Can Kaspersky be trusted?

I literally don't trust Kaspersky because it's Russian. I find it hard to believe the Russian government doesn't stick their nose into their business, and by extension ours, either directly or indirectly. Even if the company had good intentions, their government doesn't.

What's your take?

>Trusting """Antivirus""" software are all
That shit is literally worse than the malware itself, and are stupidly ineffective.
Just install a real operating system which isn't as susceptible to that garbage.

The only thing I learned from russians is to never trust russians.

Install gentoo you fucking winshit boomer

I never said I use 3rd party anti virus software. I'm just asking for opinions on this one, specifically. Jesus, you guys constantly jump the gun.

The source code is available for big corporations. The reason for fear mongering is because Jews got upset when Kaspersky detected virus like tools on pc and sent a copy for investigation back to HQ. If it didn't behave like a virus the application would have stayed on a computer.

Antivirus is a scam for retarded boomers who click shady porn links

You don't need an antivirus for linux.

>not using latest Common Sense 2018
are you even trying to be safe?

>The source code is available for big corporations.
src?

the internet

They built their live recovery/scanning tools on top of Linux. Pretty sure they released most of the code they glued on top of whatever distro they picked.

JFL @ USING ANTI-VIRUS IN 2018

dont get KIV, get KIS. In baltics it cost ~22€ for 3 PCs

Oof

t. russian

>I literally don't trust $american_product because it's American. I find it hard to believe the American government doesn't stick their nose into their business, and by extension ours, either directly or indirectly. Even if the company had good intentions, their government doesn't.

I would trust it more than any US/NSA based antivirus. But you don't need any kind of antivirus in 2018. I never had a single problem in years with Windows Defender, just don't execute exes from untrustly sites.

t.ukrainian or t.baltic would have made more sense

I know a lot of people hate the level of monitoring in A/V, but that does serve a very useful purpose (other than feeding governments with your personal information they mostly don't give a shit about - eg your anime or porn collection) and that is to track malware in the wild. it's resource-intensive as fuck, but it's the last line of defense against new malware. how do you think new viruses get detected? clueless users won't know how to send samples, and the authors won't be e-mailing A/V companies their source code.
>tl;dr let A/V engines send back wild virus samples to A/V companies for analysis

Why are you using an antibiotic virus in the first place

What the fuck

Are we that bad?

FSB botnet

Why do you think Kaspersky would throw away 21 years of trust in the computer security community to spy for the government?
Do you TRULY believe they would risk getting caught for that?

Attached: installing both bitdefender and kaspersky.webm (1280x720, 2.48M)

>using Russian botnet
>using any proprietary closed-source anti-virus products

If you live in any western country, yes.

Russia doesn't give a fuck about you.

If you live in Russia no.

It's better than using US products, which spy on you no matter where you're from

Good being Russian then

You aren't seriously falling for the propaganda, are you?
>Hillary get's busted for illegal content on her server
>Some bumblefuck at the NSA leaves work with a laptop full of secrets and let's Kaspersky scan his files when he gets home.
Are you seeing a pattern here? Whenever these retards in government screw up, they have to create an enemy to take the heat for them.

Trusting NEET opinions on the internet. JUST

>he drank CNN's kool-aid

Sad.

Right, because the Russian government would give them a pass, just because.

just install multiple antiviruses with real time protection

if one of them does something shady the other ones will take it down

actually gonna try this

>any gov
> good intentions
being this gullible

As IT pro you have to recomend Kaspersky but outside job you can throw shit to russians

>I literally don't trust Kaspersky because it's Russian
> Oh, let's trust the 'muricans instead who don't ever have evil companies

They already have identified FBI's crafted trojans.

That's typical intrusive autocorrect I would say

As a Brit, I literally don't care if Russia spies on me. I don't really have anything particularly untoward for them to find, but if I did...
>there's nothing they can do with the information directly
>they would never share the information with any Western authority who /could/ do anything
The only exception would be if I were politically active in a way that majorly threatened Russia's interests in some way. In that case I'd probably be concerned about getting poisoned with a nerve agent.

America and russia are both run by jews. So youre getting jew shit either way

It can absolutely be trusted for home users, and small businesses. The only flaw is that the Russian government has wiretaps, so if they're after you for some reason, they can filter though the data that's being sent to Kaspersky by your computer and get what they want. If you're really trying to avoid the Russian government however, you shouldn't be using Windows anyways.

