Given that most people haven't adopted it yet and the games that come out anymore are pretty shitty and limited... yeah probably.

Depends. I tried out a friends Vive for games and it was neat, when it gets higher resolution and we get GPUs that can actually drive it I think it will be awesome. I particularly like the hand tracking, I think using a controller takes away from the experience too much.
I don't care about games though, I just want something with a high enough resolution to be able to replace my monitors. It would also have to be comfortable enough to wear for hours at a time though and not leave a red ring on your face.

Which anime best represents what cyber VR worlds will be like?

Except every other avatar is shouting "you must kno da wei"

LMAO

IMAGINE BEING THIS GUY

what is this from?

jurassic world

Or is finnish, drunk and having an existential crisis
youtube.com/watch?v=VahuChwc_O8

>only used for gaming
>has literally 5-9 games, rest being arcade tech demos
>expensive and needs open space to do anything
yes. i'm waiting for Windows 10 VR so I can just use my desktop in bed

Meanwhile Linux already has a VR desktop.

Ready Player One

If I was on that train I would rob that guy and I’m not even black.

>t. Jamal

VR Chat unironically seems really neat.

more like Ready Gayer One

>hating on gamers
I'm sorry but We're Not Gonna Take It
Gamers rise up!

>We're Not Gonna Take It
No! We ain't gonna take it!

trustedreviews.com/news/htc-vr-decline-reports-false-vive-headset-selling-at-record-rate-3516698

>shitting on a bad movie made about gamers is shitting on gamers
I'd say it's the other way around.

I've always wondered. Is that Björk? I remember when I watched the movie her voice sounded exactly like her, and her lips are kinda similar (idk that sounds stupid).

Movie was bland but semi interesting enough to keep you watching, i wouldn't say bad though

VR Chat and Elite:Dangerous VR are what get me out of bed.

This is what I always imagined VR would be like
And the best we got right now is VRChat

>ANYMOOOOOOOOOOOORE

Hoping for the same. I've been hungry for VR since Johnny Mnemonic surfed the virtual web.

I just hope it will happen before I die. I've haven't been able to try any VR yet because nobody sets up any demos where I live. It's fucking insane. If you make these things, why aren't demos set up at every electronics store.

I don't even care about the games. Just let me explore hidden ruins in some foreign land or attend a concert. Explore Mars or an underwater reef.

Yes. AR, on the other hand, will change the world.

That's hot

>Elite:Dangerous VR
GOOD BUT BORING

GOAT 6DOF GAME OF ALL TIME
DESCENT #4 AKA OVERLOAD
youtube.com/watch?v=wIynFVk1NG8

Nice. Thanks post this, user. This little conversation is the exact kind of thing I expected VR to deliver in the 90s.

Thanks for posting*

Realistically? Dennou Coil.

Fucking normie shit

nobody really knows how to make VR games anyway. cockpit games and wave shooters get boring fast and don't even benefit from VR that much.

VR gaming won't be important until someone comes up with a game that needs VR and is great enough to justify needing it

there are some interesting applications for VR other than gaming. real life based things like concerts and museums for one. but something like a social network world would be much more interesting.
facebook buying oculus and developing self contained low cost headsets clearly aims for that

l have those arcade "sims" that handle space navigation like driving a truck that can go up and down.

Imagine a game that handles space navigation at least as realistic as Kerbal does.
Now that would be a space sim.

>Gamers rise up!
Try doing 2 sets of 10 uprisings a day, you will lose some weight,

That normie shit will stick in peoples' minds, and then smart money starts rolling in. There was a similar idea in Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash. The haptic body feedback suits were a bit magicky, but those were also touched on by Daniel Suarez in his Daemon books, though they were more like 360° radar you can feel than violence and cummies enhancers. I think the movie brought plenty of good ideas into public consciousness, and it had the same tired plot feel because it's the same tired scumbags making the movies, editing storylines and choosing the scripts that get made.

ARE YOU IMPLYING DESCENT IS LIKE DRIVING A TRUCK

youtube.com/watch?v=lRZXME555z0

No, virtual reality has been around since the 1990s and will continue into the future, both for interesting people and for normalfags. MUDs, MUCKs, MUSHes, more innovative IF, etc.
I likely won't ever get a VR headset but it's an interesting development, too.

Descent in VR must induce projectile vomiting. You could save suicides' lives with it.

I have a rift. Its good fun. The hand movements are amazing in it. Bigscreen is a lot of fun to go on and have some beers, and talk shit with people. I wish the resolution was higher so i could use it as a monitor replacement.

>forgetting MOOs

Thing I learned after becoming le pc mustard race is that consoles and stuff like the VR isn't meant for neets who sit and game all day. It's for people who actually game to socialize with friends. Imagine when friends, family, colleagues etc comes over you can give them their first VR experience. For them the novelty wont wear off fast because they don't use it as much. Would be super fun.

There is vrchat which is somewhat close

Attached: Big Fat Cat Tats.jpg (1600x1200, 424K)

There aren't demos everywhere because they are expensive and niche, not many people own machines that can even run a VR headset. I have seen some in a couple of bigger electronics stores though.
And it will probably come before you die, Pimax is working on 5k and 8k headsets. The only problem is that that is both screens combined and iirc you would need an 8k screen per eye to properly replace monitors. So we are getting closer, just not quite there yet.

