Of course i do, OP.
There's important shit.

to be honest losing all my files would be a blessing
all of this shit I have saved has become a psychological burden on my life, all the pictures and text documents and bookmarks everything

go away red leet star

>Lifetime Archival*

unproven

I used to use it as well, so I'll only fault you a little, but you should really explore alternative options. I sort of "replaced" it by just storing the same things locally, and if I need something off another machine I can use sftp/rsync/sshfs. I also have some servers running to hold some files.

>backs up with cds

Fucking reddit fag show

He's disguising people's data as music CDs. I think it helps the cover. Also, it's unironically a really good show.

I'd rather wipe and start a new than restore from a backup, even so not like I'm low on space so...

>it's a really good show

Ahahhahahahahha

*scratches disc*
Whoops, looks like your shit's corrupted now. Opticscucks, when will they learn? Tape is the only reliant archival storage.

>i have files backuped in tar archive
Main reason to backup is for disk failure, making copies on the same disk is plain stupid.
>copy them over to a usb soon
That ok but USB aren't the most reliable data storage.

Can store data on usb?
How much storage has usb 3.1 c? I have usb 2 two.
How much combined storage i have?
I need storage
Please
Thank you

I thought pajeets had some computer knowledge. You must be new

...

Only in the office, with an SVN hosted on another machine. I don't care for my home files, I lost personal photos and videos all the time and it doesn't mean anything to me.

What do you expect ? From the website well known for its awful random board , ya gotta expect trolls and new fags man and just ignore them.

I usually back up my OS on my hard drive , and run it from an SSD, but i also have a usb system restore point for my windows OS, but i only use my windows OS for entertainment pretty much!

easy to destroy, just werks™ and is weird to suspect there is something more than photos, videos and music

also cheap

Only the ones I can afford to. I use old HDDs and my webspace for the most important ones. I don't backup my movie database because its 12 TB. If it was gone I would have to live with it. It can be recreated, while my personal files can't be.

So, i dont have that much storage compared to these other guys, but i focus on portability of my data than the volume of the data.

i dont give a fuck about botnet honestly as most important files are all encrypted anyway.
i am in a good educational institute and the gmail account they give has unlimited storage for us. currently i've used around 1.7TB on it.

along with it, i have three 2TB external (1 seagate and 2 WD) backup of everything. these are all mirrors and i sync them once every 2 to 3 months.

one of the WD hard drive is always in my bag along with the netbook pic related which is light as fuck so these 2 are always in my bag.

if i dont have anything else, i use the GDrive from other people's computer to check up on files if i want.

Attached: 2018-07-22_03-08-36.png (1366x768, 1.05M)

Yes, I back them up with free hdds that I salvaged from broken laptops. I do have around 500+ dvd-r discs and multiple cd/dvd/blue-ray burners though.

God save Jow Forums

what's in the comfy backup?

Of course.
Daily rsync of my home (-some heavy files) to my NAS back in Russia.

mega's versioning is shit and slow af
dropbox and google drive is really the only good cloud storage/backup
although you can't put porn on there because they routinely manually check if it is, and deletes them

can't fucking wait. Hope $ony will stay away from this tho, because otherwise it will be overprices as fuck. Same as blu-ray.

I use google drive

>having files worth backing up

fucking normies

whats a decent drive checker program?

WD Lifeguard says one of my hard drives is fucked
windows/intel says its OK

Not really, I don't care if I lose most of the stuff

CHKDSK says 0 problems too

How do I build my system so that I can wipe everything before the feds manage to kick down my door?

A daily reminder Quartz Crystals as a method of storing data/information were absolutely prophesied WAAAY back in 1992~1993 by BBSM. Yes, really.

>BSSM
Fix

Of course I back up my valuable files. I have reaction faces from 4 hard drives ago.

/boot on another disk, preferably SD card
You may also do wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dm-crypt/Specialties#Encrypted_system_using_a_detached_LUKS_header and embed keys and headers for the system disk to the initrd image
When they go to your door (and if you're around), you power off your PC and snap that card.

the LUKs is the only thing you got right.
I'd avoid having the keys on a local system (even as junkcode on an initrd) - offsite or pxe if you can.
putting boot on a a separate partition/sdcard only halts the system booting. If you haven't got whole disk enc then any cunt with testdisk can access your / let alone /home.

More sage advice would be to transparently LUKS your home and keep that on an external drive.

Oh, so you don't write any software, that you wish to backup?

He always drops it on the floor and kicks it down that thing, wouldn't it damage the disks?

How do you sync them, user?

>they routinely manually check

You're absolutely fucking retarded if you believe this. There aren't enough employees in America as a whole to manually review every file uploaded to Google Drive

Let's say I have a folder that the files inside change places. What program can I use to 'sync' with the backup that I already made on my external HD and make it equal to what I have on my PC

rsync dude, what else is there. i always liked it, it's dependable and i know the time it takes approximately based on how much data.

AI's you fucking retard

every where

Thanks. Just did this rsync -azvh Original/Directory Backup/Directory

Is there a CD burner that can also label my discs for me?

My files are not that important. And I'm yet to see a single failing hard drive in over 20 years.

and if that drive fails?

