, whereas all the 42.1 examples I've seen are marked 39j. The difference is presumably the rotor jeweling.
It's kind of a good thing my country is almost completely nogunz, else apart from hoarding vintage Japshit I'd probably be hoarding Hi-Powers and Makarovs or some shit.
I just want to restore old shitter guns like I restore old shitter watches. But with these shitty gun laws I'm lucky to obtain ONE firearm.

So it looks like like the Jackson labs CSAC boards come with an optional SC-cut megahertz oven-controlled crystal-oscillator to act as a smoothing filter on the raw output of the voltage-controlled crystal oscillator that the CSAC governs. Aside from the increased cost (which is substantial), the added filter appears to meaningfully improve Allan deviation in the 100s range with the only downside being the warm-up time for the oven on the filter oscillator. The board even comes with two 10mhz outputs, one with the filter and one without; presumably with a good oscilloscope the difference should be evident.
Sup /wt/ I'm about to buy my first mechanical watch and I've narrowed it down to the Seiko SARB033 and the Seiko SARX035. I'm looking used and the SARB model is going for about $380 and the SARX model is going for about $570. I know the movement is the same for both watches, I just want to ask you guys what one do you think is a better starting point for a first mechanical watch.
They're both good, the SARX series just has better fit and finish. Since the SARB is a popular timepiece that got discontinued recently prices will only go up: buy it if you can
Brody Gomez
I'd go for the sarb. Think if you want to pay more for a little better finishing on the sarx but remember it comes with bigger size.
Hey /wt/ What are some essential sleaze-core watches?

Buying stuff like a rolex or similar if you are not a real enthusiast is so pointless. If you are rich it is expected. If you are not rich, everyone knows you have it on finance or you ate noodles for a year to buy it.
rolexes don't cost that much, at least not the entry ones. Anyone on min wage in most 1st world countries could have it in a year without sacrificing much. There are different times when different watches are appropriate to wear though
Jace Evans
Well I could have a Rolex, or I could save for anything else that is more important than a luxury Swiss watch
Liam Green
and that importance is subjective my man. Maybe they have pretty much everything else they need or want to be happy and the rolex is that last piece of the puzzle
Robert Cox
Cheapest Rolex is what? ~$4k? At full-time minimum wage before taxes in the US nets you around $15k, that's sacrificing almost a third of a year's salary for a watch
Evan Bell
hence most. In Aus min wage nets you $37k. Most euros are similar with a little higher tax but lower cost of living

Is it only tech that costs more in Australia? I know that at least that market can have outrageous prices

This is a watch I've been looking at, I'm about to join the military and I thought it would be a simple and cheap watch to fulfill my needs. My only concern was the light function, is it just a bulb or a true backlight?
Eli Ortiz
Bulb. It's pretty shit, but it works just enough to see the time in the dark
