Overclocking
>Use PBO on Ryzen. Legacy overclocking is defunct on Ryzen 2#00X CPUs. youtube.com/watch?v=FC3fsVk9Sss

CPUs
>R3 2200G - Bare minimum gaming (dGPU optional)
>R5 2400G - Consider IF on sale
>R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs
>i7-8700K - Best for 1080p gaming, but most expensive when factoring in delid, high-end cooler, etc.
>R7 2700/X - Best high-end gaming/mixed usage on a non-HEDT platform
>Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT

Motherboards
>Only Z300 series boards can utilize fast memory with Intel

RAM
>8GB - Enough for most gaming use
>16GB - Standard for heavy use
>32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this much
>Current CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal

Graphics cards
>GPU prices have gone down

Storage
>Consider StoreMi
>Consider getting a larger SSD (better GB/$) instead of small SSD & large HDD

1440p vs 144hz? Outside of a 1080ti there's not really a card that can do both is there? Not really looking to buy one of those unless it's $600 (unlikely I know) since it's fairly old at this point.

The lowest power consumption cpu and motherboard without too much of performance loss? Including stuff like diy nuc kits or pico-itx with soldered cpus.

Is the ASRock X370 Taichi a good board for overclocking?

I'm trying to find a board I'm happy with that's good with overclocking, to replace my shitty B350 Gigabyte motherboard, since it's not gonna cut it with overclocking my Ryzen 7 1700 to 4.0Ghz.

Stay mad nvidiots

Most memory manufacturers have transferrable lifetime warranties afaik. If that's how gskill's warranty works, I'd see no reason not to get em.

Nah man I'm good, I got both of your points tho, thanks.

>Is the ASRock X370 Taichi a good board for overclocking?
Top hardware but disgusting BIOS, Asus Hero is better.

Try ryzen 2200 and whatever is the cheapest motherboard.
Don't know what you want though

Is warranty transferable?
Then yes.
If not, you better make damned sure it works before buying it.

Yes, it's okay. Why not get the X470, though?

Are they still current issues? Then yes, post them.
I had a good deal of issues over the years with my 7970, as well. But now days the issues pale compared to Nvidia ones. Nvidia's on forum and leddit will tell you that AMD drivers are far better the past year or two.

the shit was epic, we should thank you

Getting one of these in tomorrow: 120GB SSD for $25.
Any tests you'd like seen run on it?

I honestly don't know what to make of this, it's not officially transferable but I don't think I need proof of purchase to RMA it, just the serial number.

I tried to lower the price to 165€, he wouldn't budge. I'm gonna try to push it down to 170€ but I don't want to test his patience, Germans aren't very flexible when it comes to these things.

An RX 580 used to be $199.

I wanted to get an rx 580 but seeing how the average asking price was 100€ over MSRP I caved in and bought a weaker but more silent GPU at about 40€ more than MSRP.

>An RX 580 used to be $199.
And it was +$500 last year this time. Trust me its down
Well it says professional on it so clearly it must be the best

They've gone down since January

I'll keep using the same Mobo. Is there any significant performance difference with a 2600/2600x between a 3200mhz 16gb kit and a 3200mhz 16gb b-die kit? I know fuck all about overcloking and although my board does support it, I ended up with having to reset the BIOS after my 1st try.

Attached: prettylights.png (1000x860, 1.74M)

Says it's MLC and the user Crystaldiskmarks are the same as my PNY Optima.

So wait, are B450 mobos already out?

>I tried to lower the price to 165€, he wouldn't budge. I'm gonna try to push it down to 170€ but I don't want to test his patience, Germans aren't very flexible when it comes to these things.
Tell him your a Jew and that he needs to pay up reparation
Your looking to save $30 so he'd believe it over a new product

Heh, speaking of no brand SSDs I just got one from Japan, a friend is bringing it.
It's CFD and I believe the cells are from Toshiba, with a Phison S10 controller.

b450 boards when

In some games you might get a 10% increase in performance with some tweaking, otherwise not much. You really need to at least use ryzen dram calculator or the stilt's timings to get the significant improvements, the difference in XMP timings alone isn't big.

>Says it's MLC and the user Crystaldiskmarks are the same as my PNY Optima.
Its a literal "WHO!!??" Brand. I would trust them with my toe nail clippings

They are down compared to how they were $400+ for like a year.
The prices now are somewhat reasonable. They were really low for the performance you got at MSRP, really.
$170 MSRP of the RX570 got you a card that'd play almost every new AAA game at 60fps 1080p on high or maxed settings. GDDR5 was cheap at the time and that was like the best time to buy a new GPU in a long time.

