So I've got an external hard drive that I found in the trash. I live in an apartment complex with a bunch of college-age women, so thought I'd check to see if there is anything interesting on it. I'll share if I come across something good.

I've plugged it in via usb and the two volumes are not visible in windows explorer. However, they show up in disk manager as "disk1" (pic related). How can I get Windows to let me open these partitions and view the files?

give it back tyrese

cant you just google this shit and go away? but if you find nudes pls share

I've tried Googling. All I can find is tutorials on how to reformat the drive, which will erase all the data.

holy shit just mount the two primary partitions faggot

Not until I get all those sweet, sweet nudes

how?

It's probably not NTFS. Use gparted or something to find out what filesystem it is.

>boot into ubuntu livecd
>open file manager
>click hard drives
that's all you have to do. that and i don't think girls who take nudes know what an external hdd is.

install gentoo

bump

anyone?

Open a virtual box with Ubuntu and try again.

You can try Testdisk and PhotoRec on that drive after mounting and inspecting these partitions, so you can see if there's anything deleted you can recover.

that hard drives was used for a operating system that isn't Windows. You should Google "how to open Linux partition on Windows"

You are brain dead, OP.

Recuva works pretty well

for christ dont you dare change that disk in anyway before backing it up. buy the exact same model / bigger drive and make a disk image on new drive. then start tinkering with it

Absolute state, etc.

>which will erase all the data
the partition is quite weird, filled, unallocated, filled, unallocated. why can be like that?

Another an odd question for me, how can you be so sure, that the harddisk aren't format it before? on the picture you shared, %free (disk 1, partition 1-3) are 100% free, which means that harddisk was format.

as another user has said, you should try recovery-tools, such as recuva, get data back, etc.

>plug it into a windows machine
>which appears to be a real machine
>probably ops main machine
Gee, what bad could probably happen. OP, if you ever get a job (lol…), your supervisors will love you, when you save the company precious money by always using random USB keys you find on the parking lot.

Consider the possibility of the drive being broken. Why would someone trash it otherwise?

You format it beforehand so Windows can understand it. Don't worry the data should be fine. You have to do it through cmd though.
Launch cmd, use diskpart, select disk 1, clean, convert gpt, then recreate the partitions. It's a windows security feature workaround

this. Worked for me.

>college aged women
>not thinking about maybe they own a macbook and initialized their shit in ext4 or apfs or hfs+
>plugged in to a windows pc
hurr why doesn't work hurr

Have you assigned a drive letter? Right click the partition, assign letter or some shit

Report back

Hi

i bet my ass its hfs+, i'd try transmac, probably a time machine disk

Install gentoo
Mount

>mount

Mount what, user? A.. are you being lewd?
