HookTube now only serves YouTube embeds so I'm making a fix, again. It requests a "watch?v=XXX" page from Invidious (invidio.us, open-source) and extracts the video format data, then from there those formats can be played directly through the native browser player. I know I could just use Invidious itself but I prefer HookTube and Invidious is heavier on my shitty laptop so I'm making this primarily for my own needs. I also don't like change.
So far it adds back all watching abilities including quality selection. There's no preferences management yet so if you want to stop it reverting to a YT embed if it fails to connect to a direct source, or if you want to stop videos playing automatically just change the settings in the code for now.

Ich glaube nicht, dass mein Deutsch gut genug ist um in deutschen nicht existierende Ausdrucksweisen zu übersetzen aber wie fühlt es sich an von Türken überrannt zu werden während das eigene Volk am Aussterben ist?

Why not just copy/fork invidious code and design a lighter frontend?

Because I'm not good at this stuff and I don't understand much about it. I'm just a pleb, not a programmer. I had a problem to fix so I fixed it so I don't see any need in doing more work than I must. I made it for me, I'm just sharing it as an afterthought, so doing what you suggest would be overkill.
>I've been using Youtubedl since forever... might write a Qt wrapper for it to make it a real client... if I ever get off my ass and do it, I'll consider adding this as a option