Now... the prices are decent considering that the manufacturers are paying like another $25 per 4GB of GDDR5. Can't expect much better.

>difference with a 2600/2600x between a 3200mhz 16gb kit and a 3200mhz 16gb b-die kit
This was already gone over many times in the last thread.

Really have no idea.
Can barely find details on Team Group L5 as well, but seems like a more reliable choice at least.
I wouldn't be surprised if they just took random 5 year old SSDs, gutted them, and put them in new cases.

>inb4
You're already late for the next 10 threads.

>In some games you might get a 10% increase in performance with some tweaking
I guess it's settled then. I'm not that into tweaking system settings and testing performance afterwards, so I'll just get a standard 3200mhz 16gb kit then. If things don't work out I'm sure I could just download more ram.

>This was already gone over many times in the last thread.
Can I get a quick rundown?
I'm pretty sure you like posting about this stuff.

i don't know because i haven't had it for a year and a half. amd drivers was the reason i moved to nvidia. the drivers seem to break by the release. my experience with nvidia up till this point has been excellent. no issues whatsoever.

Not sure why you are going with ryzen if you're not getting b-die. There are better alternatives in that case.

>just spend some money on a new Mobo bro.
Yeah, I'm not doing that, mate.

are there any better alternatives for an am4 socket?

You can copy the same timings off this pic, you'd just have to manually enter them in.

>just ordered my parts totaling around 1k

ill feel better when i get to play my vidya r-right?

>realize modern games are crap

Now post that without b-die and overclocking that he wont be doing

Hey Jow Forums should I buy faster ram if it's 60 dollars more expensive. 3000mhz 16-18-18-38 versus 3200mhz 14-14-14-31 both 16gb

which CPU?

ryzen 1700 with x470 board

so 1060 windforce from gigabyte is bad?

I just want to play my vidya in peace without worrying that my current amd CPU performs slightly worse than some intel CPU of the same price category. I really don't enjoy all of the autistic shilltel and ayymd shitposting and just want to have competitive performance relative to the general price.

Given how expensive RAM is, may as well pay a bit more for the best. Especially considering you may have it for a decade or close to it, and may upgrade CPU while keeping the same RAM. It benefits all CPUs, but especially so for Ryzen.

You'll appreciate being able to have 40 porn tabs running at once, at least, I guess.

There should be a 3466 CL14 one.

On my C6H the preset for 3466 is C15.

Yes. Loud. Shit cooler. Designed to die in a few years.

I know 3466 CL14 is possible with B-die. Maybe not at 1.4v? Or maybe it requires some extra luck.

2600X with just some general 3000 CL15 or 3200 CL16 RAM is going to outperform the 8400, still. It's just that b-die will give you even more.

What is the best non asus motherboard for the 2600x? I wont be doing heavy overclocking, and i don't care too much about bells and whistles, just don't want it to be DOA

3000mHz is about the spot where diminishing returns start to kick in but 3200mHz scan still be a noticeable increase over 3000mHz but it'll depend on (1) what you're doing and (2) your motherboard

>2600X with just some general 3000 CL15 or 3200 CL16 RAM is going to outperform the 8400
will this do the job well?
mindfactory.de/product_info.php/16GB-G-Skill-RipJaws-V-schwarz-DDR4-3200-DIMM-CL16-Dual-Kit_1013799.html

>non asus
X470 Gaming Plus

Definitely possible, but it'd take some extra tweaking for sure. I'm basically using the 3466 preset with CL14 primaries but also haven't tried lowering it from 1.48v yet (Trying to stabilize some tighter tertiaries).

Need a PC for VMs / Big Data labs

So far my plan is R7 2700x, X470 mobo, 32 GB RAM ( Fuck the memory prices), re-use my old graphic card as I don't game (GTX 970), 2x 2k 1440p Dell pivot monitors.

Now for PSU, I'm not sure, depends if I'll get a decent graphic card in the near future.

Any suggestion for this build? EU market, price range around 1500 €

I'm not sure how much of a price drop there will be, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could get a cheap TR4 board and threadripper in budget once threadripper 2 is released in a few weeks.

Yes just whatever the cheapest 3000 CL15 or 3200 CL16 is will generally be fine except maybe not on a Gigabyte board which has more memory support problems.

