Overclocking
>Use PBO on Ryzen. Legacy overclocking is defunct on Ryzen 2#00X CPUs. youtube.com/watch?v=FC3fsVk9Sss

CPUs
>R3 2200G - Bare minimum gaming (dGPU optional)
>R5 2400G - Consider IF on sale
>R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs
>i7-8700K - Best for 1080p gaming, but most expensive when factoring in delid, high-end cooler, etc.
>R7 2700/X - Best high-end gaming/mixed usage on a non-HEDT platform
>Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT

Motherboards
>Only Z300 series Intel boards can utilize fast memory

RAM
>8GB - Enough for most gaming use
>16GB - Standard for heavy use
>32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this much
>Current CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal

Graphics cards
>GPU prices have gone down
1080p
>RX 570/580 /w Freesync or 1060 6GB are standard 1080p 60fps+ options
>1050Ti or RX560 for lower settings 1080p, or older games

2160p(4K)
>Titan V
OpenCL work
>Vega 64

Storage
>Consider StoreMi
>Consider getting a larger SSD (better GB/$) instead of small SSD & large HDD
>2TB HDDs are barely more $ than 1TB
>M.2 is a form factor, NOT a performance standard

Monitors

>Z370 for a i5 8400 is an overkill right?
It'll allow you to use faster RAM, But at that point, and when spending that much, you're just better off getting a 2600X.

>which b360 should i get
A cheap one that meets your needs. Newegg lets you compare them side by side.

Do people have this in their head just because of how well the 7970/280X/290 lasted?
Why do they think Nvidia GPUs would do the same when they historically did not?

Future proofing has been a dumb meme with the exception of those 3 cards, for the most part. It's better to save the money toward an upgrade.

Overspending retard here, is $430(including tax) for a 1070 more acceptable for a slightly more future 1080p card? I'm really paranoid about getting a 1060 6Gb because it was the designated 1080p card at launch two years ago. The 1060 6Gb is $360(with tax) for comparison. I'm hoping the 1070 will at least get close to the 1160 in performance I guess and that will hold 60 fps long enough where I feel alright buying a new GPU.

>Future proofing has been a dumb meme
No argument here. Unlike CPUs which may receive marginal IPC improvements over each generation, GPUs have a lot more software and firmware technologies that go with new cards.
Then wait for the 1060 successor later this year. Jesus, if you need to be tided over, buy a secondhand GTX 970 or R9 290/390 for $170. It's yet to be seen, but "Ray Tracing" looks to be the new party trick of next generation GeForce cards, not to mention massive upgrades in Cuda cores for each tier of card.

Are GPU and SSD prices as high as RAM prices? Looking to build a replacement for my 10 year old PC.

I can't wait for later this year and I've already purchased most of my list and the only left is the GPU.
pcpartpicker.com/list/bZxGxG
I've followed the advice here throughout my build along with my own research and I've heeded or partly heeded the advice many times. The GPU is just very confusing to me and I really don't want to fuck up my purchase so sorry if it feels like I'm being retarded or dense. I've had a GTS 450 in my current build for the longest time and I can't run anything anymore on top of it overloading my old power supply. I don't want to replace my monitors which is why I'm saying 60 fps, I'd rather get smooth gameplay instead of high variance 60 fps+ gameplay anyways.
I plan on playing games like Total War Three Kingdoms, my friend has a 1080 and he said he was forced to upgrade his 390 to a 1080 for Total War Warhammer 2 because it was crushing his older machine. The 1060 6GB is only marginally better than the 390 which is one of the reasons I'm worried about getting a 1060 6GB. I'm no stranger to turning down settings to play games but I'll feel retarded if I spend this much and my GPU is shit almost immediately just because I had to build right before a new generation hits.

I really don't want to buy a used 970 and wheel and deal GPU's every generation. I just want to buy something and be happy with it.

opinions?

For gaming, simulating, some coding, and general shenanigans on a $2500 budget

Probably waiting for the 1180 to come out so i can game at 4k with 60 fps. already bought the ram, the case, and the power supply cause they had decent deals on them

1060 successor likely isn't coming until next year, if ever.

