kill yourself retard

normie detected. But hey you can play games and download porn so you're a tech expert right?

i can do fizzbuzz better than a professional front-end developer

Your post is too cringeworthy and underage b&.
But a good tech guy is someone who contributes to society using tech skills, doesn't matter if he's writing php and javascript on a Macbook Pro.

you're cringy as fuck lol. unless you're running enterprise tier servers you don't need to "harden" your system
and "building" your own "arch" system?
you ran a few simple commands from install.txt and some extra shit

you're a retard
you've never done LFS
you've never set any gentoo flags nor built your own kernel
you've never messed around with integrated devices
you've never written your own drivers for obsolete hardware
you've never done anything beyond gloating

this image is you
fuck off

God I hate a fucking summer.

>Build arch system
You can read a step by step instruction wiki, this is highest levels of skills

If you truly had skills you wouldn't even have a monitor

Again following an instruction book

More instructions followed
>ditched all botnets
Except your phone of course amirite

nah my phone runs copperheadOS. No botnet there. Compiled it myself
had to set a lot of flags actually.
Have you tried using arch? They don't tell you shit. Everyone's situation is different. Yeah they try to make the install as seamless as possible but you're still building a system from scratch.
I'm not saying it's super tough or some shit, but it's on a whole other level than the rest of the world.

man op what os do you use? i could never do that

>installing arch is hard
Yeah, typing commands verbatim from the arch wiki then typing "sudo pacman -S i3wm" sure is hard

I don't really run games much at all, but it does speak to its performance. And there isn't much of an instruction process for it. You have some tips and a very brief rough overview of the process. But the process is completely different for everyone, very hardware dependent, and that's kinda it. You're basically stuck reading forum posts of things other people have done that "might" work, and you really have to learn a bit about how it all works if you want to actually get it working.

And again, sure it's not uber greybeard shit, but c'mon, you think Ubuntu faggots can pull that off? The forums literally tell you what commands to run.

>prove you're not just another """tech guy""" larper, who doesn't actually have any skills at all
I have a job

>implying it's a plant

>i installed arch according to the wiki, pls giv me attention
>i hate myself and don't understand the value of convenience
>I compiled the hardened kernel available to everyone
>I can into gpu passthrough in 2018 on my windows VM
>I use a windows VM, and play games, but trust me, I don't fall for the botnet!

> The forums literally tell you what commands to run.
>arch wiki
kek

all of those things can be done by mindlessly copy and pasting commands from some tutorial.

to prove that you aren't a larper, i think it would be more effective to show something unique you have made that can't be done from just following a simple tutorial.

>reading on-screen instructions
>worth bragging about
huh...so this is the power of American education

regardless of the ease of installing arch, op is ahead of the curve when you realize most people are exclusively using the latest version of windows.

however, how is OP playing windows games in a vm without a desktop environment?

Hi Nef.

>arch

Attached: you.jpg (1200x943, 124K)

>installed xubuntu + i3 and have an i3 session for normal use and an xfce session for everything else
>use vim, mutt, and other cli/tui/ncurses tools for my normal activities and the occasional X application when I need to do something out of the ordinary and don't feel like reading man pages to figure out how to do a task that takes 30 seconds once a week in a gui
>i use whatever sane defaults my DE sets, use an offline password manager, and do all my ssh logins with key-based auth only. no need to worry myself about stopping anything other than a specific attack against me specifically, which no one wants to do anyway because i'm not a skiddy larping on irc and pissing people off
>Set up a regular fucking vm with windows and office since my colleagues sometimes send me .docx or .xls files with retarded macros that i don't feel like fixing for libreoffice or running through pandoc. no need for pci passthrough because i don't play games and cuda works better on linux anyways
>ditched all botnets entirely except the ones that literally don't affect me other than some targeted ads which get blocked anyway

i3 didn't work out of the box for me. Had to make some changes. Had to install X before that, which also didn't work out of the box, had to make a lot of changes, got it running correctly as a normal user (ie not root). Before that? Got 10 partitions set up, with all the proper security flags. Had to do a lot of research to get that right. Don't get me wrong, you can just throw together a system that's shit, fast track yourself to GNOME, and function without ever learning shit. But I actually took the time to get everything set up properly.

And man I don't know what you've read but there are no verbatim commands on the arch wiki. Everyone's setup is different.

>you're cringy as fuck lol. unless you're running enterprise tier servers you don't need to "harden" your system
really? Are you stupid? Hardening is something everyone should do. Sounds like security-dumb justification to me. Do you not lock your doors either? Just take off the door locks entirely? I mean, what's the point right it's an inconvenience. There's no need for all that security right?
I did not compile some hardened kernel. Do you even understand what hardening is? apparently not. It's not just some install and walk away shit, you have to design security into your system, from the ground up. Because the alternative is fucking retarded.

the only thing on my windows VM is very specific applications, and it's all I run. Yeah it's de-botnet.
everyone's setup is different so no.
As I've said here Getting PCI passthrough with QEMU+KVM via OVMF is actually something unique. Every setup is completely different because the process varies based on your hardware. And I wasn't able to buy some already known working build - I had to make due with what I have. Had to flash a rom on my GPU so that it could support UEFI, for example.

