What exactly Emacs trying to be a text editor or an Operating System? Who should choose it over Vim?

Vim obviously
>unless you like having a finger pressing Ctrl button all day
So what, you don't CTRL-[ then? You seriously ESC all the time?
it's trying to be a lisp machine since Stallman couldn't build one himself.
>He doesn't ctrl+c or bind it to something else entirely
>he doesn't use ed(1)
:help usr_toc
unironically this
This is actually the correct answer.
I have Microsoft Office Word for that, thanks.
just saw someone using it as ?-environment** instead of a wm or an desktop environment and I got a huge fucking boner.

What would be a fitting term for this ?
An extensible text editor. I would really like a rewrite with a modern core based either on guile or another sane language rather than elisp.
I use neovim for this very reason (vimscript sucks though) until I'm annoyed enough to write my own. I do however value being able to run a terminal in a buffer and proper text rendering which is something needed for modern editor work (this could be a plugin).
Can you rephrase that in English you stupid faggot?
Sure, I could also rip out several of my teeth to make it sound more English.
>People complain about Atom and VS Code being web browser.
>Emacs is an actual operating system.
do people not know what an operating system is at all?
it's a system that's operating
No, what you expect?
why use ed when you have sam
funnily enough, atom is very similar to emacs in design and javascript was actually based on scheme
porting plan9 to Unix is like Stallman porting his lisp machine. it's just sad. Let it go; Unix won
but sam was designed for unix and was ported to plan 9
Kek
Except Atom is webshit and Emacs is teletypeshit
Javascript is Scheme's aborted rape baby.
And yet JS is the better language.
You're just sticking up for your fellow rape baby.
>scheme
>parenthesis out the wazoo instead of a variety of braces, brackets and parenthesis
Yeah I'll take javascript
TEST
no its a gnu + a system that is operating
It's easier to exit from emacs than from vim. So for lots of quick edits in different config files emacs
Is it? ZZ is pretty easy.
editing conf files on cli: vim/nano
everything else: emacs
I do my dissertation in emacs (markdown mode for small stuff, auctex for LaTeX) with like 7 minor modes.
Why use Sam when there's Vis (Vi + Sam)?
> not inoremap
>emacs
ed
>markdown
asciidoc
>latex
troff
It's like you love shit software or something.
