Comfy note taking thread.
How does Jow Forums stay organized?

Pen and paper fags welcome

MS Onenote.

I use org-mode with inline images enabled to basically maintain a personal wiki.

Solid choice. How do you sync everything though? Did you buy more space on onedrive?

>personal wiki
how is that effective?

standard notes for text-only notes, typically 'private' won't ever be shared
onenote for notes i may publish in the future, generally notes i study from
although I'm trying out Dropbox Paper and the editor is just so nice and simple I may make that my default public tool

>how is that effective
org mode is fucking magic
also by exporting to ICalendar I can have it in my phone too.

>How do you sync everything though?
I don't, just use my pic related as a notepad/notebook.
There's no need for syncing when i carry my x61t everywhere.

Standard notes is really good. Its very bare bones though even with the premium features.

Can you get on windows 10 or is it linux only? Also can you sync it across devices?

>keep for personal todos/reminders
>bitwarden for passwords and important shit
>notebook for everything else

Comfiest setup

I don't use the premium features, I don't care for the different styling and stuff. It's just a place to keep all of my text notes without them being in the hands of a massive corporation. Could probably get by without using them if you just encrypt your text files and keep them organized in a folder yourself.

you can get it on any platform. since it's file-based, you can also sync it to any device easily.

I use txt files with descriptive file names sorted by topics in a big folder structure. Notes written by hand is scanned with a canon duplex document scanner. It works but there are stuff in there that are 15 years now. I used OneNote for a while but that's too locked down for me. On my phone I have a simple notepad app, I mail the text yo my self when I need to export it. Help me.

Try
Its basically free txt file syncing thats also encrypted.

Looks good.

WTF is that? There is no title bar to indicate any name.

Its very good. Syncing works great. i used it for for a while before going to back to google keep cause i missed the reminder and task list functions.

Fuck off summer fag

i used to have a personal blog + podcast i would post in almost every day. but because of how easy it is (how fast i can type and talk) to use, it wasn't very organized and was full of ramblings and more of a stream of consciousness than it was an actual journal.
now, i have several journals. the ones where its paper and you have to write in it with a pen.
its very soothing to just take the time once a week to do some thinking and write in it.
for random obtrusive thoughts that pop in and out, i alt tab into notepad++ (or colornote on my phone) and type it in quick for me to dismiss or go further with it in the future
for projects that i'm working on personally, i use post-it notes on the wall/board

This sounds incredibly unorganized. Dont see how it could be helpful.

I don't really need to sync mine though, I carry around a copy on a usb stick. But I would like to be able to search within them, ideally with a regex search, as well as have a better way to organize them. I'm not sure if any software can add enough usability to beat the simplicity of txt files in folders.

Sauce?

Google Keep can kiss my ass. A fucking list keeper with no sort functionality? It baffles the mind that people use these abandoned beta projects just because Google's name is on them.

the post-its on the wall get thrown away as i finish parts of the project
different sections of my walls/rooms are separated for different projects
my notepad gets purged regularly and my weekly journal helps me keep track of important things
its really taught me to be more organized by discarding and throwing away useless and unimportant things which allow me to focus on more important things better. the weekly journal entry helps me prioritize the important things. every minute you spend planning, saves 10 minutes of time.
helps me get a handle on the erratic thoughts i sometimes have too.

Post its are my nemesis. They keep acumulating.

Nextcloud notes for sync and omninotes for other shih

one thing that helped me with accumulating post-its & procrastination was the thought process of:
if its something that you can do right now in a few minutes, do it now.

Hello, can you give me some advice on what tablet should I chose for handriting tasks, Im looking for something on budget, so it would cost 100-130 USD, preferably with a large/medium sized screen (8-10 inches).

Which factors should I take in consideration for a handriting e-tablet? Ram of course is one of that, but screen resolution too?

Also, how RAM swapping with TF-card memory does work on handwritting? Does it actually reduce the lag?

Thanks.

notion.so

What do you mean by sort? It has a search feature, tagging, and you can physically move them around

Can you guys seriously not read file names?

tyvm. just what i was looking for.

I want to like digital note taking solutions but having my notes tied to a device is irritating and clumsy to use even in the best of circumstances. Pen and paper is maximum

wow, surprisingly interesting thread..Probably will end trying some of these up.

Does Standard Notes support:
* tags (or folders at least), seems so from pictures
* markdown
* math equations (mathjax etc.)

