Didn't read. Let's have a guessing game: Is it about Valve having random infights and not getting shit done besides adding more useless crap to steam?

Did not read. Half-Life 3 unconfirmed?

>pastebin.com/AGAjD2Jf
After skimming it, is it about murricans being cucked by megacorps.
And they said multimonitor setups are a meme.

>pastebin.com/AGAjD2Jf
Good advise, thanks for sharing. Everyone who is going or works for a big company should take a look at this

tl;dr americans are completely fucked up in their heads

What an awful way to convince the public you're right. That fucking novel is way too long.

You need to boil it down to 2, maybe 3 paragraphs at most. The dude might be super smart, I don't even know, but he's an idiot for having such a long-winded response.

Your ideas are not all that counts. In fact, they're the least important part of the equation. The number one factor is how you communicate them.

>gabe would often come over to my desk eating something that would spill a lot of crumbs and just lean over my shoulder watching me work
>he would tell me alternatives which were always worse
>one time I was looping over an array and he demanded I type out every index individually
>I tried to explain that my way was better and he threw his bagel at me and demanded I get him a new one
>when I got back he had removed every array in the game engine and replaced them with thousands single variables

Kek

Gabe is an ex-Microsoft employee after all.
its in his blood to make things inefficient

you got me good

Of course they treat you like a dog. Corps OWN you, bitch. Don't like the heat get out of the kitchen.

will read later, but what do valve employees even do? draw hats all day?

vr stuff

>what does a game company do

>valve
>game company

maybe 10 years ago

Valve isn't a game company.

>intentionally use an old, tiny monitor with bad viewing angles as my second monitor
>always keep a text editor with code up on the main monitor
>nobody can tell that I'm shitposting 90% of the day on the smaller monitor

Attached: 27f.png (1000x1000, 468K)

Is this suppose to be anonymous? I know exactly who wrote that (brilliant guy, too).

I don't get it.
>Employer demands job being done in particular way.
>Employee throws a hissy fit.
>Employer fixes the shit himself.
How is Gabe in the wrong here?

I posted the twitter link immediately after you idiot

ah that explains it

I saw Gaben at a grocery store in Seattle yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

No shit, chill

>draw hats all day?
Where can I apply for this?

you don't apply for it, the community submits hat designs for free now.

By stomping his employee and choosing a significantly less efficient solution.

test

These two posts go hand in hand, made me chuckle

This exact scenario happened to someone else with bill murray

The ability the change the colors in steam when? steam not matching my rice tickles my autism

who cares?
paid digital distribution shouldn't be paid for.
I stopped paying for games when Steam got popular

That feature has been around for years. It's in settings under interface.

what's this guys twitter? I want to follow more rants.

Jesus this contains a ton of truth but the document reads like the stream of consciousness from an extremely broken man. He goes over the same things over and over again, sometimes making bizarre contradictions. I love the line about trauma bonding. He ironically appears to be trauma bonded to self organization.

>People use their PC in ways I don't

And now I know why it reads so fuckedly. It's a pastebin of a twitter feed.

You have to be mentally ill to give money to Steam with how easy piracy is.

>What an awful way to convince the public you're right. That fucking novel is way too long.

Right about what? He didn't even describe his agenda.

This just looks like an advice dump that literally would fill a book, but the guy wasn't interest in writing one and you can actually finish reading this in under an hour. It's efficient

What are your reactions after reading this? It makes me want to abandon everything and build a cabin in the woods. Technology was a mistake.

Capitalizm bro!! At lest we dont not communist Marxist leninst socialists like europooreans.

Some of the stuff is really scary like abusing the fact that you have debt. Extorting by withholding bonuses. Trying to gain an edge over you through by gathering information from your spouse.

So the mood in corporate environments / white collar west is combative and hyper-competitive. Is there any sense of cooperation and harmony to balance this out?

Makes me want to know if this level of competition in life produces personal satisfaction or just misery.

Glassdoor reviews seem to be echoing the twitter rant. I thought glassdoor was supposed to be inaccurate?

tl;dr version: Marx was right about capitalism.

Enjoy starving.

