I got a vali 2 as a gift from a friend recently, what DAC would go well with it?

Has anyone here attended a
reddit/head-fi/whatever
headphone meetup? I want to try some high-end systems because they aren't any stores near me that have anything so it's my best bet to try the good stuff.

Ant

Attached: sfdgf.jpg (400x400, 14K)

you could have just bought a good headphone instead of all that garbage

Thank you for the feedback but thankfully I have many good headphones.

oh right, post a picture of them I didn't see any in the one you just posted

Are the HD700 really that much worse than the HD800?

Attached: spider_and_dog.jpg (1193x699, 97K)

they're worse than the hd600

But how?

But why?

no

Attached: 34CDAD76-64C8-4350-8475-6138308F627E.jpg (2100x2564, 1.04M)

Is it worth getting if you don't have the 2.5K to spend on an HD800 + amp + accessories?

they sound great with my Crack

Attached: 6D6618F8-CB5A-4CB9-9BEE-226A5B1CBA29.jpg (2942x3366, 1.79M)

That's great but it doesn't answer my question.

Is it worth the 500 for a new one? Should I just get the Shure or a used LCD classic instead?

ask yourself this, why is a $1000 msrp headphone regularly selling for the same price as the 20 year old hd600

The left ear on my akg k44 finally bit the dust, i'm sad, this thing has a sentimental value to me, hopefully i can find whatever replacement parts are sold around and fix this thing, i'm thinking it's a simple de-solder, re-solder deal, fast in fast out. End of blogspot.

You should be able to find them new for less than $500. Never heard the shure or lcd classic. My point was they can sound great with a cheap amp. you could still go chasing diminishing returns with them.

What the fuck do I replace these pads with on the m40x? They get too hot.

Attached: 1530510930014.png (600x600, 177K)

onions

Stupid question but do you guys bother to carry around a portable amp, say if you are transporting on the train or do you just not bother and wait until you get home and when your away just plug the headphone straight into phone/dap

Topping D10

DT990 Pro any good? How's the bass?

This piece of shit sometimes resets or evem stops working when I turn off or disconnect the amp/receiver, a few other people have reported the same issue too. I assume the D30 doesn't have the problem. Otherwise it's pretty good.

or Topping D30, or SMSL Sanskrit
strange

Best cable replacements for hd600? Want a shorter one for when I'm not at home

No it's not avoid at all costs. Get a dt880, preferably 600 ohm as it's not much harder to drive than 250 ohm.
Make sure you get an amp with adequate power. Magni 3 would be ideal. OL dac/sdac/topping d10/30/50 for the dac.
Micca origen and 250ohm if on super budget.
Dt990 is just unimaginably bad so bad only usable for electronic music without vocals

Why is there another Amazon affiliate link farm in the OP?

because we have some retard who insists on it. Just report it, affiliate links are against Jow Forums global rules

its zeos

but yea dont know why

I would buy a HD650 cable cut it down resolder tape and heatshrink tubing.

A bunch of poor choices with easily superior choices on the market as well.
SR60e, pxc550, mdr-z7, mdr-1a, m300, m40x, lcd-x, m1060, m565, elear should all be replaced.

any 100-150 usd IEM recommendations?

Recommending those headphones to a majority userbase who don't even EQ. Most of those aren't just bad, they're straight up unlistenable without EQ.

I bought the massdrop Sennheiser HD58X Jubilee. Did I fuck up?

Attached: snap.jpg (1206x686, 332K)

Cool.

Nice snag :O

Attached: 1508591666955.png (689x546, 36K)

it's like the hd600 but less shouty and more extended bass

Shouty? Like treble?

Like HD650 but even more veiled.
But it can be EQ'd to sound better than HD650.

Most of the reviews are saying "more clarity" and "less veiled" than HD650.
I'm scared dude. Way too many different opinions. Frequency response says it should be more veiled though

The "warmth" peak is higher, thus more psychoacoustic masking there, which is what people oft call veil.
Though I don't recall the FR in the treble area... it might have more treble than the darkj HD650. Being "dark" is another form of veil.

>If I did it would be the most expensive one because of (maybe) placebo.
Lol, that's actually a pretty honest reason.

Do I have to understand every graph that gets thrown into my face about hesdphones and their specs or whatever to enjoy the high quality music or could I just buy HD600 and a DAC/Amp and just enjoy my entry level quality

Just get hd600. And that'll give you quite a bit more than entry-fi.

No, actually can probably enjoy your music with cheaper headphoned and no dedicated amp either.
To be enthusiastic about audio and the technology behind it and to be enthusiastic about music are different things, it's just that they go well together.
With that said, yeah, HD600 is actually above entry level, for many it's pretty much end game, i'm sure you will have fun with them.

