Storage

good evening, what types of storage (HDD / SSD) retains information for longer? , in addition to reliable brands.
I need to keep writings and images minimum for 5 years without having to plug it into the current

What kind of images OP?

i have mp3s and other files I've kept since 2001. Back up your files on two separate storage devices and stop worrying.

HDD's are reliable if you don't move them. SSD's are more reliable if you do move them. Both are unreliable.

It's very important to make a backup. If you don't want to plug anything in then just back your shit up online.

Also, without power a HDD is superior to a SSD.
I've had some bad experiences with CD's and DVD's losing data over time, but those were early generation disks.

Yes, but which of the two has a long lifespan?

nothing beats magnetic tape for long term storage.

whats the size? if its just a few gigs, just throw it up on the "cloud" and have google/microsoft/amazon/dropbox hold it for you. its fine as long as you're not an autistic paranoid sperging out on "muh privacy nsa" bs
treat your copies as 1 less than they are. if you have 1 copy of your files, treat it as if you have no copies
and follow the 3-2-1 backup rule on important files. have 3 copies of it, on 2 different mediums, and 1 at a different physical location.

In addition, what HDD brands do you recommend anons?

seagate and WD drives are a safe bet.

we talk about 50 gb of writings, drawings and porn.

American brands do you recommend?

other things you have to consider is if you're just going to let this data sit there or are you using it on a daily basis and if your storage needs are going to be expanding.
that and of course the cost of storing/backing up that data.
how important is it for you?
if you want to archive your shit and never touch it; just buy some cheap hdds, put ur shit on them, and put them away. hdd platters hold data at a theoretical timespan of ~20years iirc, but you have to take into account of build quality and drive failure; which is why the 3-2-1 method is always the recommended method of backing up data.

honestly, if all you're working if is a measly 50 gigs, and don't care that much about being an autist about properly backing up your data, just keep it on a hard drive. and split it up off onto different/multiple cloud drive services if you're poor/cheap
what said
never had a problem with WD. but thats anecdotal experience.

One green bean is two or three bites.

they are better

ohohoho

Is Seagate that bad for reliability?

1) Use a HDD (either your computer or a server)
2) Encrypt your data and upload to a "cloud" server.

That way you will have local backup and an "offsite" backup. The the cloud provider is compromised then you don't care because you encrypted your data before you uploaded.

>literally the two worst brands
you had one job

Do you not know that that's common?
