The botnet is fucking everywhere, even presuming that on a software level you're botnet free every one of you browsing this thread will have their pc compromised at a hardware level most likely (unless youre one of those autists who buy refurbished think pads with cpu backdoors disabled).
How the fuck do you TRULY escape the botnet whilst being able to use modern technology, when the fuck is the FSF going to finish their project with developing their own hardware from scratch?
Remark: GNU/Linux is a fucking meme if you are running it off compromised hardware, it fucking does not matter one bit since all of you are using compromised hardware.
If you really want to have complete control over your pc try a clean install of arch and libreboot. A thinkpad x200 is your best choise.

An x200 is perfectly usable for anything apart gaming. If you really want to game get a separate machine just for gaming.
Arch might not be the most secure distro out there but overall it's really good. d Documentation, packages, customization and the overall control you have on it.