Oh, you got a dt1990. Nice, I really want to add it to my shit pile but haven't got around to it. How does it fair compared to the he500 or hd650?

What fucking infographic you dumb faggot. I click the link and there is no infographic. Holy shit, just get a static image you dumb fucks.

Shittiest thread ever.

they sound like 600s but slightly wider and tiny bit more detail
music imaging is superb, they are weird for games due to how they make footsteps in your face all the time it's meh for anything but MP shit shooters
funny thing, they make voices sound more real than 600s, midrange is just more detailed can't put my finger on it
my opinion they are not worth $600, they are really good, but they do not do anything THAT much better than hd600 and lose on comfort quite a bit.

I notice how OP picture reflects thread activity, where is based anime poster? This OP is shit.

>HD600 is actually above entry level, for many it's pretty much end game
they scale with amps too well, I didn't believe it at first but when I got NFB11 it's like a new set of headphones.
I see how people plugging them into motherboard think hd600 is a meme.

I want to get a dac / amp for my hd 800s after saving some money up. I'm really confused about what to get.
Is it better to get separate units or an all in one design?
Are the quoted manufacturer specs on their websites correct, or do i need to look for 3rd party reviews?
What amount of power should i look for in an amp?
Are the audiophile reviews with buzzwords to be trusted?
does balanced vs unbalanced matter?

Attached: 1472708877818.png (790x773, 83K)

For HD800 you'll be fine with Topping DX7/DX7s
audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/review-and-measurements-of-topping-dx7s-dac-and-headphone-amp.2378/
>Is it better to get separate units or an all in one design?
Depends on build and design.
>Are the quoted manufacturer specs on their websites correct, or do i need to look for 3rd party reviews?
Never buy gear that is not measured by 3rd party
>Are the audiophile reviews with buzzwords to be trusted?
No
>does balanced vs unbalanced matter?
Not really

Do i need to get a xlr cable to use with an amp? The balanced (xlr) power output is higher than the normal headphone jack output.

Yes, with XLR you'll have to reduce volume a little bit. That's all difference you are going to notice.

dumb question: is a DAC needed when i don't hear any wrong coming from my motherboard?

if you are happy with it, be happy with it.
amp is more important than a dac by a huge margin

>Is it better to get separate units or an all in one design?
Separate. Much flexibility.
>amp
Magni3, O2.
>dac
Topping D10/30/50, OL-DAC

>expensive headphones
>everything around them looks like poorfag2

lul

$1 dac chips from china are transparent these days. Unless your source really fucked implementation up, you won't get any benefit from a DAC.
An amp, on the other hand, will likely actually help you.

Haven’t had chance to spend much time with them but very impressed fresh from the box. Initial thoughts are they are a major step up across the board compared to hd650 on the Crack. They are more resolving, handling complex passages with ease. very immersive. Gonna try to get a set of Amiron in the house to compare, would prefer it’s cable arrangement.

The only reason to even get a dac these days is if either your mobo is fucked or you need something to handle multiple inputs/outputs.

this thing drives my hd660s pretty well lol

Buy Topping DX7(S), it slays all overpriced audiophool meme products with its almost perfect measurements.

I broke my superlux HD330 last night and I need an upgrade but more of the same. How's the dt990?

maybe when they lower that 10 output impedance

...

Attached: Logo1.jpg (1024x443, 31K)

>that 10 output impedance
10 is fine for high 250+Ohm headphones
and as far as I know OI is bad only for hd598s
do you have any graphs for other headphones where it changes that drastically?

>How's the dt990?
shit

Literal shit

Omg Becky

Need to replace my headphones after 2 years, old Inland Dynamics are falling apart. Looking for over-ear, stereo, not an audiophile so as long as it's not crackling I don't care about audio quality. Built-in mic appreciated but not necessary. I need to buy these this month, and only have a budget of $30(and I can't find the infographic mentioned in the OP for sub-$50).

Any help dearly appreciated.

Oh, and background noise bleeding through is not only acceptable but preferable.

you go to chink shit general for sub $50

Chink shit? Is that all I'm gonna get at that price? :/

says the guy with a budget of 30 dollars

for $30 you cant even get tinaudio IEMS (which are good), let alone any decent non-chink over-ears

It's $10 more than I've ever spent on headphones before desu. The shit I'm replacing was $12 and lasted 2 years.

Should i get stax lambda nova basic or the SR-207?

this is why you go to /csg/, the experts in chink shit

If you want Stax you gotta wait months for them to get to you.

Might get some of them for me mum.

Great headphones but can be too sibilant

I have a pair of HD 558 plugged into a fiio E10K. What would you suggest for an upgrade? open headphones only pls

Compared to the superlux? What should I get then?

HD600.

sound neat but can my amp ride em?
