b) if you don't use some iso downloading tool (literally pulls it from microsoft.com but bypasses some things)

As Windows 7 SP1 is an almost 9 year old operating system, you need some core updates so that Windows Update can run fluently again. Reposting it here:
- current Windows Update agent (KB949104, support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/949104/)
- KB3102810
- KB3020369
- Convenience Rollup Update (KB3125574)
- reboot
The three latter ones can be pulled from the Microsoft Update catalog: catalog.update.microsoft.com/home.aspx

Enjoy Windows Update finding all remaining 200+ updates within five minutes instead of several hours.

For years I've just kept an untouched W7 SP1 image + WSUS Offline (with all updates) on my thumbdrive. Saves me a lot of time.
Legit question here, though. Has slipstreaming updates into the w7 image ever caused issues for you, anons? Just curious since some people complain about it causing unspecified issues down the line. I might just try it for my next reinstall.