1060 6Gb is still competitive and all you really need for 1080p gaming and there has been no leaks to suggest an 1160 is coming this year, which is understandable when it still runs games well 2 years later.
I think it's incredibly likely that they'll skip midrange with 12nm, and it'll be the 1260 launching next year on 7nm that'll be ~1080 performance for ~$300.

1070 isn't remotely worth $430, even *if*
>muh overspend for muh futureproof that Nvidia GPUs are always shit at
were an actual thing.

Vega 56 would be a better consideration, as it's not much more, has Freesync support, and it has the compute performance of a 1080Ti for a lot cheaper so it'll probably age better.
But you're still, again, better off saving money now toward an upgrade later when the GPU actually starts being slow in new releases.

Can you look at a retailer page to see SSD prices? Why not? I can and they've been better than ever in history. Fucking fast 1TB SSDs for only $200.

>pcpartpicker.com/list/MZ638Y
Those speakers are SO FUCKING BAD. Don't buy them.
What's with the artic silver? What is that even for? Do you eat it or some shit? You've obviously not using it on the waterblock since it's shitty.
Looks fine otherwise.

is there porn of lucky the dragon

>1060 successor likely isn't coming until next year, if ever
Going by the Lenovo sales blunder, the 1160 should be November/December.
>I can't wait for later this year and I've already purchased most of my list and the only left is the GPU
Again, get a GTX 970.
>I plan on playing games like Total War Three Kingdoms, my friend has a 1080 and he said he was forced to upgrade his 390 to a 1080 for Total War Warhammer 2 because it was crushing his older machine.
Your friend's either a clown who hates money, or he's got a 144hz monitor. A GTX 1080 performance at 1080p 60hz is overkill in the most redundant sense.

Attached: images.png (348x423, 12K)

>Those speakers are SO FUCKING BAD. Don't buy them.

really? i used to have the x-530s and they werent that bad, thought this was the modern version

got a recommendation?

>What's with the artic silver? What is that even for? Do you eat it or some shit? You've obviously not using it on the waterblock since it's shitty.

does it taste good? i might

but seriously i was under the impression most aftermarket thermal paste was essentially the same and performance differences were minimal at most. was intending to use it on an EKFluidgaming kit for cpu and gpu when i was settling for the 1080ti. but now that im willing to wait for the 1180 i was gunna get a founders, run on that till custom blocks come out for it and then continue my previous plan

got a recommendation on better thermal paste? is kryonaut really that good?

>Your friend's either a clown who hates money
He bought a 1440p monitor when he bought his 1080. He was having trouble with the R9 390.

>He bought a 1440p monitor
Ah well no shit a midrange card will struggle on that resolution. It's got almost twice the pixel count to render. Your friend's experience with requiring a GTX 1080 is completely irrelevant to yours on 1080p.

I got them thinking $60 5.1 can't possibly be THAT bad, but they are. They're worse than my cheap ass TCL TV built in speakers.

>got a recommendation?
There aren't many options. Vizio 5.1 sound bar. Z906. Or just get decent 2.1

>but seriously i was under the impression most aftermarket thermal paste was essentially the same and performance differences were minimal at most.
Silver is one of the worst. At least get MX4, gelid, nt-h1, cp7, etc. They are all under $10.
But if you're getting a custom water block, I don't understand why you wouldn't go liquid metal or at least kyronaut.

Should get 60+ fps minimum perfectly fine with a 390 in that game at 1440p at least on "high" instead of vhq settings.
I see the RX580 averaging 59fps at very high quality at 1440p. Like I said in the last thread, even the RX580 plays virtually everything in 1440p 60fps+ as long as you don't have to completely max everything out.

I don't recommend the 1070Ti and Vega56 on better for 1080p at all, let alone 1080p 60hz. Those cards do 75fps+ at 1440p at maxed or near maxed in almost all games. 144+ in more optimized games.

