Tfw I don't know what the fuck I'm doing, what should I do next, linux feels so weird and I think KDE is very bloated.
What do??

You're retarded.

>He didnt install Ubunutu or Mandrake
You're not even getting the best linux experience. Mint Linux is nice too.

Because I can see a shit load of software that I'll probably never use, I wanted to renove some, but I didn't know how

Come back to Windows man. We're always here for you. It just works and try not listening to these pathetic virgins on Jow Forums anymore.

>use a new system
>be shocked when you don't know all the ins and outs
I'm pretty sure kde has a front end to the installed software installed by default. If it does, then you're even dumber than I thought. If it doesn't, you're still fucking stupid for being incapable of doing any amount of research on your own

I know
I'm getting sick of dealing with Windows shit, and I always wanted to learn linux, thanks tho

Why do you want to use GNU/Linux? KDE is relatively bloated, try something else or look into how to customize it. Go look up "The Linux Command Line" and work through it, or fire up Emacs and go through the tutorial. Open up the package manager and just scroll through the packages looking for interesting programs. Install them and play around. There are lots of things to try out if you are completely new. Otherwise, fire up your browser of choice and fap to hentai.

don't sweat it OP, ricing your desktop is retarded and nonfunctional

get a mac

Attached: nXoliun.gif (320x240, 602K)

Just use Fedora or Ubuntu with Gnome add a few customizations to the layout install whatever programs you need and off you go

doing anything else with linux is just autistic

you got meme'd my boy, linux desktop is trash

>I'm getting sick of dealing with Windows shit

well, look. Serious. What are you sick of dealing with Windows?. It's problem something your doing wrong because my Windows is running just fine. Maybe I can give you some tips & tricks.

You think it's running fine but in the background it's a complete mess and waste of resources

This and other shit

>debian 9
>kde

Attached: facepalm-bert.jpg (526x361, 26K)

should've installed it in a vm

>waste of resources
seriously? if you have a decent computer for 2018, you're not really wasting anything.
you're not gonna do shit with those resources and you know it, g.

Attached: 1524676079699.png (400x400, 626K)

well, I hear you. Typical plebs wouldn't be bothered by all that crap in the background and power users will. If you happen to be a power user (which kind of seems so which is why you've actually messed with Linux) then you would be wise to learn to tweak Windows and disable services as well as customize the iso and disable the bloat.

You can customize your Windows 10 ISO so that you don't even need to mess with it afterwards. Use NTlite to mess with Windows 10 install iso. You can also use Windows 10 LTSB which doesn't come with all the store/xbox bullshit that the pro ships with. Not sure if you ever heard of blackviper services but check out that site for a starting point on how to disable services.

If it seems like a lot of work I suppose it is but I'm sure so is learning Linux.

delet desktop env and install ratpoison, proceed to rice from there on

Yeah customize the ISO to instead of 2gb of ram on idle it does 1! Great work! Fuck your bloat shitty faggot spyware malware os. Cocksucking monkeyfuck

>only being able to afford 2 gb of ram

get a job neet

So many fucking Windows shills holy shit I'll try to help you best I can OP.
KDE sucks, you would be more familiar with an interface like LXQt, which is an excellent desktop environment which extremely lightweight as well. I reccommend installing Lubuntu, since you are a beginner. Ubuntu has the most package support, and it's the first step for a lot of noobs. Lubuntu is a flavor of Ubuntu, which is a fork of debian. They both run the same apt way of downloading things.
Have fun!

askubuntu.com/questions/187888/what-is-the-correct-way-to-completely-remove-an-application
Don't be afraid of using the terminal, just copy and paste stuff and sooner or later it'll be second nature for you.

Doesn't matter how much RAM you have, why should the OS consume more than 1GB on idle?

>Doesn't matter how much RAM you have, why should the OS consume more than 1kb on idle?

ftfu

What the fuck, user

Instead of gnome, use KDE of Xfce

The average amount of ram these days is what, 8 GB? So I'm going to use 13% of my ram just to fucking RUN the operating system? Not to mention, that OOB it deals 25% of my fucking ram

I guess you're right. You can go to Linux and use less ram and get sluggish non-responsive performance. I'd rather get a smooth experience and use up some more ram. Doesn't matter since I NEVER run out.