It's nice when You can edit on phone. Usually when I go to bed something comes up etc. You, know, just in a moment write down a keyword and it's easier later on. Even on public transport.
I also prefer pencil&paper when in front of PC. Though it is kinda rare in my office - only 1 person besides me has their notebook

I'll stick to paper and pen with GNU Nano thanks.

For the longest time, I carried around a Palm T|X as my notepad, even after it stopped being useful for anything else. Around 2014, when the Palm's battery died for the second time and I couldn't track down a decent replacement, I briefly used Evernote for BB10 OS, before moving to the default note-taking app on iOS, which is alright. But the Palm post-it note application was the comfiest and most convenient.

Unless you're talking about class notes, in which case it's MS Word all the way.

when that breaks?? or gets stolen

It supports tags.
It also supports markdown and bubch of other bells and whistles if you pay for premium. Nothing complicated like math equations though.

If you want something free with markdown suplort check out simplennotes. It doesnt encrypt data like standard notes does though.

Dropbox paper would probably be better for that, it supports markdown exports, tags/folders, and latex (start by typing $$ and then when you hit enter it'll properly fill out). It's also gorgeous and has much better image support.
Just don't save any private files, but if all you're going to be doing is taking lecture notes or whatever then it's perfect.

Is dropbox papaer really any good?
Should i switch from google keep?

You think windows is best for this or is staying with Linux okay? What programs would I use?

Think of dropbox like a more specific google docs scenario, where it's great for actually creating breathing documents (it's where I keep all my blogposts before publishing, any lecture notes I might share, any documentation for software, etc). It's not great if all you want in a note-taking platform is just quick notes and shopping lists.

Oh and if you need something even beefier than dropbox paper, Notion is a godsend.

>when that breaks??
Repairing an old ThinkPad is incredibly easy and there are plenty of spare parts.
>or gets stolen
I doubt someone would want to steal an 11 year old laptop but i have weekly images of the drive saved in my NAS anyway, same with my desktop.

I don't use Linux so no idea, just the ol' W7 + MS Onenote 2013.

Google Keep is the best fucking thing for me.

wish I could take orgmode with me on my phone.

Been using keep since the very beginning, very convinient

I like material notes but the widget lacks functionality I want, being able to just check an entry from the homescreen without opening the app. I often do lists for what I need to buy, groceries and such and then it's a comfy feature but I only found it in Wunderlist. I know it's botnet but it's the only one I know that works like I want it to.

small notepad and 4-colors bic pen.
Also use "Just notes" on android (FOSS notes app)

vim and some text files, but an important part of the workflow is that
it's in a tmux session running on a server in my basement, so I can
connect to it via ssh to take notes from any other computer or my phone.

Pen & Paper, using the cat command to pipe text into a TXT file on my work computer, Apple Notes (which sync across iCloud to my iPad Pro and MacBook Pro), and post-it's (for physical mind maps).

Funny you mention a blog. I often have one or two people on IRC that I kind of spam with stream-of-consciousness. I tried to make a diary text file, but it feels less automatic and natural, and I miss the automated timestamps of IRC. I've been wondering if I should try to somehow integrate a diary into my IRC client. Something that'll print a line saying the date at midnight every day, plus the timestamp down to the second for each message. It's nice to look back at. I've been manually putting timestamps in my diary text file, but it's the time at the start of my typing instead of at the end, so I can't look back at stuff like how long it took me to type something or how long I was away from the file.

Try orgzly if you have Android

Seems good.
How do I sync everything between devices?

fpbp

I use Keep because it's really simple and it works fine, I honestly can't understand why anyone would use anything else.

Well cause on Jow Forums its proprietary and run by jewgle. But honestly its features are unmatched and I have you to find a better FOSS alternative.
I do have some issues syncing between my phone and desktop though.

I get the privacy concerns, but honestly, for the purposes I use it for I don't give a fuck. I really doubt there is a FOSS alternative that is even close. Can't say I've had syncing issues, sorry to hear that.

Same. I only use Keep for reminders and todo lists. I really dont care about that information. Sensitive notes and passwords get stored in bitwarden.

fuck off newfag

If someone know of a better note widget, hit me up.
I tried Google note but I don't want a bulletin, check mark list. Only plain text editing.

Evernote

Omni Notes. Available on F-Droid.

Google keep but it's quite shitty to be honest.

>keep
>bitwarden
That's it
