interesting question you know how windows forces updates recently I turned of updates in command line because I overclock my mouse with this odd driver (its now fixed for 1803) sweetlow driver on overclock.net if any one interested but it forced the update anyway maybe a month after I stopped it in command line.
why do they do this is it actually for security or do they have some other motive? to stop every one stopping on one version and some one els taking over the IP and development 3rd party? just wondering as I doubt many would do what I did to stop it.

NASA use VxWorks for their rovers. VxWorks is a commercial product made by a private company.
And yes, making a full-blown kernel to drive a modern OS from scratch is an enormous amount of work.

I'm serious, prove me wrong. All you need is a program that, upon start (I'll even let you use grub to boot to it) can manage memory and cpu rings and disk storage (use a floppy with FAT-16) effectively to run 2 separate programs, switching between each whenever the user presses a button.

I'm great at marketing, I've gotten formal education and have industry experience in branding. I definitely can come up with a better name and brand than most tech anythings have.
I think this would be absolutely key to making this operating system actually happen. And we need it ASAP. Because this is a social website. Brands are about that social. All those dissenting people? A good brand will answer their questions, ideally without them even needing to ask them. It will convince people to join the project. A good brand will keep our development in line.
I'd argue a good brand is about all we need, direction-wise. Let the anons build what they build, but we will need a unified set of values, goals, etc.
So basically, we need a good brand ASAP. To build that, I need you all to tell me what you want this thing to be. How should it feel? I realize that's a strange question but, what should the user experience be? That's the baseline "outcome" of everything else. You define how it should be used and how it should 'feel'...
One immediate idea I'm having is to ingrain troll culture into the very OS. It needs to be intentionally set up to where any newfags who use it we will be able to very easily get them to destroy their whole system. Ideally doing as much damage as possible. Newfag-proof, essentially. But do so in a way that doesn't destroy it's functionality, security, etc.

Why? I don't want to shut doors just yet but, why would you just decide the entire thing must be built from scratch without clear reasoning. You never want to build anything from scratch unless you have to. It's wasting manpower. And from a branding perspective...
I could see modifying things to the point that software can't just be ported over easily. We could even have no wiki or commonly stored place as to how to port software, so that you will have to quite literally Lurk Moar. This gets into the realm of making sure it can only be used the way it's supposed to. Disabling features just for that purpose is crap but I'm sure we could make optimization improvements and good design decisions that cause this.
Immediate thought - Imagine an OS with no formal documentation website? The entire thing is 'chan-based? Eventually making it's own board or the like. Maybe even a tor chan instead (or both?).

before we have evaluation threads, full of people asking "how" - we first need to just talk about "what". A good brainstorm is independent of evaluation. That's a separate conversation with a separate mindset. You best come up with ideas when you let yourself be creative and stop questioning everything.
We could create a thread like this. "reply to ideas you support. And supply your own ideas. We will record all ideas, and rank them by number of replies. Each thread we will repost the ideas in rank order."

that's the big problem. There needs to be people in charge. And people to write up tickets, so the few devs you're actually able to convince to help you can implement specific things that are within their capability, instead of just saying come write some code. I unironically would be willing to help, but I'm not a genius, and I don't know nearly enough to write my own os. But I'm certainly capable of creating specific modules in some areas.