>you have to design security into your system, from the ground up
so why did you even bother installing arch and not your own scratch linux?

True you have to figure out some shit, but what you really should do since you don't have a GUI is

>install emacs
>run brief tutorial
>edit init.el and paste: (add-to-list 'package-archives '("melpa-stable" ."stable.melpa.org/packages/") t)
>restart
>M-x package-install sicp
>open and read on left hand screen, run Scheme interpreter on the right
>do all the exercises
>come back here and shitpost

I finished all of the exercises is K&R

Everything you have except Gentoo and no windows VM because I don't have the money to buy another 1080ti to passthrough to windows. I game on Linux though, DXVK and WINE are finally stable enough to get 60 stable FPS on all triple A windows games. If a game doesn't work i'll just patch WINE to make it work. :^)

Op here, Desktop environments are for fucks. It's literally a package of pre-installed software which goes entirely against the point of a custom system, imo. I'm going to pick each application on my system carefully.

As to how I got it set up, you can get it running directly off X I believe, but I went ahead and set up I3. It's incredibly lightweight and configurable.

>>everyone's setup is different
>instead of makingTHREE partitions for /, /boot, and /swap, I made TEN for /, /boot, /swap, /home, /var, /etc, /bin, /lib, /lib32, and /opt
>i had to type the command TEN times and change a word and parition size each time!

>i had to type sudo pacman -S xorg to installl all the X group packages!

I installed Windows via bootable USB

post github/gitlab faggot

So what dude, I've installed Arch literally tens of times. Hell, I've even used Gentoo and LFS for some time and I am an absolute retard so that doesn't mean much. Unless this is bait, in that case, good job.

that's pretty solid. The wine patching bit seems insane though considering the difficulty of getting that to actually work. Like I understanding getting it to "work" but I want that stability perfection. As for another GPU - I mean you could just grab a $40 card. I doubt you'll need to be able to run graphics intensive applications on the host and guest simultaneously. But, I've actually seen a large amount of people who've managed to pass their host GPU over, leaving them without a display on their host, which is madness but they're pulling it off.

I don't think I could handle having a 1080ti and not using the native driver for it on windows. You're losing so much of it's power. The linux driver is just fucking shit.

If you think anyone cares you were able to run cfdisk and pacstrap you're the one who's larping.

any good, truly hardened setup, should have at least 8 partitions. You use the different partitions for sandboxing. For example, /var/'s size needs to be limited because it's vulnerable to disk space exhaustion. /var/log needs to be treated specially because it's so frequently targeted. /home can benefit highly from the noexec flag. Almost all of them have nodev, nosuid, noexec.

/tmp is another case of this. To quote a security researcher "there's no good reason why tmp should be able to run executables. None."

so yeah, you basically pointed out to me that you don't know shit. Congrats.

No I didn't run either of those and don't know what they are.
key word was '90%' - because remember, you're in competition with people who think installing Ubuntu is some great accomplishment.

>Dude I know how to edit fstab I'm such a genius

the key is not that I just edited it, but that I actually took the time to research and plan out a system. Apparently you're a security embarassment. Congratulations, you're creating jobs for aspiring cybersecurity professionals everywhere. Keep doing computer stuff man

>bought a good thinkpad
>Installed gentoo, configured kernel

I don't remember signing up for a competition. What's the prize? Replies to your bait thread on a shitty image board?

>No I didn't run [pacstrap] and don't know what [pacstrap is].
You're so full of shit it's hillarious.

i can make really good bait threads that get a lot of yous

>nah my phone runs copperheadOS. No botnet there.
Phone botnets are in the baseband

you just listed every flag (except for noexec on home, which is retarded for various reasons) that my preferred distro sets for the default "wipe my disk and install X" option in the GUI installer. congrats, lmfao

>using different partitions for sandboxing
wow, you're actually retarded

>i'm hardcore because i installed arch

I've heard of it. I think I saw it somewhere on the wiki mentioned, alongside all the other shit the autists have made that completely violates the arch philosophy.

Sorry I was too busy building my system from scratch - and using some kind of base install would have just made more time for me anyway. I had quite a bit to set up even at the lower levels.
noexec on home isn't retarded, it depends on what you're doing. You're acting like security decisions can be made without any reference to the system's function. Which means you're fucking retarded.

>Literally just man fstab and man mount.
Great research dude

melpa looks cool but I'm supposed to ditch emacs. The HURRR VI IS BETTER people are actually hurting my career now.
"Ew you use emacs. What, do you use it to check your email? Did you know that every application keeps expanding its features until it can check your email? Hahah that's a funny joke right?"

