Why would anyone get a CS degree over a math degree?

Why would anyone get a CS degree over a math degree?

The only time I would hire a person with a CS degree is if it was a msc in CS and he had a BS in math.

Why not both?

How much are you paying? What company do you work for? Google? Facebook? Netflix? Why should I give a shit who you would hire?

Read the second line.

Diluting your math foundation in your undergrad with stuff you should have picked up as a teenager is a waste of time.

If you didn't get it as a teenager then you should spend your free time preparing for your msc in CS

That's cool
If my company did software for clients (instead of for in house) then I'd want someone with a CS degree

I'd want someone who could program and do it efficiently instead of someone who doodles proofs all day and took a YouTube python course

biofags have to learn how to program
physicists learn how to program
mathfags learn how to program
CS spend 4 years learning how to program

Meet your deskmate, his name is pajeet.

Biofags have to learn how to write
Mechanic fags have to learn how to write
Gender studies fags have to learn how to write

I still wouldn't hire any of them to write an in-depth story

maybe /sci/ might be better suited but what books would you recommend for advancing my math skills?

Introduction to graph theory (Trudeau) is a good start if you have never done proof math.

please do not post my wife
thanks

If you're actually in the position to hire someone at the place you work you're probably at least 27 years old yet you start posts off with a fucking anime pic which means there's a 95% chance you're a fucking pedophile and I wouldn't want to work for you anyways.

There is literally nothing wrong with being a pedophile.

26 and I only posted the anime pic since I knew you faggots like that shit

what you hate children?
Well I wouldn't want to employ you anyways

>get math degree
>flip burgers

every math major ive ever met has been a shitty programmer. granted plenty of shit CS programmers, but it's 100% with the math majors. EE and CE too. I guess they think since they are "superior" to CS brainlets they don't ever have to learn clean coding styles, proper design and architecture, etc...

I got a CS bachelor’s with a stats minor and am doing just fine. Just go to an actually prestigious school instead of Statename State University, and work your ass off to get good internships. Do these things and you’ll get hired regardless of degree into a good job.
If you’re too retarded to do all of these things, forgo college all together and go into a trade.

I've done bachelor's in maths and also in computer science. CS is probably a slightly lower standard on average but both subjects are shit at a shit university anyway.

...what? Are you ... why. I realize I shouldn't even reply but, I have to give credit for this. It's some quality b8

>post pic of shooter game
>there's a 95% chance you're a murderer

Only the last of those 4 occupations you listed learns how to write remotely maintainable code

Python is scripting not programming. They spend four years never using a bracket. Do you call that programming?

Because a BS in CS will get you hired.

As a code monkey yes
Mathfags with proper grades get recruited to be quints

A well paid monkey.
Most mathfags become high school teachers.

People who program without any idea how a computer works is what made our world go to shit with a new hip js framework every week and electron fucking everywhere.

is Jow Forums all murderers because they post pictures of guns? have you even watched an anime retard?
this has to be some kind of bait

>Why would anyone get a CS degree over a math degree?

Because they are brainlets.

This

OP is not now, nor will he EVER be, in a position to hire

Most CompSci students are too stupid for actual mathematics.

>call people pedo
>guaranteed replies

The only person you hire is that 50yr old escort you visit to remove the satan juice from your diabetes type 2 nerve damaged, flaccid penis.

You live in your step father's cellar.

Stop fucking pretending you matter, get a job and become a worthwhile member of society.

Now fuck off.

The best programmers in my experience were those with physics degrees.

Wow someone's pride got hurt.

Depends. If you need a lot of simulation stuff yes. Otherwise programmer. Unless you are doing something with encryption or hashing and need to be able to create a proof for the algorithm to show it works. Then a math major. Anything else CS all the way unless you are doing embedded systems or low level development, then get an EE. Add in a domain expert for whatever you are making when applicable and you are set. EE+phys+math+many cs+domain specialist = all round epic dev team. Still, you want CS to do you core and software design pretty much every time. And they should be writing most of the code. If your project isn't big enough though, it might not Warrent all the supporting roles.

Nah, I'm just sick of the utter shit posted on here.

We should a separate /mitty/ board for the lying fuckwits who infest this place.

"I wouldn't hire....." my arse.

Based, maybe I will get hired after I finished my degree.

Maintainable code is something for people who don't do it right the first time.

I am a mathfag and took a Computer engineering course, what now?

>I guess they think since they are "superior" to CS brainlets they don't ever have to learn clean coding styles, proper design and architecture, etc...
Irrelevant if you don't make mistakes.

>software engineering 4 year BSc from mid tier college, allowed me to work on lots of side projects with all the free time cuz it was easy
>computer science MSc from a prestigious uni

feels good man