Have you even USED Linux before???

yeah, not recently though. Also, I know it isn't THAT laggy, but the gui feels lacking to me. I notice this in the first couple seconds I use it. Not sure what it is and if a configuration can fix it but bottom line is I am just way too used to Windows by default being lightning responsive with window clicking and shit like that. I do way too much bouncing around back and forth between Windows and stuff.

this, just install vmware or virtualbox and install a distro if you want to learn linux

remember kids, transition effects speed things up to faster than without them, because the 200ms animation before the information displayed made it look zoomier

Underrated post.

Also this

>remember folks, that soccer goal only APPEARED fast as hell. Actually happened at 5mph and we were all going in slow motion with it.

>windows fag
I tried Windows once. Why doesn’t windows have tabs? Changing the IP address is a 9000 steps process. Wtf?

>bloated
you are learning retarded concepts from Jow Forums, while also not really learning what could be important for you

unrelated to the above statement, my suggestion is to keep using windows and install linux on VMs, as many distros as you want, and simply try shit, break shit, etc.

now, what is important for you? what do you want to learn? why did you decide to try linux at all? an OS is a tool, not an end on itself.

Microsoft "Tech Evangelist" is not a real job faggot, off yourself
the fact is, not only do you have no idea what kind of bullshit is taking place when windows is running fine, but there's no way to fix it when it's not, which it seems to be doing a lot lately

it also has a laughable level of customizability and often needs registry hacks for the simplest of operations, windows "power users" are non-existent because unless your daddy is Bill Gates there's no way to change anything substantial neither at userland or kernel level
I'm incredibly thankful that I'm able to really own my hardware by tailoring the OS and software to my liking, and I'm even more thankful to the virtualization communities that let me sandbox any closed down malware that I need to run

also
>gui lacking
is proof that you have no idea what you're talking about, Jow Forums is a Linux board

>the linux '''''GUI''''
You don't know anything about Linux you fucking lying cunt. Linux is a fucking kernel, it doesn't come with a '''gui'''. And there are multiple '''gui''''s. There is no one official ''gui''.

>not only do you have no idea what kind of bullshit is taking place when windows is running fine

uhmm. You have some kind of idea when Windows is running fine. Here's how you can tell since you're too fucking stupid to figure it out on your own.

-Your shit isn't crashing
-your shit isn't lagging
-your shit is doing what you want

>inb4 every windows os is confirmed to be running malware behind the scenes you don't know why, I know it hurr durr

>the obligatory "he mistakes Linux for a distro" response.

let me interject...

What did you do to tailor the OS to your liking?

KDE is usually full of bloat. If you want a lightweight desktop environment, I would use Mate, XFCE, and once you learn more about GNU/Linux, I would try a tiling WM >running a os with less than 100mb of ram

> if it runs, it's solid
The absolute state of Jow Forums. My god I hope this is b8

>if it runs good it's got tech A.I.D.S.

tinfoil/aluminum/titanium/adamantium hat

>the obligatory "he mistakes Linux for a distro" response.

>let me interject...

No you fucking braindead idiot I said that there is no preset ''GUI'' for Linux, the same GUI would find on Kubuntu is not the same for Lubuntu, not the same for SUSE, so on and so forth. These DE's are either preset or installed manually, there are fucking hundreds of them, there is no ONE LINUX GUI. Fucks sakes

First of all, never listen to Jow Forums
Second of all, Debian is a bad distro for beginners. It is a classic distro with old gnu/unix rules.
Spare yourself the time and install Linux Mint Cinnamon. It has working drivers and a nice software boutique.
When you'll be ready to switch to Debian, you'll know it

Attached: average_arch_user.gif (315x236, 2.66M)

>Your shit isn't crashing
Windows encountered a problem :(

2GB of ram on idle lol

>Try un-installing candy crush, doesnt work, want to make DE not look like garbage, sorry it only lets you change the backgrund and the color sweetie

My problem with Windows is not telemetry, its bloat. It's fucking bloatware. I used to dual boot Ubuntu and Windows and Rust ran ALOT faster on Linux than on Windows. Windows is a resource hogger.