>wants to avoid running stuff as root
>also wants to install literally every python package you ever use to /lib/pythonXX

what if ur pip is compromized dude. you're over here typing sudo pip all the time like a fucking moron whereas i'm 100% safe and typing pip install --user

that tells you how to run commands, but not what commands to run. You sound like you belong on Ubuntu, have you tried using it? Although a lot of people just stick to windows or mac, and I understand that.

I'm employed

eh. I mean we're basically talking about preventing attribution, and that's pretty hard these days. But, running CopperheadOS is a really big start. Your phone is completely FOSS software. No data/location reporting. You get the idea. For secure comms you can use Silence, GnuPG, Tor... it can be done.

The baseband is like the intel management engine, it can do literally anything and runs its own OS. It cannot ever be trusted.

And you sound like you belong in a gas chamber, but who am I to say.
These are all me so that you know. But don't worry, I've been saging.

Feels good, right?

>you've never built your own kernel

This is professional tier stuff, much beyond "tech guy" larper tier
Most linux users dont even debloat their kernel

I'm not even professional
I just like to fuck around with things and see how it works - then get bored, and hop onto another pointless project in my pointless life joy emoji gun emoji haha xdd

>Built my own arch system
Not very impressive.

Who gives a fuck

>Set up a high performance windows VM that can run anything, even games. Only things that go on it are those specific applications, and nothing else.
Literal children do this.

Impossible.

Can a front-end developer (professional or not) even do fizzbuzz?

But do you have a job as a programmer? If not you are just an autistic worthless nerd.

I administer and secure sendmail for a large corporation for more than five years. I've earned the greybeard status.

it's okay user if I didn't want to talk to wastes of space rejects like you I wouldn't be making threads in the first place. People like you make me feel good about myself to be honest.
they hire anyone these days
maybe, but I'm sure you're aware that these things don't necessarily mean you're good at shit anymore.
my waifu is better.

Also OH SHIT I didn't know who she was and looked her up. Man I fucking loved Madoka Magicka. Guessing that spin off is worth a read huh.

Attached: anime_steinsgate_eternalwaifu.jpg (1920x1080, 1.45M)

also jesus christ that's a wonderful hentai system. Have you considered making it open source and set it up so people can contribute? I don't think there's any software like that that I've heard of. And the overlap between computer scientists and hentai lovers means you'd probably get a lot of help (like from me)

you are a fucking larper

>not using drracket and SICP package
lol ok

Wow OP, you're so amazing, nobody here ever uses arch or understands linux like you do! You even set up a high performance windows VM that can run anything! You're such a techie and I'm glad you're a part of the Jow Forums family.

This whole industry is a meme. Once you get good enough they pay you ridiculous amount of money for this fucking crap and it would be insane to do something else. You just pay for it with your soul. Even the actually smart ones with physics or math PhDs are doing goddamn JS in an ad company.

>it's okay user if I didn't want to talk to wastes of space rejects like you I wouldn't be making threads in the first place. People like you make me feel good about myself to be honest.

>my waifu is better.
>Unironically using the term "waifu"
It's almost as if you're just an autist who thinks it is cool to setup a tiling window manager with an anime wallpaper.
Get back to me when you've setup your own email server or when you start using a Thinkpad running libreboot.

>I don’t play video games

one time i reset the office router

This, after going to linux i haven't turned back to gayming and i'm happy.

listen champ. i installed gentoo. understand what that means in that tiny fuckin brain of yours? yeah oh you installed arch tough luck buddy but can you install gentoo without a guide? yeahahha touf luck you shi thead. fuck you

Was it not available from the engineering faculty? I don't know how it works in the US, but would you still be qualified for "engineering" jobs that need accreditation? You're still doing pretty good though

>I'm not a lazy fuck who just runs everything in root because I suck at computer science
I'm sorry op but ricing arch has nothing to do with computer science.

>ditched all bones entirely
So you your CPU is Intel me free? And you only use open source software? Even if you stated that you use windows on a vm.

please don't feed this attention whoring kid
good lord it's so evident when summer comes to the northern hemisphere

Different states do it differently. For NY the bachelors is a B.E. but there's no Master's of Engineering.
To become a 'Professionally Licensed Engineer' you need to take a Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and a Professional Engineers exam. But you generally don't do those until you've got a few years of experience, if you bother with them at all; as it really just gives you the ability to put your name on things for liability and more money.

Is this thread for real jesus christ

Attached: 1520096934511.jpg (306x331, 69K)

Why? Stuff like this is what makes coming to Jow Forums worth it.

Obviously not
i hope...

How'd you set up your VM?

It can only be compromised of I run python2, I use python3 and node npm packages exclusively.

Nice try Kurisu, keep your nose in neuroscience and stay out of technology

i've got nothing to prove to you, fucker. this is an anonymous image board, i can just say i sautered my own board and made my own OS for it. you're the LARPer here

Holy shit, this is the worst thread on Jow Forums right now. I would take Intel vs. AMD wojaks and SJW posting over this thread.
This thread is why arch fags get such a bad rep. This thread is an amazing example of the arch user comics. Holy. Shit.
