at least you got interesting pop music
youtube.com/watch?v=fs9XYB8LKlI

gross ofc, isn't that how you're supposed to say your salary?

ofc. sorry.

but there are countries where you have 50% income tax, and others where you have like 2%.

I'm from Italy(near Venice) my rent is 350 euro a month and all the bills and grocery shopping is about 300 euro so I still have almost 2000 every month.

True, my net is about 2150€ IIRC

I hate my job and I can't leave it for another 4 years. I have to waste 2 years on prerequisites for college, then another 2 years just to learn the basics of programming and then I'll be a "bachelor". Then I'll be able to start with the lowest tier of a programmer.

This system is so screwed up.

This system is so screwed up.

too many people are agreeing to shit like paragraph 2

y u do this. you're not their slave.

you're like the nigger from inglorious bastards, right?

ouch... progressive taxes are a bitch, no incentive to really get your salary raised.

Is 700k NOK considered to be a high salary (I'm assuming you'll be living & working in Norway)? Is that net or gross?

$87k USD for a competent PhD is an absolute joke. You should have laughed at that $120k offer for Austin.

I have an MS in mechanical engineering w/ 1 year experience and I make $90k gross working outside of Boston.

That's pretty good for a British 21 year old

I've determined the only way to "win" in euroland is to work only part time.

Why the fuck would you ever say gross salary unless you are the employer?
How would anyone know how much money you actually earn if you don't put your exact location to calculate the tax?

I thinking of moving to Canada or America or becoming a freelancer.

OK, let me get this straight:
I'm not from Italy, but AFAIK you start studying with 19. Now B.S. in CS is usually 3 years, you you're 22 when you fresh out of university.

How the hell do you have 2 years experience already?

"In Italy (...) you have about 2610€ per month. Now you have to deduct taxes (about 1/3 of the salary), so you’ll have about 1723€ per month."

>payscale.com/research/IT/Job=Software_Developer/Salary

"Salary €15,739 - €36,431"

You would be earning about:
2300 * 12 = 27.600 (annual payment)
27.600 * (3/2) = 41.400 (earning before taxes)

That's more than the maximum salary according to serveral websites.

jesus the pound is shit right now

how will brexit affect you, do you think?

I'm it probably won't
judging by how our government is handling brexit (i.e probably staying in the customs union for some retarded reason), it's likely that nothing will change for the majority of people.

>20 minutes outside of london so I picked that
apart from rent it's probably gonna be similar

we could further complicate the model by asking how much you have left over after rent...

Eh, It'll probably just mean I've got less spending money I don't think it will be catastophic ( for me at least ). Moving back to Scotland in a year anyway so my cost of living will go down

Internships I would assume

>we could further complicate the model by asking how much you have left over after rent...
I think if we replaced the "adjusted net monthly" with "money left after regular expenses" it would actually be less complicated.

Still poor but I didn't really try. And taxes are real low here if you use correct scheme (but no social package)

Get an internship during summer break after 1st or 2nd year, and then continue working there ~24 hours a week during the academic year. They'll make you a junior developer after 6 months at most, if you're not a deadweight. Then either continue working there or just find another part time junior dev job.
At least 3/4 of the students here do something like this and only the laziest ones don't work during the academic year.
I thought that in most countries you were exempt if you were studying. At least that's how it worked in pretty much all ex soviet countries, but I guess not everywhere is the same.

you should be able to afford a nice comfy 150 m2 apt in the city center with that kinda cash, if you wanted to

Why gross? Different countries have different tax rates. Even within one country you can get wildly different numbers. E.g. in Poland, if you work at some big corporation, like 40% of your salary is wasted on taxes, social insurance etc. But if you work at a small company that is willing to use more effective contracts, you can waste only 10-25% (depending on your income etc.).

I fucking hate going to school. Normally $15/hr would be marginally acceptable for what I do at work, but when the school term starts back up, my hours get cut significantly. Presumably, I'll be paid more when I get my degree, but the possibilities of future money doesn't pay the fucking rent.

I just want to work, god dammit.

consider this: when you work less, your hourly wages go up.

Well I just checked and there are some options I can afford but then I would be left with nothing to eat even lmao. Those indexes don't really work for me. If I actually tried I could improve my standing but there's no point because I'm fat sick lone virgin and will probably die in 30s anyway.

I'm too old for this shit. It's no longer appealing. I would join when I was a kid though. I play games but I understand perfectly that I will have more fun from watching compilations on youtube than spending hours in vr waiting for someone to entertain me (which will probably never happen anyway).
Also I have terrible pronunciation because I never practiced my spoken english and I can't tolerate locals so local servers aren't an option either.

Didn't bother listing them all. How the fuck do you make so much? I have 2.5 years working experience and barely make 1000€/month net, 8 hours, or about 1500€/month gross. What am I doing wrong? General software dev, anything from desktop apps to corporate shit to web dev, depending on the project.