>They're worse than my cheap ass TCL TV built in speakers.

just curious, did you get the s405?

yes

Fuck I'm about to drop $150 on a used 1060 3gb but now I'm doubting again.

You have terrible reading comprehension or you're actively trying to troll me and I don't know which it is. The r9 390 was struggling with Total War Warhammer 2 at 1080p so he decided to buy a 1080 as it was a good deal and he bought a 1440p monitor along with it because buying a 1080 and playing on 1080p is genuinely retarded.

These are the cards I'm looking at and they all have pretty regular jumps in price with semi-regular jumps in performance. I think for me the 1060 6GB and the 1070 are the best options and from an outside perspective right now the 1070 seems like the card I want for the price. It is significantly more powerful than the 1060 6GB right? That power might be wasted and you might get a massive increase in power at the 1070ti/1080 but the prices for those cards don't feel right for my needs. I'm an autist and I just want the EVGA support knowing they'll help me if anything goes wrong.

>buy W10 DVD from Newegg for $90
>digital download version goes on sale for $80 today
>can't cancel
>have to wait for it to come in the mail

i'm an idiot

Attached: 1521936131131s.jpg (124x91, 2K)

>because buying a 1080 and playing on 1080p is genuinely retarded
Considering this whole conversation stemmed from some retard seriously deciding between a 1070ti or 1080 for future proof 1080p gaming, it's pretty easy to read that as context. I'm sorry I didn't distinguish your anymousity against someone else's.

Sorry, I was being a dick. You guys are just trying to help.

Where did you buy a DVD?
I don't think there even is an official DVD, only a USB stick with the iso on it

you're an idiot because you can't see into the future? ok, i guess

Should I get 2200g + 8gb ram or 2400g + 4gb ram and another 4g later?

Im looking for 2 monitors as mine are dying, i dont know much about refresh rates but my current system is this.

Attached: speccy.png (786x471, 48K)

i can spend like £1000

>1080p 60hz with a 1080ti
Lmao how long have you been like this
Get a 4k or 1440p/144hz ips gsync

i literally just got that 1080ti last week, thats why i came here to ask for recomendations, i'v been looking and i cant see anything past 60hz, whats the difference between 4k and 1440p?

also do you have any brand recomendations.

>whats the difference between 4k and 1440p?
the resolution and achievable refresh rate. Depends on you what you want.

>also do you have any brand recomendations.
doesn't really matter since they all end up using the same panels anyways. Test of individual monitors are what count, not brand names. At least mostly.

>whats the difference between 4k and 1440p
The pixels
You dont want to go more than 60hz on a 4k since you wont be getting more than 60fps in games. On the other hand at 1440p you will get close to 144fps so you want to get high refresh rate to have a more smooth experience.
>brand recomendations
Idk asus maybe but any will do really, just check the reviews before buying.

Anyone have a good comparison between the Ryzen 2600 and the i5-8400? Only reviews i can find are for gaming performance and i dont play video games

Gaming - shintel
Anything else - poozen

Alright i think 1440p/144hz is what ill settle on, it just seems like i cant find any

uk.pcpartpicker.com/products/monitor/#r=256001440&H=144,240&A=1&p=1&sort=popular&page=1

Is there any reason though?

can someone please recommend me a decent, not-too-expensive, quiet, PWM, 140mm case fan? something that can move lots of air. thanks!

Attached: 1503179939486.jpg (590x442, 143K)

If the 8gb ram is dual channel (2x4gb) then go ahead. Not much difference between the 2200G and the 2400G, just get the 2200G.

be quiet! Silent Wings 3, the PWM version, 14cm.

QLED or IPS?

Attached: 1531588309840.gif (500x281, 1.83M)

how do i know which gpu to buy before its bottlenecked by my cpu?

I'm planning on buying the 2600 but unsure what gpu to match it with?

Is the 1070 good enough?

nice! thanks! any recommendations for a 140mm pressure fan for a radiator?

Please answer :<
ATX/E-ATX are both fine. I want good airflow (no HDD brackets or removable brackets between front intake and GPU) and preferably compact case size.

