Want help? >State the budget & CURRENCY for your build >List your uses - e.g. Gaming, Video Editing, VM Work >For monitors, include purpose (e.g. photo editing, gaming) and graphics card pairing (if applicable)
CPUs >R3 2200G - Bare minimum gaming (dGPU optional) >R5 2400G - Consider IF on sale >R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs >i7-8700K - Best for 1080p gaming, but most expensive when factoring in delid, high-end cooler, etc. >R7 2700/X - Best high-end gaming/mixed usage on a non-HEDT platform >Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT
Motherboards >Only Z300 series boards can utilize fast memory with Intel
RAM >8GB - Enough for most gaming use >16GB - Standard for heavy use >32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this much >Current CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal
Graphics cards >GPU prices have gone down 1080p >RX 580 or 1060 6GB are standard 1080p 60fps+ options >1050Ti or RX560 for lower settings 1080p, or older games >GTX 1070Ti/Vega 56 if seeking higher fps & you have a CPU + monitor to match 1440p >Vega 56 or Vega 64 /w Freesync; 1070Ti if you already have Gsync >GTX 1080Ti if seeking higher fps & you have a CPU + monitor to match 2160p(4K) >Titan V
Storage >Consider StoreMi >Consider getting a larger SSD (better GB/$) instead of small SSD & large HDD >2TB HDDs are barely more $ than 1TB >M.2 is a form factor, NOT a performance standard
Monitors >Always consider FreeSync with AMD cards >Lock to 72fps on 144hz non-Gsync monitors with Nvidia cards to prevent tearing on more demanding games >PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING
yo ive got some 3 pin fans and in my motherboards bios (c6h) the fan chassis controls give me fuck all control over the curve, it cant actually be dropped under 50%... any ideas?
aaaahhhh, fucking ryzens and its damn ram issues. Im fucking selling both my ram kits and getting fucking one 16gb stick to evade any fucking problems in future. Shits annoying af
Dominic Reyes
I'm going to install genuine Windows 10 N Education (better than Enterprise) And Gentoo in a VM It's going to be super! :)
Logan Cox
>inb4 1x16 doesn't run either because you fuck it up again
Worked for me first try lol. All I did was put it into A1 and B1 slots.
Robert Garcia
should i buy this? what will be my regrets? all ill be doing is light gaming, anime and not much else. also ill try to get into programing with this and ill be using windows for now till linux is compatible with it. is this a good or bad idea Jow Forums? also is it okay to make a case out of wood? i dont feel like spending on a case. i just got the money and have been waiting over a long period of time trying to make my first build but dont really know if to wait for deals or not. its been over 5 months and no deals on any parts nor the 2400g have show up and the b450 motherboards arent here yet. any info on when they come out?
You can fap to anime from your phone don't really see why you need a computer for that.
Charles Richardson
never said ill only be doing that. ill be rendering anime in 60fps with vps cus i like the. way it looks. i cant do that with my phone also watching shit on a phone sucks penis
Michael Long
>never said ill only be doing that your quite honest user, i like you.
Logan Jones
lying is a sin
Evan Wilson
130w is the limit of my pico psu. What internals can I put inside? Thermals are not an issue.
Joseph Ross
Why is the 1080 not in the sticky now?
Daniel Brown
try 4 sticks, dual are fine I dont have problems with 2 sticks running at designed 3000mhz, with 3 sticks already it goes to shit and cant be set past 2133mhz I just bought g skill ripjaw V, so I guess ill be fine
Because the 1070Ti and Vega 56 offer near identical performance for less money. Stickly is about value, not feelings.
Eli Garcia
>also is it okay to make a case out of wood? Sure, you could make a case out of a pizza box if you wanted. Just remember to use proper standoffs for your motherboard, you can buy those off of ebay or one of those chinkshit sites.
>apply to nvidia grant >then see you can't do that as a student Fuck them
Nathaniel Ross
I've spent the last few days researching what parts I want for my build and the problems I may or may not have to circumvent in order to install W7 on it. I know someone was kind enough to write the guide for plebs like me, but does Jow Forums really think it's worth the effort to get Ryzen? Also >R3 2200G >R5 2400G If anyone else is getting W7 make sure you don't get either of these two for your build. I read somewhere that an installation is impossible due to some AHCI compliance issue.
