I don't really know much about uni reputation, but i plan on studying se in paderborn. Hasso Plattner is too far off from me anyways
Isn't Paderborn itself a meme?
Sie sind gay
Die Unis inklusive uns?

If you want to get useful skills move to Hungary.
It's shit.
t. overlord from RWTH Aachen
New to this board.
Is there a general consensus about german universities for computer science? As in something like a ranking?
As a non european the only german uni that is relevant is ETH but I’m sure any major city uni is at least decent.
ETH isn't german though
I can't afford switzerland
Idk Dresden or Munich I guess since those are apparently based german cities?
Any good Berlin based uni in your opinion?
Munich (One of the two major unis there) would be my first pick anyways, Im very close to Munich. Also heard good things about RWTH Aachen for CS.
What would you suggest for someone who lives near Lueneburg (50km of Hamburg).
Because I fear that the cost of living is too high in Hamburg
TUB gets a pass, but imo it depends on what you want to focus on - it's important to specialize already during BSc, preferably in some company.
I know plenty of people who got stupidly good positions thanks to that (positions that are usually given to 10+ years veterans), unlike an average shitter that just goes to uni for diploma and expects that the whole world is going to worship him because of it.
So you'd want to pick uni that's actively researching the specific area of your interest - for me that was static analysis and RWTH Aachen has world-class group researching it and plenty of companies to collab with.
Munich (TUM), Karlsruhe or RWTH Aachen
Why not just go to amerika?
Any with a focus in cyber security?
(I don't know the correct terms)
UFF DA LÜNEBUR-GAH HAAAAAAIDE
STEEHT DIE BOMMELE BUMMALA FRIEDELINE!!!
Move to Denmark. Aarhus has the 4th best university in the world.
If I wanted third world healthcare and crippling student debt I would stay in my country.
Besides unstable governments are bad for business :^)
Idk man, moving countries for a University sounds a bit drastic for such a pussy like me
4th best related to cs?
Also I dont know if you have to pay for university in Denmark etc
If you're a EU citizen then they pay you to study. I'm paid 1,8k euro a month.
What uni?
Wow is that true for any discipline or just for those more in demand, and what about non-eu citizens?
Also I checked and it seems like they offer stuff like a bachelor in computer science only in danish?
Aarhus university in Denmark I think
a month? thats more than what an engineer with experience makes here (also EU)
Since when does paderborn have a dedicated se course?
You need to do your own research, i know nothing about cyber security research apart from Edinburgh being god-tier and the new-ish Norwegian institute catching up.
For cybersecurity go to Tallinn Uni, Estonia. It has the advantage of being cheap too.
Don't go to Münich at least. The cost of living there is significantly higher than even Hamburg.
I was working there for 10 months, living in a 30+ square meter single-room apartment, and in the end moved out. My living standard has since improved.
Have you considered uni-Erlangen? You can live cheap in Nürnberg and bike or take public to Erlangen.
I will look into it but I'll still have to present the idea of moving a bit more fat away to my parents. I feel like they wouldn't want it and I know that I will have to live on my own but in the end they're probably going to financially support me and I would feel a bit "unverschämt" if I would take them completely out of my decision process
Can kind of understand that even though I was never that kind of close to my parents it would have been an issue (or, heaven knows, gotten financial support). If you have good relations with your folks, it pays to uphold them.
But, in any case. My years in NUE-ER area were, without question the best years in my life. I can't talk about the university per se, because I moved there for work too, but it's seriously one of the comfiest places in the world to live, and I've lived in many places.
Many of the people I was working with had actually attended the university also spoke highly of it, I'd recommend at least checking them out.
The thing is the relation between me and my parents is pretty one sided, they're from slavland which means they expect me to really close to my family and think our customs are far better than germans etc, well I grew up here and simply don't feel that way. They probably think our relation is great but if I had the opportunity and wouldn't feel like I owe them something I would most certainly fuck off as fast as I can.
But it seems like they expect me to study in hamburg, they always refer to this family were friends with and their oldest son who's studying in Hamburg and living at home with his parents.
But I will definetly inform myself a bit more about that area, thank you man.
No problem man, have a good one.