I never said anything about "muh privacy" dipshit. You thinking that is why people prefer linux proves how clueless and gullible you are.

nice, not only you ignored the whole post and cherry picked half a sentence, but you're also retarded about what you picked
look Jow Forums, a new type of shill appears, at first it was
>s-so what if they take your data you're not a filthy pedo are you
and now they're completely denying what Microsoft itself admitted, definitely not the best India has to offer, let me talk to your supervisor
Gentoo, kernel contains only what your machine needs specifically for it's hardware, all applications are compiled from source using flags to specify what you'd like to exclude
example, when you install Firefox from a binary it contains support for all kinds of environments, and contains all kinds of features while compiling it with specific flags lets you remove these features and have only what you want, it's a clean system where you're fully in the know
apart from that everything else is related to your window manager and X/Wayland configuration and a bit of ricing
a good rice is usually focused on function too, I can't give any specific examples since there are so many options, but just visit the unixporn subrediot and posts under the workflow tag, there's some inspiring things like this
reddit.app.link/R6jkXI1juO
in the end it all depends on how you want to use your system, and that's what's important

>I used to dual boot Ubuntu and Windows and Rust ran ALOT faster on Linux than on Windows. Windows is a resource hogger.

Can you show me a video of how fast your Linux system was going?. Here's mine. I really do want to see a Linux system going smoother than this. I'm willing to be proven wrong.

Attached: windows.webm (1280x720, 2.68M)

shiggy diggy, must be b8 but I bit

Attached: images.jpg (223x226, 9K)

there is a friendly linux thread posted here every fucking day for you noobs, fuck

Kek this. What a fucking moron.

>can't screen capture desktop to webm in Linux

Linux really is superior. I'm going to uninstall Windows right now guys. Thanks.

>tried windows once
No, you've used it many times, there is literally zero reason to lie about this, Im going to assume youre an autistic summerfag.
>tabs
Tabs are irrelevant and not necessary for multitasking on windows platforms
>changing IP is 9k step process and liek suuuper hard u guise
Here's another scenario: you fell for *nix meme and wanted to be cool like ebin le hackers XD and put your time and learning into Linux. In a week alone you could learn most of software side of windows and how to configure anything. Hell you can literally type into windows search "network adaptor", open your adapter, change IP/DNS/Proxy/ETC in fucking SECONDS. Seconds, user. You're either retarded or "too cool" for windows, which still makes you retarded.

I'm guessing he is equating "bloat" to the number of pre-installed software and libraries.

>tfw to smart
summerfags GTFO
>Jow Forums is a Linux board
Jow Forums is a technology board. (You) on the other hand are autistic

>I think KDE is very bloated
Install lighter WM/DE.

I hadn't laughed this hard in weeks.

I3 is amazing you shut your filthy clam
If I could use it on windows my life would be complete

>windows
>muck around in GUI's for ages before getting to any specific or advanced option
>feels like a goddamn labyrinth

>linux
>look up option in man pages or the internet
>Super+t or whatever key combo fires up the terminal
>insert command
>remember where to find it incase you ever need to change it again

idk honestly, the windows setting system is needlessly bloated with pointless GUI's and programs that are much better suited for a terminal interface.

I used linux as a main OS for a while, but I found it was way better suited as a server, hobby or work OS rather than a main one unless you specifically need it for something. I still use debian for my media server (its stable as all fuck, dont really need bleeding edge to play movies).

To answer your question, I dont know, just think of things you want to do, then google how to do it via the cli. Get comfortable installing/updating packages. But I found linux to be a much better "set it and forget it" os than a "autistically fuck around with" os, unless you enjoy googling and fixing problem after problem. Because after a certain point, almost everything you do will end up breaking something else and it just ends up being a vicious cycle of tweaking

>muck around in GUI's for ages before getting to any specific or advanced option
>feels like a goddamn labyrinth

You do realize that the same can be said about Linux to a person who is unfamiliar with it right?. It's subjective and demonstrative NOT of Windows but of the person using it. If you know Windows it doesn't seem that way.

