Just type vim and hit enter.
:q to quit using vim, btw.

I did. I tried it for a month full time. I ended up going back to a normal text editor in Visual Studio because I'm a minimum of 2x as fast with it as I am with vim.

I do still use Vim as my primary *text editor*, e.g. when editing files from a terminal or just writing notes.

give me a reason

neckbeard incels dont tell me what to do

But nvim is better than vim, and vis is better than nvim, and ed is better than vis.

ex is better than ed

it makes you feel good

No thanks, I use Nano. :)

emacs is better than vim

Luke is literally a 30 y/o boomer and probably started this thread.

the comparison is more like 'Cars are better than bicycles'

What does mush represent?

>using an editor
>not a conglomerate of sed and awk scripts you've hacked together, constantly adding conditionals to account for new edge cases you find at your job
This is how I get around the problem of sshing into a machine that doesn't have proper editors installed.

i imagined him typing on a chicklet wireless keyboard.

>nvim is better than vim

nvm literally started because the creator couldn't get any of his pull requests into vim because the code quality was so shit.

i have been using vim for about a year but i was shit at it
i recently found out about vim tutor now i am using vim

Please donate to ugandan niggers before using vim :)

No thanks, I'll just use notepad++.

>nvim is better

nvim should have closed up shop after vim8 was released.

Dr. Stallman has proclaimed vim careware license is GPL compatible.

grow some fucking hair? fucking hell that guy is painful to look at.

Just use vis if you really want to use something other than ed or ex.

Worst misuse of this shit meme I've seen so far, congrats.

gg goes to top of document, and G goes to the end.
Of course you already knew that, but did you know typing 50% takes you to the middle?

instead of refreshing math/physics and actually practicing programming for last couple months for having some headstart in college (dropped out of uni some years ago), i've been procrastinating by ditching gnome/mate/xfce and ricing a well known wm and figuring out how to use them terminal programs and also got a chinkpad with horrid tft panel (had forgotten how bad lcds where in 2011) because that sounded like a good idea. i must agree with someone that vim is sort of a stockholm-syndromey thing and i still use arrow keys. not even mad really.

is dwm any good?

Actually meant for

Stop using vim.

Literally only good for editing configs in the terminal.

Luke Thomas is based but he is wrong about vim, emacs is superior.

whoa
M exists, but any% works, nice

vim was made to edit .vimrc

30yo boomers are the best Jow Forums demographic, buddy... below that it's shit thread only.

But user I use micro

>"No, shut up!"

Asking you to grow horns is the same as asking someone with MPB to grow hair. Retard.

:help index

Oh sorry man I didn't know that, thanks you so much for the insight. Fucking kys

I used Vim until two guys made a response video for Luke question on Emacs. Now I use GNU/Emacs

post link pls?

This editor is really cool, shame about the awful syntax highlighting.

If I could have the server-client architecture and selection first then operation semantics of this editor and the minimalism and syntax highlighting of vis I would be happy.

my further remarks will be with my nanorc in mind

nano simply isn't as powerful as vim.

youtu.be/EsAkPl3On3E
Couldn't find the other, but this one channel is great to learn emacs

huh?

Nano is better at every day jobs which makes it more efficient, and almost as powerful (external commands + macros + word completion + goto-gcc-error) as vim.

How do I make vim search work like a normal one?
On browser: ctrl+F+Enter to jump through matches
On vim: /(word)+??? to jump through matches

Er, me just summoning Luke Smith by his crawler powers?

on nano
Ctrl+F searches
Ctrl+R replaces
Ctrl+Z undoes
Ctrl+Y redoes
Ctrl+X cuts
Ctrl+V pastes
Ctrl+D duplicates
Ctrl+O opens
Ctrl+Q quits
all your familiar commands and MORE are there, and you don't have to learn ANYTHING
just move github.com/Mark-Weston/nanorc/blob/master/nanorc to /etc/nanorc

also
Ctrl+N goes to next result
Ctrl+P goes to previous result

Im already used to Ctrl+O for saving and Ctrl+X on nano, Im just learning to use vim but thanks user
Do you use nano for writing code?

Sure, kid.

where, in emacs, do i type this?

Yes, I do.
I write C and Lua mostly.

Big yikes

why the hell are we arguing about text editors? vim and nano are both great

it's an easy thing to have an opinion about

I started using Vim few months ago because my laptop is a potato and my main pc died, and I'm too poor to buy a new one. After the initial pain of learning how to get around in Vim now, I can't imagine doing stuff without it.

I said it's better, not almost as good
Vim can't even run load a website

okay lawrence. want to grab a couple of beers and head by hooters later?

How the hell can you argue about fucking TEXT editors of all things?

do you use vivaldi?

newfag normalshit

>in an autistic argument on Jow Forums

What the fuck?

Vim is tedious for the first month or so of use, but having used it for nine years I can now say that it is a very comfy editor, such that I've never needed to use anything else. (I still use other editors though, but only because I just like variety, not out of any sort of necessity.)

Nothing is better than ed.
gnu.org/fun/jokes/ed-msg.html

Is that the infamous Vigor?

>On vim: /(word)
This isn't vim, this is a unix standard. You can search man pages, etc. Browsers supports it, too (at least Firefox does).

vim >>> :s/old/new finds old and replaces it with new.
bash >> !!:s/old/new runs previous command replacing old with new
sed >>> 's/old/new/g' replaces old with new.

You openly admitted it's not as powerful.
Do you really want to replay last week when you defied me to name anything vim could do that nano couldn't'. After about 6 you started doing shit like nano can do that, first exit nano, then at your shell prompt .... then after about 12 things you got all mad and all you had was those are stupid things and I hate them. Remember that?

sorry back up wtf, you cant just bring up dropping out after a headstart casually and ask about dwn ffs lol.

what the fuck happened?

Visual Studio for proper work; Nano for quick jobs.

Attached: HURHGHGHU.jpg (1552x1152, 140K)

why do you think that's an interesting part of his post? dropping out isn't uncommon at all

also you talk like a normalfag, stop that

>Use vim for a few days
>Realize the editor is completely unusable and just switch to vscode with the vim plugin

fuck off Luke

Debian defaulting to nano is the most obnoxious shit ever. No terminal editor is intuitive to anyone anymore, so why default to something experienced users won't want either? One of the first things I always do on a new Debian install is do something that invokes the default editor, waste 30 seconds figuring out how to quit nano, check the man page for update-alternatives and set it to vim-tiny. How many people do that, I don't know.

Meanwhile vi is the only terminal editor on so much cheap embedded shit; I pity people who don't know it. It's like having a super power knowing you can get a shell on basically anything and fuck around.

> be you
> sad, computer illiterate
> no idea how to use vim or nano
> no idea what you're talking about
ah, Jow Forums.. you never fail to disappoint. fucking hilarious.

granted
don't have to tell me twice
your wish is my command

>not just
$ vim scp:user@domainname/file_path

Start using Emacs+Evil
ftfy

ssh in vim is bloat; use sshfs + whatever the hell you want. Fucking hate it when random boxes don't have FUSE enabled because the sysop is a knob.

>>Nano is better at every day jobs
no it isn't.

Everything nano can do, vim can do better. Everything.
