Coding

Hey Jow Forumsuys.

I'm a 20 year old computer geek, I build computers, play games, read about all the tech news that comes out. i'm in university for a meme degree that's a waste of time and want to change (PoliSci).

I'm tired of it. I want to stop being a tech consumer, and become a creator. Specifically in software. The problem is, is that I have no idea where to start. Everything looks so complicated. Which language should I learn? What's the best way to learn it without being too technical (at least at first)?

I would appreciate any good pointers. I know this is really basic shit, but I really have no idea where to start and I'm running low on time.

What do?

Sorry dude, you're too late to the game. You had to have been coding as a teen to have any chance at being a good coder. Better luck next time.

Python is the easiest to learn.

Download from python.org, then go to automatetheboringstuffwithpython.com and read the first six chapters. They will teach you pretty much the basics of using python.

Then, when you feel ready, you go to practicepython.org and take up the challenges as you get better. They start off pretty simple, but quickly become challenging rather fast, and it's to learn from projects rather than just following some youtube tut and typing the same code as the teacher.

This has gotten me started in my coding career, and it can be done within a few weeks or a month to get to my level (which is not a lot).

age has nothing to do with it, u just need the will to learn it, to sit down and push through the SUCK stage that comes with learning anything, where no matter how much you seem to try, you're not getting it. You will move through that stage if you continue with coding. Simple as.

Hmmm okay, I'll check that out. Do you think Python will go out of date or something any time soon? This question might sound dumb forgive me lmao

Python is a meme language.

it wont

I'm in a similar position.

I'm watching CS50 on youtube which is great.

drop and join a CS or EE course.
Until then learn math and logic.

Yeah that's part of the plan. I'm taking a couple math courses and ECON next semester, along with logic courses.

What sucks is that I have to retake some high school math courses (calc and vectors, adv functions etc) to even get accepted

>"""""Computer geek"""""
>Doesn't know programming
You're no geek boy.

>I'm watching CS50 on youtube which is great.

Didn't know it, looks interesting

that's why you need to focus on that and get accepted, programming can wait. Do a ton of math and trigonometry review and what have you.

Good point. I think I'm getting ahead of myself, haha.

Read C Primer Plus

I was going to be mean, but I'll actually help you. Stop referring to yourself as a gel if you want people to take you seriously. Stop saying coding, it's an absolutely pajeet klossy tier to refer to the art of writing computer programs.

This was made by an user from /prog/ over at 7+1chan. He's been working on it since 2015 (the original post is stickied). Trust me when I say your life will benefit from sitting down, turning off distractions, and working on this material. I was in the same situation 2 years ago, user. It'll change your life.

Also, install Gentoo GNU/Linux and stop playing video games.

Is 24 too old to learn how to code/program

as a *geek

I forgot to mention, the majority of material I linked to is textbooks, there are some online courses but you should really supplement them with textbooks. YouTube tutorials are for pajeet brainlets - textbooks are the bigbrained path to knowledge. Please check out the /sci/ wiki and Jow Forums wiki for some textbook recommendations as well. Godspeed, user.

Also, read more and stop watching porn.

There's no such thing as too old. I recommend to you the same course and suggestions I recommend to the OP. Anybody can learn this material, it doesn't matter if you're still in high school or if you're a >30 year old boomer

>stop watching porn.
Well then I guess coding is not for me

Enjoy wasting your precious time and energy jerking off to (((blacked))) instead of educating yourself and finding a blonde blue-eyed wife, cuck.