I'm certain that you could substitute "windows" in your statement with anything else on this planet and someone will agree because everybody is only familiar with a limited number of things.

>bloated
Oh boy, you fell for the bloated meme.
If your computer is so weak that it can't handle kde, just turn off some animations. It's what I do on older machines.

regedit

It's not bloated if it's just installed and not running. It's there because it's a desktop distro aiming at many different needs.

>that mpc load time for a 500mb file
install mpv before next time you want to show off how fast you can open things

This post basically. I'd also recommend that you take a look at the XFCE and MATE desktop environments as slightly more heavy alternatives to LXTQ to keep your options open. If you don't enjoy KDE's bloat then I would stay away from Gnome too though

LOL and you retards complain about windows preinstalling stuff?

>he fell for the KDE meme
that is one sad trap to fall into.

>fell for the only sane desktop environment currently

>KDE
>debian
you made a bad choice

Ubuntu is just Debian with Gnome and telemetry. Mint is basically a giant security hole. You're a retard.

user, I'll take the bait.
Debian is not a good choice for begginer's desktop. Ubuntu is Debian with sane, default configs and fresh repos (unless you got Debian testing).
Go with Ubuntu. After you get comfy and want to know more, run Debian in VM.

I hope this is a troll.

What you don't get is that your first introduction to linux should have been Ubuntu

It's all a journey, man. We could give you tips, but you should probably explore a lot on your own if you want to really learn and enjoy yourself. Try out different DEs (Desktop Environments)/WM (Window Managers). Learn some terminal stuff. Like, how to install and update software, or how to edit text with vim. Most people don't "get it" right away.

>debian
Debian was designed by a team of programmers who hate people.

sounds like Jow Forums

Holy fucking top kek

So you really need to know your way around linux before even considering it?

nah, that guy is full of shit, as expected.
You need to know your way around google

>If you don't have a search engine right next to you it's useless

Think I'll take the plunge soon than thanks. I know enough about linux I think/hope

There's a minimal install option you retard.

>minimal install x
>"oh hey I want to use y on x"
>install y
>x is now bloated
every fucking time

kek

>what are manpages and help menus
search engines are the fastest way to find solutions, but not really the only way.

>"yea guys windows sucks, just switch to linux, it's awesome it's free it's amazing!"
>...
>"hold on, ubuntu? nono lmao, it's spyware, canonical sucks and mark is a cuck"
>"Fedora? enjoy betatesting for redhat kek"
>"KDE? Bloated ugly piece of shit that's forever bound to be a second-thought DE"
>"Gnome? slow, single threaded bloated trash made by retards"
>"yea that's right just use primitive window managers like it's the 90s!"
>"what do you mean by "HiDPI"? Hotplugging monitors? Touchpad gestures? who needs all that shit lmao"
>"what? Thumbnails in file picker? topkek look at this winbabby, i bet he doesnt even know how to install arch, let alone gentoo"
>"Games? what a manchild"
>"Professional software? Lmao proprietary slave, get fucked."
>"What do you mean "how do i uninstall linux"? Giving up already? Bah, whatever, fucking microsoft shill eat shit and die you bitchnigger cunt, enjoy your inferior OS lol"

Is that for KDE Plasma 4 or 5?

Budgie might also be an option if you are willing to go heavyweight

Source?

>muh RAM usage = bloat
How about some worthwhile stats, like how many CPU cycles it uses, or how much of your GPU it eats.

Windows 10 is 50GB. It is laughable you are such a clueless microsoft fanboy that you would call linux bloated compared to windows. What a fucking moron!

inb4 Linux is not an OS

holy shit that cope
>w10 is shit therefore it's ok for linux to be bloat

>win fag
>kde is bloated
You have got to be baiting.