James Wright
Why do Ameriniggers always have much lower prices? Fuck this shithole
Xavier Hernandez
*tax/VAT not included
Sebastian Foster
My Vega 56 runs below 65 with overclocking
Grayson Rogers
So? Amerinigs pay 1% in tax and cry that they have to give a few hundreds for health care.
John Robinson
>not TR TS140P aka /ourcooler/ No
Xavier Kelly
B-Die would be optimal, the point is get a 2x8GB kit faster than 2666MHz if possible
Adam Adams
Intel's 28-core 5GHz stunt ran below 65C too, and look how that went
Luis Allen
Are you retarded?
Juan Price
>Comparing a literal refrigerator cooled server chip to an air-cooled GPU The absolute state of Intel fags
Wyatt Carter
thanks but wat do u pep think of my future build? wat should i change?
Jaxon Martinez
Is a vega 64 worth it for ultrawide? Could one expect it to last on high settings for another 2 or 3 years?
No one can really say how much ameriburgers pay in tax. It varies a lot because for some reason they're too stupid to set their taxes at the federal level, so each state gets to have different tax rates. Also store owners are apparently too fucking retarded to calculate taxes to include them on their pricetags because of it, so they only get their actual prices shown at checkout.
Leo Davis
Can you build a desktop computer for £100 with the ability to watch Netflix and browse online? Not including peripherals.
>It varies a lot because for some reason they're too stupid to set their taxes at the federal level Yeah that's so dumb, they should just set federal taxes and provincial taxes on top of that, charged on top of the post-federal tax subtotal, like civilized countries (insert relevant meme image)
James King
Yes
Julian Martinez
buy a used 2DS write "desktop computer" on tape stick it on unit backside
Jordan Hernandez
just get a used Dell Optiplex around that price.
Ethan Roberts
No, user. Do away with provincial/state taxes. Simplify your shitty system by having only one set of tax rates instead of who knows how many.
My CPU comes with a stock fan. Is it necessary to buy a separate $40-50 fan, even if I'm not going to overclock my GPU?
Michael Sanders
What CPU?
Aiden Flores
Thanks user, bought it. I was looking for b-die ram
Noah Sanchez
Looking to build a machine that could run OW. How's it looking? Any way you could get it cheaper? What's really inefficient and gonna fuck me in the long run if I try to upgrade it?
I'd straight up get this, but you gotta pick it up in a literally who location.
Elijah Morgan
>Pentium >Kepler >aftermarket cooler Just eliminate all 3 of those and grab a 2200G. No need for a graphics card.
Jason Hughes
does intel still make their own boards? if so, is anyone retarded enough to actually buy them over a different manufacturer's?
Jace Nelson
yeah there's absolutely no reason to buy anything besides a Ryzen APU if you're just playing OW
Joshua Phillips
>Ryzen APU Gonan be honest lads, I don't know what an APU is in comparison to a GPU or CPU.
Jackson Barnes
Is normal for the CPU keeps moving to 46° to 50°?
Bentley Richardson
i5 8400.
Jordan Ortiz
a cpu with integrated graphics. the rizen 2200g has the graphical plwer of a 1030
Jace Martinez
APU combines a CPU with a GPU to be one singular chip Intel already puts GPUs on their chips too but they're for basic browsing functionality and have no real power youtube.com/watch?v=Ev3s0jYVwOo youtube.com/watch?v=WBEJoAoW944 The other user is pointing out you can buy an APU that comes with a pretty good stock fan as opposed to three separate purchases (the Ryzen stock coolers really are good but a 212 evo is always nice too)
Colton Diaz
Ask thinkpad general and see if they can find you a thinkpad for sub-$100
Isaac Bailey
look at this guys build
Matthew Collins
APU is AMD's marketing term. it stands for "Accelerated Processing Unit". Basically, an APU is an AMD CPU with integrated graphics. AMD's integrated graphics are actually fairly powerful and among the most powerful integrated graphics ever, around the performance of a GT 1030.