Antivirus is a joke. I just use VirusTotal when I want to check something.

Kaspersky is still well respected in infosec and they do a lot of academic stuff in addition to their commercial antivirus. I dislike all the FUD about them.

It's proprietary? Cannot be trusted.

All AVs are proprietary. Might as well just accept it. The only open source AV that ik of is Clam, but it's shit

> If you're not cheating,you're not trying.
Russians just want to win win win. Everything is on the table.

cheating and deceit seems to be part of russian culture

You can get a license on ebay for less than $10. Those pajeets make bank reselling their dirt cheap licenses.

Lets put this into perspective. Governments arent even slighty interested in surveilling most people here.

Nobody gives a fuck about what kind of hentai you like to watch, user.

JEWISH AMERICAN SHILL OP FUCK OFF
JEWISH AMERICAN SHILL OP FUCK OFF
JEWISH AMERICAN SHILL OP FUCK OFF
JEWISH AMERICAN SHILL OP FUCK OFF

it's like putting every venomous insect/animal in a closed arena
I'd do this in a VM

I use it and it is pretty good, I would either go for this or for bitdefender.

Better yet, don't download viruses. Simple as that.

Fuck off with that ruski pig shit

it phones home and you should not trust them

Their support is pretty good compared to their competitors.

Barring their shitty English that is.

wow thanks autist

I dropped Windows Defender for Kaspersky Free
The ads are a bit annoying but on my spinning rust machines the IO load it's way less, which it's a significant difference on such slow machines
It's also the only one that didn't left known CVEs that the CIA used purposely unpatched, and the only one to patch the unknown ones promptly
Their research on cybsec it's legit too, though almost the entirety of management are FSB plants, as long as you aren't a target of the Russian oligarchy it's by far the best AV out there

Are you implying we're going to delete our posts, and you're "saving" them in case we do?

The problem is for corporate users, which is probably one of the main customers. People that want to keep their information private: lawyers, accountants, physicians, journalists, researchers, contractors, etc. Imagine how many people have heard that kaspersky is reliable but have no idea the russians could have access to that information.

>I just use VirusTotal
Unfortunately, there's a limit on the file size you can submit. When I put malware on my Piratebay uploads, I always pad the file to make it bigger than what VirusTotal accepts. It helps to put some bullshit about false positives in the description, too.

>unironically needs an antivirus
Antiviruses are literally the virtual nanny telling you when you're being retarded by download totally_not_virus.exe
You don't need one unless your iq < 50.

Don't not trust Kaspersky because it's Russian.
Don't trust it because it's Jewish.

what's the limit?

Lmao the entire dutch goverment is run on this shit. And since 5 months they are scared shitless and wanting to remove it. But it's the goverment so it will take like, let me guess another 4 years?

pls don't remind me
>local business i help when they have IT issues
>installed their new computer system and network
>owner's wife is using the computer
>sees fake ransomware popup
>asks her son for help
>he's solution is to install AVG, MacAfee, Norton and Avast.
>they had been using only MSE and MB for years with no issues
>computer runs slower immediatly
>by the next day the user account is corrupted and they can't login
When I went to fix it they tell me they turned off the backup so had to spend the day backing up their files and reinstalling windows and their software. all because of some stupid javascript popup and their retarded son

Btw don't hope or trust software. Read and inspect it, inspect updates. if not open source your fucked anyway (like bitdefender, Microsoft and cisco stuff.

> What is the maximum file size that can be submitted to VirusTotal?

128MB for the web and email interfaces, 32MB for the API interface by default. Having said this, should you have a strong and justified need to send big files through the API (even larger than 128MB) you can contact us in order to have access to the big files API call.

>When I put malware on my Piratebay uploads
based
what do you upload them as/call them?

Antivirus software is for retards.
No script, ublock, https everywhere.
Windows fucking 7, stay far away from 10.

Fuck Kaspersky. If you've got Mac OS X, macOS or Windows just go with MalwareBytes.

It deals with the vast majority of threats that you'll run into, if you're a fucking idiot and actually allow adware and malware to download themselves, and they're much superior to Kaspersky.

If you've got Linux, why the fuck are you asking about anti-virus?

C:\ommon sense

Man if I download an EXE larger than 128MB I ain't clicking that shit.
