To those of you that were interested in Unity 8, and are a bit bored, run a VM and have a bit of fun with it, since it's working again, after Mir got most of it's dependencies either translated or turned into Wayland ones, and has started bug testing and active development again(lots of bugs atm, so bug reporting would help them).
It now works on Ubuntu 18.04 and Xenial, and someone is packaging it for Arch.
Well that absolves it of all guilt! Clearly phone-line UIs are only bad because they resemble phones.
Wyatt Ross
Because it IS phone UI. It is alternative to Android botnet and iOS shit.
Isaac Perez
Not the biggest fan of Unity but it's better than the crap default ubuntu has now.
Brandon Cruz
Clad you could make it, Uther.

They should continue on Unity 7. Keep the colour scheme, just improve resource usage and feature. Maybe flatten out the look since "material design" is hot right now. (Basically what they did with their GNOME DE, but keep Unity.) But this solid black redesign is a mess.
Unity(7) is a major pull factor for newbies because it is refined and looks professional.
Christopher Wilson
>Maybe flatten out the look since "material design" is hot right now no fuck off with you flat meme shit

>They should continue on Unity 7. There's already a Unity 7 port and distro for 18.04. Kinda moribund, though. >Keep the colour scheme, just improve resource usage and feature. They were already saying they were moving from it, anyway, since it was based on old tech that had fallen from favour(Compiz, old Gtk and gnome components, X, etc.), that was difficult to optimize and add new features to. >But this solid black redesign is a mess. I think making it grey, or making it transparent/almost transparent(think android/gnome top bar), shouldn't be that hard, even for the new Unity.