Considering that TR2 will still use X399, I don't see motherboard prices dropping a ton.
1950X were going for like $650, though.

Seems you have way more than enough of a budget. Plan seems fine except yeah, you're going to pay a lot for RAM.

what do you think of the gb x470 aouros gaming with wifi?

are any of the protection plans offered by retailers a good idea? Or should the warranty that comes with the part be enough?

The lower end boards that won't be able to handle the 32C CPUs might get discounted.

Gaming Ultra/Gaming 5 are the same boards basically. Main difference is wifi vs without. Going off of what Buildzoid said they have pretty crappy VRMs and (from personal experience) the BIOS literally makes no sense. Horrible for anything, but the 2600 and below.

Do you realistically think you'll damage your part somehow? Some extended warranties just cover malfunctions past the manufacture's, but some cover accidental damage. I wouldn't buy either personally considering any damage you do is pretty much going to be determined to be your fault.

Unless it's something like a DOA part/breaks early into the purchase. In which case the regular warranty is fine.

Say it with me, EIGHT CORES, SIXTEEN THREADS.

Attached: ryzen_inside.png (976x721, 1.12M)

>not on a Gigabyte board which has more memory support problems.
I specifically checked the ram compatibility and this exact model IS compatiblw with my mobo and pinnacle ridge CPUs
Why is gigabyte so strict with memory compatibility?

>hide SN barcode
>keep SN visible

Say it with me, 3.7 Ghz in 2k18
Say it with me, losing to 8700k in every relevant test

Attached: ayymd BTFO.png (2964x1593, 1.47M)

lrn2focus

>Why is gigabyte so strict with memory compatibility?
Shit BIOS is the only reason.
If the RAM is on the QVL, go if it I guess. But I'd get the ASRock Master board instead. But most Gigabyte boards have poor user reviews due to their memory not working at advertised speed.

Ty for the warranty

Dang. Even underclocked to 4.2GHz down from its 4.35GHz stock while the 8700k is overclocked, it still gets 144fps+ in the same games the 8700k gets 144.
Thanks for unknowingly pointing out that there is no point in the 8700k.

>overwatch
>fortnite

literally stopped reading at that

>only 124 fps average in pubg

my old haswell processor gets higher than that fucking hell

so what mobo that has wifi should i get when i go with r5 2600X and 3200 16gb dual?

Are EVGA G3s really as explained and risky as people claim?

EIGHT CORES
SIXTEEN THREADS!

Attached: 20180710_175313.jpg (3024x4032, 2.5M)

*explosive

>2600X with just some general 3000 CL15 or 3200 CL16 RAM is going to outperform the 8400
How? Don't you get 10-15% perf boost with b-die? And 8400 is behind by 7%? Without a b-die 8400 is now 7% better.

N-N-Nobody will need more than six cores in the future, r-right?

M-M-Multithreading is just a meme guys, right?

Don't be mad when you have to buy a new computer in two years. You did this to yourself :*)

This is one disadvantage of Jow Forums - no way to avoid the idiots.

>not planting a planned supernova device in your shitposting station for a daily chance of involuntary, painless sudoku

Attached: 1530222120908.png (404x471, 67K)

So the 8700K is 2.6 % to 19.5% better then the 2700X at 4.2 GHz while having a 19% faster clock. This seems like a win for AMD.

It's a bit behind with slow RAM like the 8400 has to run on b360 or h370 boards. And you're comparing to the 2600 not 2600X?
I did forget to mention enabling PBO, but that should be a given.

Yep. Not sure why people spammed underclocked 2700X vs overclocked 8700k like it's some sort of victory. Just makes them look like idiots.

>I need someone to tell me what to read and think
Why are you here then newfag ?
you need to go back

Attached: fuck off.jpg (480x640, 42K)

Shame they're slower than 8700k's 12 threads in common tasks.

>So the 2600x is 2% to 10% better than the 8400 at 3.8 GHz while having a x% faster clock. This seems like a win for Intel
It's like you want to say it but your boss doesn't let you.
Isnt the only difference between 2600 and 2600x the fan? Or whatever that doesnt affect perfomance at all.

Attached: 7cc.jpg (750x563, 60K)

>Isnt the only difference between 2600 and 2600x the fan
... no.
2600X is 4.25GHz boost. 2600 is 4.1GHz.

Can't you read specs?
