Does Jow Forums turn their computer off?

If not, what's your uptime?

I'm at 33 days.

Yes
>muh UPS and surge protector
It isn't a bad idea to use these but I still unplug mine at the wall when not in use for more than 12 hours or when I'm sleeping and have no ongoing processes.
No surge protector will protect you from a lightning strike, pole downage or other blue moon kind of event that can trash your hardware. Remember to protect your ethernet line as well. They get zapped more than anything.

user stop hibernating to inflate your uptime

What's a computer?

10.5 days on my desktop
26 days on my unifi gear / nas / esxi (moved over to dual fiber on everything about a month ago, causing me to restart).

normally my uptime sits around 150 days. currently my longest is a vps with 137 days, 14:58,

ARM SoC stays on, PC off

Last restart was on patch tuesday. 30 days uptime on average.
nice trips btw

I absolutely hate this "leaving the computer on" trend that has risen in the past few years.
It gets worse when you look at people who enforce this as something hip - NEETs downloading overnight, lazy-ass gamers and miners.
Personally, I'm blaming american resource wasting culture and digital native uneducation as the reason.

you sound fun

33 days too, but its a laptop so meh

Only when I have nothing open and I'm going away for at least an overnight

>4 hours

Give me SOUND reasons about why you should leave your computer on during the night that aren't task-related.
>higher energy costs
>higher temperatures
>higher risk of failing parts
>higher risk of failure by power surge
>more vulnerable to attacks
>more noise during the night
You sure you really want this, user? What are you running in there, a child porn server?

>If not, what's your uptime?
Destop: 52 days.
Everything else : 17 days because I upgraded the kernel 17 days ago.

I have a lot of work and stuff open. I stream some of my animu and movies to my iPad in bed. I sometimes mine on it. The reasons to turn it off are negligible to me.

oh, and forgot to mention downloading and seeding.

19:12:55 up 919 days, 4:17, 1 user, load average: 1.01, 1.10, 1.34

Yes, because I pay for my electricity. I've set up my 2nd PC for 24/7, but it only runs always on when I have large downloads or uploads.

I used to have a 2 Mbit connection until this year, now I have 3-16 Mbit depending on the daytime. So I don't need one month of 24/7 to download a 1080p series.

My regular previously uptime was up to half a month, I restarted then because it sometimes caused issues. My server HTPC boots up in seven seconds so it is avaiable immediately.

Those speeds... I feel for you user. How much are you paying your ISP?

I restart my desktop every morning for no real reason if nothing is running. Otherwise it's always on. Laptop only runs when in use.

>48gb ram
Why does it hurt so much only having 16gb

Because you didn't snatch up some RAM before the prices skyrocketed.

Yeah I'm so conflicted though, I'm still on a ddr3 Mobo. And although it is cheaper I don't want to upgrade to something I can't use later

>seeding

I try not to be a burden to others. When I was younger I only really downloaded and deleted the torrent right after but nowadays I'll seed a bit just because.

Does it fill void inside you?

i don't turn it off
my uptime has barely been making it to a week lately with storms

Price you pay for private tracker quality

if you pay for your own electricity you know that it's probably not even $60 per year for a mostly idle machine though

Yes

Uptime bragging is for small penis sized basedboys.

Are you gonna buy a birthday present

I got a warning from my ISP for seeding once.

>past few years
there has been an uptime subculture in tech pretty much since the 1980s you buzzword spouting zoomer

funny

I turn my computer off every day before I go to sleep

not a phenom idling at 150w
also im from eu 30 eurocent per kwh

My older brother did this in the 90s until 2010s

SSD, so it boots up so fast that there's no real need to keep it on at night unless I'm torrenting or something.

>not paying for VIP account and never seeding plus, supporting tracker
what gay trackers you're using

>being a public tracker cuk

Did you respond to them with racial slurs?

Attached: 1515027125107.png (657x527, 225K)

It was Verizon. If I remember they just made me sign some kind of agreement something about copyright

Haha, you're on the watch list now!
Good luck stealin.. i mean, torrenting anything
FBI will break your door and shoot your cat!

I have 3 machines that stay up constantly. Longest running time was 200+ days. If my cats weren't cable biting assholes, I would leave my laptop plugged in and on 24/7 as well.

This.

it's probably spillover from sysadmins having dickmeasuring contests, but you know, for a sysadmin minding a server, a big uptime is something to be reasonably proud of, or something to be aimed for.

for neet losers shitposting in Jow Forums-datamining threads it's useless garbage. (It also unduly burdens your mothers electricity bill, user. turn that seedbox off right now)
