just pop open thee console and install xfce and boom it runs 200% faster and more efficiently

Install Xubuntu.

Of course I remember today

10.04 was nice. I got a free installation CD and a t-shirt for women ^^
It then went to shit sadly. Amazon botnet inegration and a rubbish UI.

>used to be
It still is senpai.

>t-shirt for women ^^
Too bad you can't wear it.

No.

Ubuntu has gotten infinitely better when they finally ditched un*Ty.

This image is so fucking comfy, I have way more nostalgia for old Ubuntu than I do for Windows XP.

Ofcourse I can.

To be honest, i don't think that modern ubuntu is that bad, it's just that 10.04 was the last ubuntu that masses really used. I rember actually seeing ubuntu on people's pcs all the time, even when going to my local second-hand market there were a lot of desktops with ubuntu installed. I can't say i see ubuntu anywhere now. At the time most people still used xp, and when vista and 7 came out they were too heavy to run on most older hardware, but ubuntu was a nice compromise. And when it started to grow, ubuntu became a synonym for linux for an average user. They missed thier chance to actually throw microshaft out of thier market dominance. This is sad.

Probably looks shit on you because you're ugly and have a flat chest

>*sips*
>Yep, that was a real OS

it is stupid to deny that software went to shit after circa 2012

I'm cute and adorable and my boobs are big, so it's fine, no need for your concerns (;

I really liked gnome 2 you don't need to search for every piece of software in your computer. And bottom bar was effective at multi tasking.

I ran 10.10 on my StinkPad T42. Worked flawlessly. I couldn't have been happier with it.

it's called ubuntu mate now

this

no.
well, it's good for migrating to linux

>shitnux
>good

I don't know about ubuntu mate, by my experience with mate was pretty bad on ther distros.

I liked Unity. I don't understand why they didn't spend more resources into making Unity better and instead went and ditched it for the piece of trash that GNOME is. Later releases of Unity ran pretty well and its only fault was always just the lack of customization, but usability wise it was really good.

nobody is talking about unity

Because Jow Forums and most linuxfag hated Unity and called it "an inferior GNOME".

It's good on Ubuntu, pretty much how how gnome was.

gnome2 > unity
then gnome3 came alone and showed the world just how bad things could be
people wanted gnome2 back, and instead they got gnome3. be careful what you wish for!

To be honest vanilla Ubuntu gnome is pretty ok, not a lot different to unity.

linux mint is just as comfy as old ubuntu

>a derivative based on another derivative

Install Xubuntu

That was around the time i started getting into linux, Ubuntu was still running Gnome 2 back then

>implying ever

well to be honest the ubuntu core has been a good OS for about a decade now, it's the GUIs that fuck up again and again. They ditched GNOME2 because it was too unstable to fix and today ironically, MATE, which is "Gnome2 continued", is FAR more stable than Gnome3.

Anyway like this fag said Xfce is pretty much the only actually stable GUI so slapping it on top of the ubuntu core is the way to go. Another fine option is unironically Pantheon, they made Gnome3 stable by removing most customization. It's kinda cheating but hey it works.

Budgie is the future is they manage to make it as stable as Pantheon, tho. They're not there yet but we'll see.

anyway you should killyourself OP

Me neither

I'm surprised it took over 10 comments before this appeared..

How can someone use Ubuntu. I mean have you listened how it sounds? Ubuntu. How it looks like written? Ubuntu. Probably the worst name for anything ever, like a bunch of preschoolers beat up a kindergardener until he started talking incoherent things and they wrote down what he said. I wouldn't be caught dead using "Ubuntu".

Ubuntu MATE integrates MATE into the desktop very well. A lot of the devs that work on MATE contribute to the Ubuntu MATE project directly, and Ubuntu MATE is usually the first distro to get the newest versions of MATE (aside from bleeding edge distros like Arch, Debian Sid, etc.)

No but I remember the wobbly windows feeding my Autism and being upset enough to add it back once it was removed.

fedora mate is pretty good.
i liked it better than xfce

It's still good when paired with Xfce and/or Openbox.

>linux
>good os

hahaha

I'm not your mate, pal

not that mate, mate
this mate's pronounced 'mah-tay'

whenever i have trouble with something in linux, i remember what the alternatives are

People complaining about Ubuntu Unity feels like when Windows users' main complaints about Windows are minor UI changes like the start button. You can install a different DE/WM, so why does it matter what small visual changes there are?

I just wish they let the MATE team use orange instead of goddamn green. Orange-y GNOME2 was just one pure eyegasm.

yea, i'm not a huge fan of green either
there are options
