2007 or so.

Last month

The other day I burned a Mountain Lion DMG to save my Mac mini without internet recovery in the firmware. Got it now though.

...Burn? ...Disc?

Attached: 1503281015772.jpg (500x451, 38K)

2 years ago, had to update bios on an old sony HTPC and would only accept it from the internal disc tray.

previous to that, over 7 years ago

I never owned writable disks.

>tfw you will never give out 'game' CDs at Halloween ever again

Probably ~8 years ago. Burned some software on a disk (I can't remember the name of it) that would allow you to bypass the password login in Win7.

Had a friend with a mother that would set a password on his PC and not let him use it (despite him buying it with his own money iirc). Handed out those disks for people in that situation all the time in high school.

Also I used to burn copies of Garry's Mod for people.

This gives me a comfy feeling.

Last month to make a arch dvd

literally a couple of months ago, having a cd ready in my car is good when the usb cable to my phone inevitably flakes out

I like optical media

Last time I remember burning a disc was about 2005, I recorded an episode of mythbusters with a tv tuner and put it on a dvd to bring it into school because the class was doing an event where they took a TV into the room and they'd show whatever the students came up with during lunch.

what was the halloween game?

My local rental shop has BDs, so I copy them quite often.

I use them to make bootable distro DVDs all the time.

...disc?

Why haven't blurays come down in price yet like DVDs and CDs? I like optical media but it's not very efficient in GB/$ compared to hard drives anymore. Why bother burning movies or games when you can just buy another hard drive? The only use blurays have now are M-Disc archival discs, and they're expensive.

It was touhou 6 or something supposedly. Or porn.

I still burn music CDs. I usually use flash drives to install gnoo/linucks nowadays.

about two weeks ago when I got new thinkpad

A few years ago when I was using a shitty old Dell for a couple months that wouldn't let me boot from USB. Had to install Manjaro on it, it came with heavily infected Windows XP.

it stopped being a mass-market thing with huge volumes. In like 2003 burning CDs was something that everyone did, and the economies of scale pushed down the price of both the discs and the drives.

Last Saturday, needed some dban discs to wipe all the computers at work
Had to borrow mom's laptop because none of my rigs have optical drives installed

It's actually fucking terrifying to anyone not autistic
He'd be better received trying to give children hypodermic needles

I bought an album and it arrived blank. The artist was nice enough to provide me with the wavs and I want to burn them on there, but is there anything in particular I should do when burning? I'm just remembering burning Windows ISOs back in the day. Would it be best to burn them at a lower speed or some shit too? Or does it not matter since they're just audio files?

I completely forgot this happened. Thank you user.

What?

It was just a harmless /jp/ user. Nothing to worry about.

Eh I still do this every now and then. My company has strict no thumbdrive policy and if you need to get the data, you have to burn them to CD (yes a fucking CD)

Also, the lab technician is being a literal jew since we need to purchase CD from him ("to prevent viruses" he said and he's the one with the keys to tower lock) and he sold it for $2.00 a pop

>purchase your own writeable CDs to bring to work
>"No no you can't do that, you need to buy these special virus-free CDs"
>"Aren't all writeable CDs free of fucking everything when you first purchase them?"
>"No shut the fuck up buy my shit"

A few weeks ago

I somewhat regularly play blurays on my PC as well.

A couple of days ago I burned some photos in my mothers graduation (she is a teacher)

a week ago, have a modchipped ps2 from early 2000s

Last Sunday

Yesterday, it was a Win 8.1

>usb sticks are bad and you should feel bad
>proceeds to plug in usb mouse/kb everywhere
what did that lab jew mean by this?

also, it's figurative.
into the oven you go

I have to go buy some blank CDs to burn for my gf since she doesn't have an aux jack in her car.

5 years ago for my Wii and PS2

Last week

3 days ago to install ubuntu 18.04. found it more convenient to make a boot disk and stick it in my old macbook than googling how to boot from usb

Just the other day when I made a new Win 7 disc. Probably gonna burn Mint to a disc as well.

Sisters and I made Dad a CD from a bunch of random songs he liked a few years back to play in his car.

Yesterday. Only reliable archival media.

Can't trust mag disks forever, FLASH, or anything with active electronic components.

Optical disks are quite simply our most highly evolved end-user recording system to date, surpassing all other media except special tape systems.

If you don't have files you'd like to keep for a lifetime, perhaps you can get by without an optical drive.