>watching porn
Sort yourself out, bucko

>bubble-bath.jpg on irfanview
>"watching porno"

he's using slideshow and having a wank to what looks like stuff he's downloaded from /wpg - archive.nyafuu.org/wg/thread/7235314/, don't be a cunt m8.

Took me a moment to find something blue board friendly...

Attached: 1436489803924.jpg (1920x1200, 1.06M)

build your system like normal but keep a microwave close by

>porn on desktop
>"oh but user he's not *watching* it XD"
don't be obtuse user, you know exactly what's wrong with it. It's fucking degenerate

You just have to encrypt everything and have a way to destroy the encryption key when anyone tries to get your data.

What do take me for OP? I upload my backups to the cloud in an encrypted LUKS 2 container with a 32 character long passphrase.

/pol-tier Christfag detected.

This is /g m8, it's about tech. Getting the filetype and media wrong and trying to get all judgie about some user having a one handed shuffle with sum breddy fucken tame softcore for /wg marks you as being in the wrong place dickhead.

If I had to choose what another user pulls his pd to I'd prefer that to him actually watching porn and essentially getting aroused at the sight of another man's tumescent penis entering a woman that user might find attractive - which to me is the very epitome of cuckoldry.

I see you chose to ignore my advice to not be a cunt. Pity.

Mr Robot was arse

hahah brah ahaha just compress the porn in an encypted rar hahahhaha look at this dude.

>Mr Robot was arse
why you think so?

i actually liked the series but some things like Elliot "wiping" were completely retarded and cringed me out

of course! i also have a backup of the backup

I have 102 gigs worth of stuff on google drive (2$)
I also have like 650 gigs of shit on google cloud services (1 cent per gig $6.50)

but now 2TB on google drive is just 10 bucks so if I ever reach more than 1TB of shit backed up in the cloud I'm getting fucking cucked, and it'd be super annoying to upload that much shit to google drive.....

This embodies like every /tv/ cliche holy shit.

Only important docs and settings from homedir. Also list of panda artists. Switching to small SSD made me rethink my life and become more organized.

I thought I'm the only one doing this.

this, I'd rather be free of the material anchors to this world

>thinks a usb is a valid backup

In-house nextcloud instance backed up to Backblaze servers (encrypted ofc)

To a samba server, yes.

I do, but most of the data stored would technically be obtainable again, It would only take a few weeks and 2.5 tbs of torrenting.

Both 3.0 and 4.1 Are external drives, one is in my desk unplugged and the other one is at my office most of the time except once a month when I bring it home to back up, the rest of them are internal. What probably would trigger people is that I don't have them in raid, but I prefer using synctoy. It's very basic, but I like how it streamlines backups.

Open to suggestions, I'm sure you guys could do something more efficient than me. Out of all the drives, only the ones that begin with 2.X are used daily, the others are internal/external back ups.

Nobody takes me up on the offer:
I have a delta-backup system which is traversable with cd and copyable with ssc or whatever secure shell copy is.

It uses bunch of bash scripts and stuff to easily do rsnapshot driven backups on FreeNAS. They've been deployed in a production environment for a while, and literally FreeNAS 11 is the worst component (certain USB failures happen).

did a ZFS2 or whatever with 4 8TB drives, and the configuration sends rsync commands to the local machine. There was a small corruption during a power outage which was fixed by clearing the most present backup.

Needed: ssh, sudo, and some other bits. There's a small issue where the ssh can run normal commands (I couldn't follow the tutorials to lock it out of the ssh key settings while debugging everything, and we used a closed off network so  ).

It creates a custom user, where the only ssh command is the backup wrapper, and it's permitted to sudo. I think there's ways you can rip-off the delete-after-copy parts, because it permits full access to rsync. Current settings retain user stuff and ACL's should work too. Logs dates and success/failure, doesn't continue "backup up" on failure, etc. Result: a backup which does daily backups, which rotate to weeklies, which rotate to monthlies (or any other timescale - time is set via cron), fully traversable and automated. I didn't test the Windows support, installing a cygwin I think enables ssh connectivity, though you can also use a linux key which is statically addressed and loads the hard drive to the same mount path if you need to preserve the environment 100%.

Share computer books amigo

P.s. by delta backups I don't mean it only keeps one set of data. All the data is cross-linked and stuff, so every backup folder has full access to all files at that time, and deleting anything rewires the file links so it's all consistent. Each backup took only about 5% more space (we use a lot of little files).

its one of the only media that wont get destroyed by magnetic force

the dude had mental problems and you're complaing that he's "so cringy"??

>FDE on all drives
>memorize one +200-bit key
>have N+1 kill switches in your home
>if you need to leave the house, booby trap the fuck out of your home

Just checked, that was cringy as fuck. Why would you drill holes into your HDD? It's not even effective.

The guy's supposed to be an expert and he doesn't somehow the basics of computer forensics? That's cringy as hell.

elliot had multiple personality disorder and started a fucking revolution without even knowing he was the mastermind behind it because it was his father/other personality behind it

yeah he's going to act "cringy", he's got more than a few screws loose

>The guy's supposed to be an expert
When was this established? Almost everything he does is basic.

>back in Russia
How much anime are you storing there you blyat?

drill enough holes and you'll be safe
