Found the problem. You're a boomer.

whew once i had to install windows 10 on my friend's computer and it took me literally 12 HOURS

Rather have a win7 install than taint my gnu/linux install with WINE and the proprietary trash I need this laptop to run

>7
There's your problem

Your list of viable alternatives is looking pretty fucking empty.

>implying microsoft lets you download a 7 image anymore
>implaying pirate copies aren't extra botnet

>complaining that an old, outdated OS has too many updates

the state of Jow Forums children

If you need Windows there aren't any viable alternatives

yes I need this trash proprietary accounting software for work and im not gonna install it under WINE because WINE is a spyware enabler

>W10 is free
>Still pirate it

>2018
>still bothers with updates
Your probably one of those fags that uses anti-virus too aren't you?

It's not free, nor gratis.

>8 hours and a dozen reboots later it's still finding updates it needs to install
No it’s not.

>not installing windows 7 x64 utlimate sp1 pre activated
what is wrong with you?

>pre-activated

>Get Windows 10 over some weird (((cooperation program))) with my university and Microdicks
>Need three hours to get rid of most of the telemetry bullshit
>Automatic time feature doesn't work, always two hours behind actual time
>Switching it off and on makes explorer.exe freeze
>Boot up PC, is instantly there
>Takes ages to run properly when directly signed in after boot
>Notification sound plays at 50 % tempo and one octave lower two seconds after landing on the sign-in screen
>The kind of spooky pokémon creepypasta shit that gives you nightmares
Count your blessings, user, Windows 10 is even more horrible.

>Buy a PC
>Windows 10 preinstalled, no need to do anything

>sudo apt-get update
>sudo apt-get upgrade

>using 2 commands
alias updateall = "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade"

Fair enough, doing it like that would save time. I'm just used to doing stuff like that longhand.

We love the future!

You deserve it dude.

Is recommended on MDL, so is good enough for everyone.

Until an update breaks it all and forces you to wipe your drive while reinstalling

Literally never happened.
Also why do you keep spamming that image of an intern who's scared of 10k lines of code? That's the type of dude Jow Forums makes fun of regularly for being unable to even fizzbuzz.

>slipstreamed installation media
>have a perfectly functional system within an hour

Feels good

You think that guy is the only one there?

>that pic
every time
dude literally says he does not know anything and just copy paste code and hope it works and then says its HAAAARD, yea being stupid pretending to be smart is hard.

What?

Why do you think that guy is only one of his kind? in MS

Well yeah, if its a SP1 iso its installing 7 years worth of updates.
I've done it recently and its closer to 4 hours and like 3 reboots tops.

That's why you download the convenience rollup for Windows 7 from Microsoft that was released in 2016.

With or without the checking bug fix?

It was the only iso I could find that was actually from their servers.

I don't know what you mean.

>installing "security" updates in 2017

a) you can if you have a product key
b) if you don't use some iso downloading tool (literally pulls it from microsoft.com but bypasses some things)

As Windows 7 SP1 is an almost 9 year old operating system, you need some core updates so that Windows Update can run fluently again. Reposting it here:
- current Windows Update agent (KB949104, support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/949104/)
- KB3102810
- KB3020369
- Convenience Rollup Update (KB3125574)
- reboot
The three latter ones can be pulled from the Microsoft Update catalog: catalog.update.microsoft.com/home.aspx

Enjoy Windows Update finding all remaining 200+ updates within five minutes instead of several hours.

>install up to date windows 7 (sp1 included)
>download monthly rollups
>install them
done

pro tip: download the updates first using wsus offline

>Install win7
>disable updates
>disable smb1&2
>aegis script
>use install gentoo wiki for performance and ricing guides
>use howtogeek guides for further registry hacks
Those guides should be added to the wiki desu, that shit is what makes win7 worthwhile in 2018

For years I've just kept an untouched W7 SP1 image + WSUS Offline (with all updates) on my thumbdrive. Saves me a lot of time.
Legit question here, though. Has slipstreaming updates into the w7 image ever caused issues for you, anons? Just curious since some people complain about it causing unspecified issues down the line. I might just try it for my next reinstall.
