i bet it's because they wanted to stick with z370 boards but an 8 core 16 thread chip would be too much for the boards to handle. which is why the i9 has hyperthreading instead, because the x299 boards are built to use lots of power

I remember back in the day when AMD drones ranted about how Intel's Hyperthreading fake cores were detrimental to performance and that it should be disabled.
