I would guess it's mostly connecting to sockets that is taking time, if he made it multithreaded or asynchronous he could probably speed it up to where his internet speed would be the throttle with just python

i'm guessing they go crying to the reddit staff after a few hours and then it becomes significantly harder.
Also it might be hard to get that many accounts in the first place.
