Gnu/Linux has progressed so far but still we don't have an open source replacement for android?? Is it really hard to build a stable mobile Os which can handle calls, browsing the internet, messaging and all those normal stuffs?? Why not Jow Forums gather together to make a stable mobile OS??

alright let's get this shit started Jow Forumsoys
i'll make the logo

Android itself is open source. You don't really need proprietary apps if you install a custom OS such as Lineage.

Android is open source though. You can also get MicroG setup in a Lineage OS install so as to make use of the location and push notification feature(Which is really the only thing gapps is needed for).
Of course most of the open source apps are pretty inferior to their proprietary alternatives like always.

PureOS.
Also various android roms.

You're right in way I guess, but who is gonna be the one to start writing an OS for mobile devices?
It would be really awesome if you guys decided to do something like that. Hell you may even be able to get some funding for it or something in the future.

LineageOS

ubuntu touch?

They gave up on it

The smartphone market is totally a monopoly of android and ios. Besides android and ios are for ignorant gen-z fucks who don't know anything about the power of computers. Atleast if we try making a smartphone os, we would have a decent non-childish os we all could use

I am busy for a few months due to my uni. I will start it after a few months. Will post update here. Lets see if we could get something fruitful from Jow Forums

What apps do you possibly need? You have clover, amaze, and Firefox/chromium. 99% of things are accessible through the web

Make a telegram group chat and invite those interested

Man that home screen looks like shit.

>a decent non-childish os
Like what? What is it that you want and can't be provided by android/ios?

just use lineageOS

Unfortunately LingeageOS uses some proprietary software, and has plenty of dem blobs
I think you're forgetting Replicant. Fully open source with (almost) no blobs. It's literally just the Android Open Source Project on a phone. The reason it can't get ported to a bunch of devices is the drivers for most phones don't have any open source alternatives.

There's some good projects out there for this though. postmarketOS is kind of cool.

The real project I'm waiting for is the Purism Librem 5. They're making new hardware and writing new applications for a true GNU/Linux mobile environment. Multiple DEs are already being developed for it, and UBPorts has been hard at work to have Ubuntu Touch working on it. I seriously recommend checking this out and either backing it soon or picking one up when it comes out.

Active projects: Plasma Mobile, SailfishOS, PureOS, LineageOS
Buy Librem 5

Sailfish OS!

Fuck you. I already made the logo

The reason no one bothers with it is because smartphones are generally useless to Jow Forumsents or anyone with any decent knowledge on computers.
Some tried but smartphones are a duct tape orgy of gimmicks and bloatware. Even if you change the bloat, you're still stuck with an experience inferior to larger devices, solely because of garbage user interface, screen size and handling (not to mention 99% of the "apps" are written by complete tards who cant optimize for shit)
Tl;dr nothing can save phones from their shittyness.
