there's this thing called "electricity", and it's nice to 1) not pay a higher bill and 2) use less overall for the benefit of everyone else and the environment. why do you care anyhow? you're not using it.

Yeah, but there is also that theory that, turning something off and then on again, requires a higher spike of energy to start it up (be it a computer, a motorbike, etc), and technically, that effort of having to start and get "hot" again, reduces more the lifespan than actually having it continuously running.
btw I turn off my PC every night anyway to save electricity of course, it isn't cheap.
