Chromecast

I was given a Chromecast. What do I do with it?

I already have a PS4 for Netflix.

Sell it or throw it away

Sounds good to me.

Play pirated shit through VLC

The chromecast uses less electricity for netflix if you care about that.

How it works?

If you're using VLC for Android, the Chromecast icon just appears. If you're using desktop VLC, its:

Playback > Renderer > Chromecast

You'll find a use for it when the time comes. I've ran into plenty of cases where i wanted to stream something that was only on my phone to the tv, or from my desktop.

I use it to play pirated movies using 'Videostream for Chrome'.

no it doesn't you need a special version of VLC the regular one has no cast button

>he pays for netflix

Chromecast is pretty useful. It's basically a dongle that plays anything compatible with it (music, Netflix, Google Play Movies, Hulu, YouTube, etc etc).
The thing I like about it is the fact that it has an invisible interface (meaning no menus to dive through) and you control it with your phone.

And the netflix app for chromecast is way better than it is on PS4 anyway, so stop using your PS4 for anything other than gaming.
and you really shouldn't be console gaming anyway, you degenerate.

I tried this and it works, but now it forces you to run some random win32 setup and it feels shady.

Not really, you can use it to cast videos to your TV. If he got it for free, why not? Not everyone is an autist who lives in their room and attaches their desktop to the TV

>he only has 1 tv

>he doesn't have an Oculus Rift to watch videos in his virtual theater

We use it to cast playlists from Youtube for the kids. The thing is terrific for movie night. Stan and Netflix cast straight to it without any issues. It's more of a convenience tool but we find it awesome. Legit brand ver. 2.
The knock offs probably work badly, but I haven't tried any.

I can vouch for this. I bought a Vizio TV with "Chromecast built-in", only it's not Chromecast. It's just some weird offshoot platform Vizio made that works with the Chromecast algorithm.
It's terrible and I hate it. The TV always crashes and freezes. Glitches galore. Generally just terrible.

Like with Android for phones...the device makers cant resist fucking with things or not supporting things in andorid. I have a sony bravia tv running AndroidTV. Naturally it has chromecast built in etc. Built in youtube app wont play in HDR despite the display supporting it. You can chromecast youtube to the TV and HDR will light up, but not actually be in HDR. Chromecast audio is only stereo even though the TV supports 5.1 output over both optical or HDMI ARC for built in apps.
I really wish they would start selling platform agnostic displays, with only enough firmware/software to calibrate the screen and switch inputs. TV makes trying to implement android, or roku etc built into the tv is a mistake.

>rift
>virtual theater

no. The vive barely does it well. Not enough pixels.

It's not really about pixels, per se. It's about the gap of space between them. The secret to reducing the screen door effect is eliminating the gap, not squeezing more pixels in. That can actually worsen the display quality, actually.

GO WRAP IT IN FOIL
RIGHT NOW

Reeeeeeee fucking botnet burn it op

kek

i use it for twitch and plex movies also i like to be able to cast 4k porn on my tv with it

He could do that with the ps4 and plex on a laptop or something.