This is embarrassing to read desu. Was this is first real job?

do you think government agencies and companies are not shit working environments too. Humans are just annoying by nature.

yeah, it's a pasta

>25 years of experience in the industry

Also confirms the naivety of the 'just git gud' approach. You need to do more than just that unless you want to be bounced around by everyone. The advice given is very clear headed and cynical, it makes sense. I don't think there is much to lose following it.
Some of the advice is obvious like make friends with the right people and self promote but it's nice to see it confirmed again.

must read for people who want to survive in tech worker corporate bureaucracy
would read again/10

You can use it without spending a dime

"Murrikans really are psychopaths"

Not the guy who wrote this. He sounds like a teenager learning how the world works for the first time.

Now youtube too

i want devs i like to make more games tbqh

Nobody cares about any of this. All we care about is the status and general atmosphere regarding L4D3, HL3, and Source 2 dev tools.
>inb4 source 2 dota tools
that is a meme. We want a modern replacement for hammer.

Orangebox was 2007

>I hate people
Stop browsing Jow Forums.

>L4D3
vaporware
>HL3
vaporware
>source 2 dev tools
I don't know, probably vaporware

>All we care about is some shit games
Return to /v/ please. Also if you read the pasta you see why they aren't happening is because the place is loaded down with politicking.

I don't, I'd immediately kill myself if I did

is this why video games arent fun anymore

or is that because im 24

There is nothing interesting about valve other than what I listed. Steam is just going to add more shit to it, VR won't be affordable until we get foveated rendering, and we already knew the work ethic at valve is poor from other reports.

I have never browsed /v/

>dude big tech companies are cancer and generally full of enormous egos, backstabbing, financial trickery, bullying, insane politics, and comical levels of hypocrisy

wow how enlightening, I would have never guessed

Wow is THAT what's it's like to be a pro programmer?
I just want to make things, not kiss ass and talk to psychos.

Found something he talked about in his tweets.

>Related: You need a powerful “Sponsor” or “Baron” to back you. Figure out what they want and like. Watch or read “Hunger Games”. Once you get to this level you are almost untouchable.

user, you are the psycho

>Another employment tip: Have friends outside your company. Don’t turn your company into a “Corporate Tribe”. It’ll help you get perspective which is extremely valuable.

Who the fuck would be that stupid to believe a company is your family? Unless you are a fucking lonely idiot there is no reason to be this gulible.

>Don’t work for free on a project, even if they sometimes pay you. The minute you start working for free you have devalued your time and your average pay will be less overall.

This isn't even legal. If you're employed by a company, they have to pay you for your time.

>people act friendly
>they don't want to be your friend
I know it's obvious but it's still dumb. I hate people.

huh?

Legality is sometimes ignored under a labour surplus.

Volunteering is legal. And on the other side of things salaried employees aren't paid based on their time.

employment has been this way for much of human history, who would have thought spending your time all day with the same people turns them into your de facto family when you've invested all your efforts into your team with them. the military is like this, many trades are like this, the entire country of japan is like this.

if anything, being forced to work for money with a bunch of people AND remaining completely personally alienated from them is a second level of corporate sociopathy for everyone involved. humans psychology didn't develop for this

You think so, but Gabe thinks otherwise

> 2007 was 11 years ago

I wish the company depicted in the manual would exist.

He wouldn't have said this had he been a salaried employee. If pay had not been agreed upon ahead of time, he shouldn't have even done the work.

pathetic loser

What's the original? First time I saw it was in 2013 or 2014 I think with Flying Lotus

Many of the tech companies I do work for really try and hammer work-life integration, not work life balance.
Look at google as one example and how they function you can do laundry, sleep, eat, and play games there. It's what they want
and what employees accept. If you don't do these activities with your coworkers you'll slowly be ostracized
it sucks, but that's just the way things are headed.

Attached: 1413035796321s.jpg (125x125, 4K)

Gaben is a libfag cunt

>I came in one day and my coworker (let’s call him Bob) disappeared, his desk wheeled into the hall to be picked clean. “Where did Bob go?” I asked. I got replies like “Bob who?” or “don’t talk about Bob”. I realized then that I had no idea what I had got myself into.
lmao

This dude basicaly learned how to become an adult. Everything he talks about happens everywhere in every job. When I was 18 and only worked as a mailer saw all that happen in a spam of a year.

Tl dr: the guy worked in the most vile conditions and suffered underhanded business practices, and developed a Stockholm syndrome for it.
