How many is too many?

I don't get why "gamers" are so extream about wifi. like I understand if your some hardcore switch or DS or Vita player but I doubt many of them actually exist. every thing els has a Ethanet port just use that with a good quality cable and get 100% optimal.

Any serious gamer won’t use WiFi

I'm half expecting someone to take one of those apart and discover only two antennas are connected

That's already too many for home use.
The extra antennas are used for extra networks operating on different channels.
For example to have a guest network and an employees network which don't take bandwidth from each other.

It's not a gaming router.
It's for big offices.

That's not even the gamer (ROG) version

What kind of spider is this?

3 is too many

>lots of antenna and angular design makes it a gamer product

just end yourself.

If you read the marketing copy, it's clearly aimed at gaymers

Is there any reason to buy something like this over a stock router if you're using ethernet either way

>Is there any reason to buy something like this
No.

of course, if you want something that powerful as a consumer most of the time it's going to be for a gamer. If you don't want gamer marketing, pay up for the pro level gear.

The same exact model router has a ROG version which is the true gaymer oriented product. pic related

Depends, it has a much more powerful CPU than most routers, though you can buy powerful routers that don't do wifi as well, they tend to be pro level gear and cost more because of the warranty and support being provided.

For consumer products the CPU + RAM in these high end routers tend to be pretty damn good for the price when compared to similarly powerful pro level routers that don't have wifi, so for a consumer, unless you need the pro level features or support, the consumer router can be a decent option, even if you don't plan on using the wifi aspects.

why would I need a powerful CPU on my router, though?

It appears to be a female Redback.

It reminds me of the Ring wraiths surrounding frodo

Well if you have gigabit WAN you need a decent CPU for WAN/LAN throughput.
If you want to run a VPN on your router (offloading it from your computer) your router needs a decent CPU for VPN throughput.

Kek I can't unsee this now

Cute ESL skills

so you can install gentoo

how else would the botnet run itself?

My 868l died today, need a new one with many aerials any recommendations? Budget $200, looking at a linksys wrt32x any opinions?

NAT

Though most routers have proprietary chips that accelerate it, if you run custom firmware on an older router you cant get good speed.

wait for ax router

The other "antennae" are detachable dildos for the buyer to shove up their ass when buyers remorse sets in.

Guys, hear me out.

What if we surround the router with... FRACTAL ANTENNAE?

It's coming right for us!

BEHOLD THIS POST MODERN MASTERPIECE

this

I need to order one today

wire your computer directly into the modem

Everything I can hardwire fine, just need WiFi for phones, tablets, Nest etc

well, the router in the OP is on sale for $240

Ok thanks

i wonder what the antenna radiation pattern looks like on that shit. probably lots of destructive interference between the antennas.

It's seriously aimed at gamers it says it on the box

No, it has marketing that mentions gaming because any consumer router at that price point is also going to be good for gaming, they might as well market it.

The SAME router has a gaming version, the RT-AC5300 is the standard, the GT-AC5300 is the gaming version.

Just because the normal version has gamer marketing doesn't mean it's a gamer product.

all of them +1

Allright...

i would unironically buy that

A dead one

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it

highspeed wifi is for streaming vrporn from my nas to my phone

Such a huge difference between the two

Tbh this. Anyone who cares about playing games online will hardwire, even if they have to run the wire themselves.

REPUBLIC OF GAMERS haha us GAMERS am I right guys?

Edge-router x sfp + AP Lite, $130 and banging performance.

It doesn't need to be that powerful to route gigabit.

VPN is usually offloaded to a crypto processor.

Any halfway decent CPU can do gigabit NAT. HW NAT was just a shitty stopgap solution.

Why don't they just use higher quality and better ranged antennas?

>VPN is usually offloaded to a crypto processor.
Nigger, you've got no idea what you're talking about.

You don't get offload encryption ASICs in consumer routing gear.

Mine does, but even then a lot of CPUs have them built in nowadays.

Battlestation threads on r/vidya.

yeah, and the ones built into the higher end faster CPUs are better than the ones in the slower lower powered CPUs.
The fact is these routers have good CPUs that provide more throughput than their lower end counter parts.

Funny guy.

What I came here to say.