Funny thing is most people who play vr chat don't even use vr.

>nobody really knows how to make VR games anyway.

We have told them repeatedly and they won't listen , GTA or Oasis , but they want to make wave shooters and tennis.

I would be happy with a bad graphics GTA , like some of these cheap comedy games , but GTA style.

Driver VR would also be acceptable.

Yes. Its a niche market. There are too few games and only "VR" games supporting it, the headgear is expensive and low resolution. Also you need a high end PC to drive it.

My top end 1080 Ti gaming PC wouldn't be able to handle it in stereoscopic 4K at acceptable framerates. It will take a few gens, I guess late 2020s. It will first become something for enthusiasts, because its expensive as fuck. If major AAA titles supported it and everyone could afford the hardware, having 4K90 hardware avaiable under 500 € it would become popular.

Had the DK2, I know they have a bit more resolution now, but there is still a fence in your vision which greatly destroys the immersion.

signs point to no

Got a rift and today is the last day I can take it back.

Vr is looking bleak. Not many games coming for it and most games are arena shooters or walking Sims. No real advanced games who h kinda sucks. Also can't play with non vr players and most online vr games have no player base.

I'm tempted to take it back and get that money but it's so cool the little bit of time I do play it.

Get Echo VR and don't look back, that game makes VR worth it alone

disclaimer, competetive player who went to an all expenses paid tournament in England two weeks ago in that game

is that an oculus go ?

Yep, don't buy it if you want to actually use VR. It does 2 things well - watching TV / movies and showing people VR. Everyone I have put this thing on have come out blown away and considering buying.

I was wondering how hot those get when used for longer periods of time. Because my phone gets really hot when using it for vr.

They get slightly warm but not anywhere near as hot as your phone in GearVR / Daydream

IIRC there's an actual VR mod for GTA V, though I haven't ever tried it.

interesting thanks user

Let’s be fucking real, VR won’t be used for gaming because there is little need for it, you have to do more than simply make existing games VR. You need to come up with concepts that demand it. That aren’t possible without it. And sadly originality in this space is lacking.
Porn. You already know it. It will be used for porn.
>facebook buying oculus
Gross, now we can finally avoid genuine human interaction at all costs. Creating our own matrix desu

Are you living in 2015?

Are you living in the real world?

Phone VR is a joke. It's overly cumbersome and just outright annoying. Even when used for VR porn, it's a pain in the ass, but stimulating enough to get off.

We can only hope Apple adapts it within 5 years so it actually becomes something more than a novelty. I'd be willing to empty out a room just or VR if it means I can free my mortal shackles.

>only used for gaming
Lol wut?
Maybe for kids sure. VR Porn. Seriously there is decent potential there. There is already plenty of it. Arguably more VR porn than games themselves.
Until tech moves forward more for the average consumer. VR Will mostly be passive videos.

echo vr
onward

good games exist but it's such a new platform that 95% of them do suck because nobody knows how to develop for VR yet. If you get one thing wrong it's just annoying to play. If you get everything right but your game is shit it's annoying to play and makes the platform look bad. The bar is just way way higher for good VR experiences

>apple vr
s-sounds g-great

He watching blacked porn

wouldn't really call the most popular experience 'vr chat' a game. It's more like a hang out.

I think it's nearly there, gen2 products are shaping up to be really promising and full body tracking suits and haptic feedback is just about there. All that is really missing is gpus that can deliver foveated rendering for super HD images, although I hear nvidias next gen gpus are going to be capable of this, can anyone confirm?

There is already a 2x4k headset prototype on the market and once they figure out how to do foveated renderinf properly, even a farily basic card should be abke to run great resolutions since you are no longer rendering the whole screen at 4k.

VR in a nutshell
youtu.be/-MjnbFl4Tmc

It can be fun and stuff but I seriously hope we never have to live in a world where it's required for conducting any kind of meaningful legitimate business no matter how much its changed up to try to be useful for that.

>It's for people who actually game to socialize with friends
It is also for people who socialize with Internet friends.

retard

imdb.com/name/nm6972706/?ref_=m_ttfcd_cl31

Continuous forward motion is a problem in VR.

>He is a retard for not watching reddit the movie

Gas yourself redditor

I got to help out a demo station for the rift in best buy for a week(unemployed slave labor). People really underestimate how interested and enthusiastic ANYONE who tries it is. even fucking 60+ year olds will put the headset on if they see someone else do it first, its fucking infectious.

I don't think it is a meme but until costs reduce a lot it won't be mainstreamed. It will eventually be there though. Its too game changing and anyone saying elsewise hasn't tried it or is a faggot/blind.

>My top end 1080 Ti gaming PC wouldn't be able to handle it in stereoscopic 4K at acceptable framerates
With PS2-tier graphics it will. Maybe thanks to VR and 144 Hz+ monitors some gamedevs will let go of the realism meme and specialize in ultrahigh framerates and responsiveness.
