How often does Jow Forums change her desktop personal computer parts?
Which parts do you change the most often?
How often do you do an overhaul?
I'm still on an i5 2500k and HD7870!

Still using my 4820k (32gb ram, 970 3.5gb) here.
I always go for the workstation sockets since I turn it into my next server when I'm done with it (currently X5675, 24GB).

I never change components unless they break, until it's time to rebuild the entire system from scratch. I've only done that once since 2008.

History ended with Ivy Bridge.

i dont play games anymore so i don't upgrade much. i'm still using a fucking fx8320 because it works fine. the only thing i would upgrade if i had money is my nas, it's ancient.

Probably change the GPU the most often. I'm still rocking my E3-1230v2 but I've gone through a GTX 570, GTX 780, and now I'm on a GTX 1070. Will probably upgrade to an Ryzen 7 here soon.

Get a Vega 56 and overclock it and a 2700x I just built one and it shits over 8700k and 1080s
Good new gpus on 7nm new uarch are a couple of years away

Built my first pc in 2014.

Replaced the graphics card in 2016. My single blower 750 ti was shitting out on me and upgraded to a 950.

Upgraded from an amd fx 8320 to an Intel i5 6500 in 2016. So I also had to get 8gigs of ddr4 ram and a new MB. I also added an ssd for booting windows.

Two Days ago I upgraded to a gtx 1070 and bumped it up to 16 gigs of ram. I've never started a new build from scratch.

38yr old boomer here.
Running Ivy Bridge (2012). Bought w/ 560ti.
Bought SSD (2016)
Bought 1060 last year and doubled the ram.
I would really love to upgrade, but looks like I'm waiting for Ryzen3.

Still on an i5 2320 with a gtx 750 OP. been a long, long time.

What are you, gay?

i don't own a desktop any more. for the better part of the last decade, i've purchased a new laptop when intel releases the "less power and heat requirement" iteration of cpu. i forget it it's tick or tock or whatever.
right now I'm using a t480 with an 8th gen i5u. the old laptop usually gets given to a relative or used for a "server" for transcoding flacs or whatever autistic shit it is i do with a "server".
for data storage and backup i'm using an old shitty freenas build right now with 6x2tb drives in raidz6. i'm thinking of upgrading to one of those 8 bay synology things. i priced one out for 32TB raw on a mix of 4TB reds/ironwolfs with 2 250gb M.2 960 evos for caching... only 2k usd.

thanks for the blog post.

I haven't changed anything other than my hard drive since 2009. I was thinking of upgrading but components are too expensive and all I do really is play old video games on emulators and VR and the VR scene is so dead hardware wise that i'm not going to be buying hardware for at least a year and a half.

>How often does Jow Forums change her desktop personal computer parts?
When they die or are too slow for what I do.
>Which parts do you change the most often?
GPU probably.
>How often do you do an overhaul?
Never. If I ever upgrade some part I reuse the rest, so I never did a complete overhaul.
>I'm still on an i5 2500k and HD7870!
I'm also still on 2500K. I had an HD7970 but it died recently, so I bought an RX 480. I'm planning to upgrade to Ryzen soon.

every 3-4 news a whole new pc

wtb namefag pls

I have been using an 8120 for 7 years, I just stopped giving a shit.

I haven't upgraded in 2 whole months! Still on my 7700K and RX 480.

used a core2duo overclocked to 4.5ghz from 2008-2017
used a 9800gt from 2008-2011 and a 6970 from 2012-2017

id say CPU ever 10 years and Gpu every 5 at this rate.

the 2000s I'm not so sure on I got a AMD computer in 2001/2002 and I think used same CPU until 2007 thou is possible I got a upgrade of CPU in 2004 or some thing cant quite remember.

probably used more gpu in this era but mostly 2 as well.

I got a 980 and 7600k last year I hope to keep using both for a really long time as 980 is last card to support CRT. (will upgrade to a Titan X Maxwell with 12gb of ram in afue years but its same performance as 980ti)

kinda hoping GPU lasts really long which it might considering 11series will have same feature set as 9series. but its possible some new GPU tech becomes required and makes 11sereis only last a year or so and be forced to upgrade it to even a slower but SM7.0 or some thing card.

CPU wise I think a high clocked 4core will last you for like 15+ years at this point.

Referring to Jow Forums as a female entity makes sense, in the same ways countries are often referred to by female pronouns - especially in certain cultures/countries/languages. Similar to the expression "motherland", which is obviously female.

im on 2500k too but with the igpu because i dont care about new and proprietary games. only thing i have added is more hdds.

It's better than "their".

>2014
You must be 18 to post on this board.

you get bottlenecked with a 1070 ?
i'm planning an e5-2680v3 + 1080ti/1180 build, wanna know if cpu could be a gayming bottleneck

I upgrade every time Intel releases a new generation of backdoors. Keeping that shit up to date is the only way we can defeat the terrorists.

My Dell laptop from 2014 shits itself with Windows 10

E8500
HD6970
8GB RAM
Ready to use this for at least a year more. Mostly web browsing, some C++ development, some image editing, some old ass gaming.

I am fucking ready to get Ryzen 2 (not the refresh) next year though.

Every 3 years when the motherboard fails.