I had a pile of those manuals from when I built my miner OP, cute that MSI made the instructions into a comic.

the CPU limit is pretty much set and is largely uninfluenced by higher resolution and graphic settings. If you run into a CPU limit you can just crank up the settings a bit if you don't want your GPU to end up doing nothing.

If you're running a 4K screen with high/ultra settings a haswell i7 is probably still good enough for a 1080Ti in pretty much all games for example

Best wallet friendly gpu for 1440p @ 144hz?

>inb4 wait for the next gpus to rollout?
if this, when??

i'm running a 1440p 144Hz screen on a R9 290. Entirely depends on your requirements

Do you think it's going to be worth upgrading to Ryzen 3XXX from a 1600? I'm guessing that I'm probably going to have to buy a new motherboard too?

Attached: 1531278369087.png (753x492, 34K)

Wow, thanks

So basically it doesn't really matter what gpu I get now, since I can just upgrade it later on down the line

AMD is better

Don't really care for maxed out graphics, would a 1060 or rx 580 be enough?

that's true for pretty much every component though. Get something that fits the requirements you have now and in the forseeable future

it will work, but those won't be pushing current demanding games with ~high settings to >100 FPS

Much better single core processing on Intel (gaming)

Much better multicore processing on Ryzen (everything else)

I've returned a ton of things on Newegg. Have you called them? They're normally cool about these kind of things.

>much better
>differences rarely make it out of the single digit % range

Also, you can just download W10 on the Microsoft website then buy a cheap key on a site like Kinguin.

Right, then will a 1070 do? Also what's the deal with freesync?

Like if I got an nvidia card instead of a radeon, would that be a massive goof?

Sorry I'm retarded.

This
MAK keys are cheap and legit

VA is better

2600 is shit in everything unless you overclock it.

Wrong.

Lian Li PC-011 Dynamic

Attached: O11D-s1-01.png (923x745, 523K)

Except it's true

the 1070 is a solid choice right now, sure. Just get a model with a decent cooler.

Unless you get a vega 56 for cheap AMD cards aren't really an option in that price range right now, so you don't really have a choice to begin with. Freesync is AMDs implementation of the adaptive sync feature of the open VESA standard (the guys that make displayport), and of the optional HDMI adaptive sync feature that officialy became part of the specification with HDMI 2.1. It does pretty much the same as g-sync. It's a nice feature, but the impact generally becomes smaller with higher refreshrates of the monitor and higher FPS. It is still very noteable though.
In the end the end nvidia will probably support the standard. Their propietary gsync modules become more and more expensive as resolutions and refreshrates go up while freesync can be implementent for pretty much pocket change since every new scaler supports it. The consoles support it, and intels GPUs will most likely support it in a few years at as well. If you already have a decent monitor you're probably not to badly off with just waiting how it turns out

is there any pc case that has gaskets on seams and covers and only lets air in and out through fans?

Every case I see is just fucking meme, dust comes in through every hole.

Would buying sillicone and sealing it be a good idea to consider?

the nanoxia deep silence 3 does a pretty good job at that

It explicitly says non-returnable and non-refundable so I don't think I can.

Thanks, that looks nice. Are there mounting holes for a rear fan? I don't see it in the specifications.

why would someone make a pc case so big people can stand on it? is that some kind of new form factor?

Don't think so. Guess that's the compromise of keeping external dimensions small, is that the motherboard to glass side panel measurement is too small for a standard size 120mm fan, or even the larger air cooler towers.

think theres gonna be any good deals for Prime day?

If you think that's bad, just wait until you see their faces when the crane lowers the roof panel down.

I think that's if opened. The CD comes with a seal on it. If you return it sealed, I think they refund you. No harm in calling and finding out.

The last time I paid attention to Prime Day was 2016 and it was incredibly disappointing.

When are Zen2 coming? I want muh discounts on Zen+ desu

Ahh righto, thanks! I guess I'll get myself a 1070.

Hopefully the next wave of gpus don't roll in too soon!