Angel Hall
That's honestly nuts. >Some AMD B350 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Raven Ridge CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions. shietttttttttttttt
Cooper Gonzalez
i shit you not, you can send AMD a message through their website and request an update CPU compatible with the older bioses that you can update your board with before stalling a new APU you'll have to send it back, of course, but the fact they even do it blew me a way a little
Ryan Gonzalez
send back the update CPU when you're done with it, i mean
Blake Gray
its fine, most motherboards should come with updated bios and if ur not lucky enough u can sign up to ands warranty shit and theyll send u and old apu for u to update the bios for freeeeeeee!!
Much better. Although I'd say you may as well spring for a 2TB because they's usually $10-20 more than a 1TB
Jordan Adams
Much better. And you get 4 physical cores instead of 2. You can get more performance from it by spending a bit more for 3000 mhz ram
Jeremiah Ramirez
I'd get a 2200G or a 2400G, a B350 motherboard, a 2x4GB 3000/3200 kit, a WD Caviar Blue, a Enthoo Pro M (more airflow than the 275R but it's a bit bigger) or a MX330 and a M12II 520 or 620 EVO uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/Q7M2r6 youtube.com/watch?v=Iv_ZQqJpgcw
Kayden James
NEW NVIDIA CARDS LOOM BOYOS
Aaron Wilson
doubtful, but not like it concerns me anyway sitting pretty with 980TI SLI
Jayden Collins
Getting a 2x4GB kit is important to get the most out of the GPU
What are qualities I gotta pay attention to when buying a 3.5' HDD external housing? I wanna use it to back up my photography stuff. The store I buy most of my hardware from only has ONE housing for more than one drive and I dunno if I really need more than one.
Cameron Torres
You're on Jow Forums. Nobody cares about Nvidia products.
David James
iGPU*
James Hernandez
Wrong. I have SLI 1080ti and would buy an nvidia CPU in a heartbeat if they made high-end ones.
Xavier Wright
bitch build yo'self a NAS
Isaiah Torres
Is a i5 2500k still good these days? Overclocked to 4.5Ghz
Depends what you're doing with it and the GPU paired with it, but yeah, it's good enough for most things and most games I'm using a 3770k clocked at 4.6GHz
Brody Rogers
Enjoy your housefire, Intard
Henry Nguyen
Single channel memory will stutter. Especially with an iGPU, it'll stutter like mad.
Try and get SSD. Maybe cheap ~500GB SSD instead of the HDD at all. Should be able to get a 500GB one around 60-75 bong.
Your PSU also seems expensive, especially for one that doesn't look to be modular.
Not really, no. There's some 5 year old games that 4threads aren't enough in and it'll stutter, especially with the low IPC of Sandy/Ivy. 4790k is the minimum you want, but a 2600k or 3770k are still decent enough overclocked except for the power consumption.
Jace Robinson
I've got an H100i V2 so I'm doing just fine I'm holding out until Zen 2 though
Benjamin Murphy
that doesnt really answer any question
Levi Turner
what's a decent graphics card for this set up? my boyfriend is using a 660ti
don't buy bottom of the barrel chinkshit if you're seriously concerned about quality, seagate and wd make enclosures as well
Jose Myers
I mostly use my PC just for playing FF14 Stormblood and web browsing with a ton of tabs. I was able to get a i5 2500k and Asus p8z68v lx in full working condition for a steal price ($80) and it seems much better than my decade old outdated shit (phenom II X4 955+m4a79xtd evo Mobo). I'll be pairing it with a overclocked XFX RX 460 4GB, 8GB DDR3 1600mhz, and 500w PSU from my previous system. I know it's not the best but I'm hoping its pretty decent for a super budget system.
Josiah Bell
Good time to buy a GPU, or are things still a mess?
Nathan Morales
1070 or 1080 1080ti would bottleneck to /some/ degree but nothing disgusting
