Seems like most people in the comment section just read the title and then post a link to something irrelevant.

Sometimes I'll end up on reddit while searching for something, and reddit's a big mess to me so I don't really like using it, but I have to admit I've found the answer I was looking for more than a few times. Sometimes I'll end up on HN while searching for something, but I've never once found what I was looking for there.

Weekly digest of all the retarded shit they say.

The author isn't as clever as he thinks.

Neither is hacker news

You're right.

Nah he's good for a chuckle.

Early in the 2010's the place was inundated with stories about how dynamic programming was awesome; you didn't need types because you had unit tests. Everyone swore it was the future.

That never took off, and many rather well known names at the time deleted their blogs and pretended the cause never existed.

After that we got the push for Angular (There's other examples, like NoSQL). As a corporate who has ported our shit away from Angular back to something that can have a shelf life of more than ten minutes I can tell you one thing:

If HN swears its the next big thing, shrug your shoulders, wait a year or two, and see if it is still around. Nothing you're building today needs whatever shit they are peddling, you can build it in a "boring" language / platform and be perfectly fine. HN are mostly entrepreneurs that build things that either go big or are thrown in the bin ("sunsetted", "pivoted", take your pick) in a few months time, so it doesn't matter what they build it in, because it is disposable.

>As a corporate who has ported our shit away from Angular back to something that can have a shelf life of more than ten minutes

what did you port Angular to? React?

oh no man, they are horrible. They do not know what they are talking about and they seem to miss out on what's really going out on there. So they have like 3 new stories a week or so?

It's not there you get your news user....

it's hosted on cat-v, so it's written by some schizoid who got along with and/or admired uriel.

90% of the comments are people trying to shill their own app/product

poor's man reddit..

it suffers from massive faggotism from bay area autists, eurofag poorgrammers, and various other fag varietals. still haven't found much of a better alternative though

HN is good for understanding how retards with money think so you can exploit their objective logic and rationality
I imagine it's like drawing furry porn for money when you're not a furry yourself

>I'm so afraid people will accuse me of being a stereotypical san francisco tech liberal that I hedge my bets by calling this shit funny
this site is more HN than HN itself

>"Well, Apple actually isn't that good, and here's wh-"
>[flagged]

>he can't laugh satire of ridiculous people because he's too self conscious or something
Sounds like you've got some issues.

get some good links now and then.
good enough for me to check out

>satire
he picks out the most obnoxious comment he can find and ignores the fact that multiple people reply to it with criticism and counterexamples
wow HN btfo

same thing happened to me
it was early enough in the sites history that PG himself emailed me to say he was reversing the ban

Sjw infested shithole.
>There was article about economy of playing chess profesionally
>someone comments about poor whamen
>point out that that whamen have better economic incentives to play chess - they have whamen only tournaments where men will not steal top prices AND in all sexes tournaments highest place whamen get extra prices.
>"that is sexist and not related to economy of playing chess"
>point out that IT IS
>baned.
Not even shadow or slow banned. Just banned

why are you so fucking butthurt about it lol, if hnews is as good as you think you don't need to defend it

>explains why it's pathetically low effort
>LOL BUTTHURT BUTTHURT XXDDDD lmfao
I bet you spend more time on HN than anyone here

>being this anally annihilated by a satirical website designed to trigger sanfran webshits

it's ok user the echochamber just doesn't appreciate your unique brand of genius

It's exactly like the pic in OP. The scary thing about n-gate.com is that ever so often it's exactly on point.
Compare the comments about SanFran firemen [1] with how n-gate satirizes it [2] and you'll discover it's spot on.
"Hacker" "News" is full of arrogant retards who think just because they can perpetrate a shitty website means they understand *everything* better than anyone else.

>he picks out the most obnoxious comment he can find
yeah, that's what makes it funny.

I said the guy is funny, not rhetorically rigorous...

so he's just trying to knock down a strawman with tosmart witty quips after they've already been shit on in the actual thread
what a comedic genius pretty subversive desu

Again, I said he's funny, not rhetorically rigorous. I think he's funny because he's got a good snippy way with words.

You seem to have a knot in your panties over him because he's not presenting a rigorous critique of HN, opting instead to simply mock it. It's like you can't comprehend why somebody might laugh at something that's not coldly clinical and rational like Spock. Are you on the spectrum?

so ultimately you admire ngate because it mocks something popular?
to be honest I'm not surprised, I see this kind of attitude all the time in tech. It never has anything to do with the arguments it has to with their contrarian insecurities over other people having power.

>>so ultimately you admire ngate because it mocks something popular?
Admire? I said I find him funny. I said:
>Nah he's good for a chuckle.

This guy's not my father or mentor or something. I don't admire him, he's a guy I consider amusing. You must legitimately be on the spectrum if you're struggling with a concept this simple.

backpedaling and avoiding the point over ambiguous wording what a champ
also hold on let me acknowledge your repeated attempts at insulting me by saying I have autism

Tell HN: Company You Have Never Heard Of Is Shutting Down

Attached: intern.png (800x600, 32K)

there may only be 1-10% useful or interesting links at any given time but it's a damn site better than the alternatives like leddit which is 0.01% useful or interesting and that's only after you filter the site to more niche subreddits, there's a lot of bay area tech startup nonsense (such as: ) on HN that you need to learn to filter out, the comments on HN can be a train wreck that sometimes gets right but you're on Jow Forums so you should be good at filtering out retards, the comments are heavily moderated and they expect you to conform to certain behaviours which is probably the most egregious thing, etc, basically it's not great but it's not terrible either if you stay out of the comment section

I think the real utility of HN comes from all the consistently great obscure blog posts/pdfs/interesting tech stuff that you'd probably miss if it wasn't in your field of interest, it's not uncommon to see a random pdf or article from 5-10 years ago that ends up being a decent read

despite the name it's not a news aggregator

>unironically preferring shadow bans
kill yourself

>Compare the comments about SanFran firemen [1] with how n-gate satirizes it [2] and you'll discover it's spot on.
>"Hacker" "News" is full of arrogant retards who think just because they can perpetrate a shitty website means they understand *everything* better than anyone else.
it's not like n-gate is satirising in a vacuum, he's literally just pointing out the retards that end up in the comments, and while HN is full of arrogant retards it's not like they're oblivious to this fact as the people who n-gate satirises almost always get called out when they post stupid shit, pic related is an example of that
it's some good mockery as points out but any actual criticism is something you can also find in the HN threads themselves

>tell story how I got banned for pointing out facts.
>>unironically preferring shadow bans
where di I say that? Where you idiotic imbecile?