Zen+ just came out. Zen2 will probably be mid 2019

probably Q2 or Q3 next year. The second generation of epyc based on zen 2 comes before the consumer parts this time

Is 58° on a ryzen 2600 with stock cooler on 20% usage bad?

Attached: deathgrips-towerofterror-608x456.jpg (608x456, 47K)

Waiting is a meme anyways. I built my PC over a year ago and everybody was telling me not to buy a 1060 and to wait it out.

turing probably isn't to far off but nobody really seems to know

aw, okay, I'm just being a cheapskate because I've a limited budget for upgrades, and want something better than my 1200.

that's the stupidest case yet. dumb on every fucking level imaginable. it's pure form over function. fuck the guy who came up with that shit.

Attached: 1519012217782.jpg (600x600, 68K)

>stock cooler
get 212 evo

>just curious, did you get the s405?
Yes. 55S405.
Other than an uneven backlight (which is rarely noticeable in actual content. Only notice it in like loading Netflix which is a dark grey background), it's nice.

It's not nearly as good as my L654UCNN, which has shit reviews due to the lack of support from the company going under, but it's picture quality is amazing for the price paired with a smart box that has dithering support like Roku.

What currency are those prices..?

4gb of RAM is just impossible now days. You need 8 minimum.
Maybe try and save more money though. By the time you have enough saved for a 2400G+8GB, the 2400G might be on sale and/or RAM might be cheaper.

Acer Predator XB271HU or similar.
It's not like you have many options for 1440p 144hz+ Gsync IPS monitors. So pick one.

AHVA(IPS)

Like other user said, depends if you have to run shit maxed or if a mix of medium to highest settings are fine on the more demanding games.
In which case an RX580 8GB is good.

It's unlikely you'd find a 1070 for cheap. You'll pay around $300-$550 more for the 1070 and GSync monitor just to get, say, 100fps instead of 70fps or to play at slightly higher settings. Not really worth it.
Or you'll be getting a 75hz instead of 144hz monitor.

>Every case I see is just fucking meme, dust comes in through every hole.
You avoid this with positive pressure. ie 2x 140mm intake fans and 2x 120mm outake fans, or 3x intake and 1x outtake. Or even 0 outtake fans at all.

But yeah, I'd like to see more cases made like the FT-03 that have that "wind tunnel" effect to them.

Your 1200 should last you fine until Zen2. I feel you, though. I have a 1600 and want more.

Ignore the namefag AMD shill. It's one thing to have a preference, it's another to blatantly shill and give shit advice.

Not an argument.
Everything I posted is accurate.

Because last year, at this time, they were $100 more expensive.

im confused which one to get, 2700 or 2700X? is the price difference worth it?

Yes

Is it worth overclocking a 2600?? What will I get out of it? And is the stock cooler enough?

Where to get the Asus MG24UQ 4K IPS Freesync monitor in the EU?

thanks

unless you live in that weird iranian town that's hitting 45°C in shade, yeah, that's pretty bad. Delta T to ambient temperature shouldn't really be exceeding 20 or so °C during loads like that

Whatd's the difference between an MVA and TN panels

any recommendations for a monitor? I've got an overclocked 1070, i5 4670k @ 4.2Ghz, 16 GB DDR3 RAM.

currently have a Asus PG248Q that I got for cheap a few years ago but it's starting to shit the bed. is G-Sync really needed with my build? can my setup push 144Hz/1440p?

>what currency are those prices
USD with tax included.

tfw still playing vidya at 1080p 60Hz and won't upgrade until at least next gen

it sucks

Steve Burke suggest otherwise.
youtube.com/watch?v=YmYcKg0x4bw
I'm sorry you want to think anything that isn't a black shoe box can function extremely well.

>Steve Burke
that guy's a fucking idiot. all he does is shill AIOs and straight out lies about its benefits. all his AIO tests are done in 15 min time limits to hide AIO's deficiencies.
guy's a poser who didn't even graduate high school.
and this case is just fucking huge. there's nothing in it that's "optimized".
if you want to know why GN is recommending it, look at who's name is attached to it... Steve's buddy.