But I wouldn't want to be without one.

funnily enough about 5 years and then 3 this week

ubuntu PPC for a powerbook aluminium G4 which is the only way unless you wanna fuck with open firmware and 2 conspiracy filled DVD for some old guys at work

>Medical
>Caduceus instead of Rod of Asclepius

A few months ago, I copied my friend's Neon Genesis Evangelion: Perfect Collection bootleg DVDs.

This.

The only other reliable options are botnetted cloud storage or professional grade tape drives.

Attached: 1384648822209.jpg (572x507, 172K)

CDs arent invulnerable to the elements and bit enthropy you know

I still have my own Perfect Collection DVDs among other Evangelion DVDs and Blu-rays but I wanted to copy them because I wanted to give them to my niece.

Shit.
Are you me? I also copied bootleg Evangelion Perfect Collection DVDs from a friend.
Because I didn't have Evangelion on DVD.

I also burned a Collector's Edition CD of Carly Rae Jepsen's E-MO-TION to give to my girlfriend.

I think I also burned some Suikoden PS1 CDs as well and the last two seasons of New Girl of XviD AVI DVDs.

quite well known in retro gaming communities that optical media is not reliable.

all the time for old people

does bd-r count?

My car is too old to have Bluetooth or a line in port and too new to have a cassette player so I burn CDs so I don't have to listen to the radio

>rental shop

The absolute state of this board.

Tonight.

I have an older car that has a 6-disc changer and no USB port so the best sounding music in it is still either bought or burned discs. Luckily I kept all my old CD's I bought over the years, though I have them all in MP3 form now.

like 2 years ago making shitty lofi mixtapes

He said disc, so it counts.

Get one of these, user.

>hey kid, wanna earn a whole bunch of halloween games?

Yesterday

Half a year ago to burn Persona 3 FES for the PS2

Last week to burn Debian.

1 week ago, I still use them for my car

Uh no. Prolly if you got stuff meant for high end album back in the 90s/early 00s but since then every manufacturers have cheapened out on material.

You'd be lucky if your burned duscs lasts for 5 years

Also, if you want to archive something for mullions of years, consider 4D engraving discs

2012

You really don't know as much as you think you do.

Look up "Mitsui." Still around.

Your five year meme is BS regardless of brand, anyway.

Your face is BS

Probably about 3 Months ago. For Uni, my Prof wanted to go through all the homework we've done so far and I didn't wanted to waste a flash drive because I exactly knew I wouldn't see it ever again

fucking generation Z
I've burned a DVD for long-term backups yesterday

A week ago, have a few of them with me rn.

a couple weeks ago, i burn backups of my business vps and data to dvd's for offsite storage, as a last resort
not a whole lot of data, but very important

>long-term
Ten-twenty years max.

Handing in assignments in uni have often had the requirement that we gave a digital copy.
I have often used a dvd or cd as a fuck you to those people who made the rule fully aware that nobody can read the content.

Last week. Sneakernet purposes.

1 week ago, when we needed to present a project

like burned onto a disc to make a music cd? 2013

use a cd/dvd to install windows all the time though, in fact, i just got around to finally upgrading my dvd drive to a blu ray drive! 50$ internal Asus blu ray, did i get ripped off? shit i remember when the cheapest blu ray player was a freaking ps3 lol

5yrs ago.

>DICOM compliant DVD
the fuck would that even mean? colors are better on certain DVDs?
that's solidly in audiophool territory

a couple months ago

>burned
You mean "recorded".

Right? He should stream bitrate starved and drm infested shit shows from netflix.

no, he means "burned"

Today. For MorphOS 3.11.

Two weeks ago, my old 'Shitcedes ML320 uses a tape player in the front and the CD player in the back, no aux and I haven't gone overboard to get a new head unit for bluetooth, and I never will.

Love my fancy/shit box

Attached: ml320_cargo.jpg (800x600, 120K)

Few weeks ago. had to install an OS to a shitbox which has extremely buggy USB boot (somehow not even the PloP boot manager works properly).

This, there's a media button that does absolutely nothing so I have to use CDs. I also use it to give friends copies of albums without worrying about "cloud" storage. Also burned one with plop bootoader and ipxe to circumvent weird BIOSes.

Yesterday. When I burned an Arch Linux ISO to a DVD-R.

A few weeks ago I had to burn a Linux iso to a CD to try and rescue an old notebook that would refuse to boot from USB for some reason.

Ten minutes ago for a Debian 68k installer.

Im burning something right now

Literally last week. Winblows nuked it's own boot partition somehow. It hardly works even as a gayming os.
