what's a good non-browser youtube client for linux?

github.com/trizen/youtube-viewer
or just ytdl see --default-search or can be passed to mpv with ytdl://

I'm trying to find a cheap enough laptop that can run 4k video and handle gaming slightly better than my X220/T420

is there a way to recover image files on an android device's internal storage after a factory reset? apparently photorec only works on sd cards?

T430 with a NVMS GPU or a T440p with a GT 730m.
W520 or W530 with a GPU.

If you're using a Nvidia gpu what would be a better monitor

144hz Gsync or 240hz Freesync?

T440P's seem to vary wildly in price

They started to replace T420's this year, they should be under $350.

Will the telecoms eventually find a way to stop the tricky people from making tethered devices all appear to be from the same device, avoiding the throttling/etc? Or is this something that's entirely undetectable

Anyone ever get AutoCad 2014 working on WINE and .net or possibly using the MacOS version natively with modifications?

It's my last program I need to switch to Linux.
Sadly it looks like a VM is the only way.

depends on how good the nvidia card is
if you can handle 240fps consistently then there's no need for gsync at 144hz

So if you have FPS in the 100 range it's better to go with Gsync 144hz?

Is it normal for a dentist to not use gloves?

Always in the past they used gloves in my experience but I had to go to a new one and he just stuck his bare hands in my mouth with no gloves on, I was kind of surprised but didn't want to say anything because I was worried he would be offended.

just suck his finger until he stops

if you do DPI it's probably pretty easy to detect

yes, but personally i prefer motion blur reduction (ulmb/strobing backlights) over gsync since screen tearing is practically non existent at high framerates (at least i don't notice it).
gsync is for sub 60fps.

also just in case you don't know, gsync only works with nvidia cards. amd has freesync

Does kde work nicely with Debian?

on windows, how can i make it show that i've opened file/watch a video in the file manager?

What is the name of the software used to manage business customers? For example, if a company sold a tier based subscription service and needed to organize a user's name, subscription date, membership tier, etc.

salesforce?

I have a weird problem. I have an MKV video with an accompanying SRT file. They work fine together when I activate the subtitles on the video, but when I try to merge subtitles into the MKV using mkvtoolnix, the resulting MKV file has an inaccurate duration which makes seeking difficult. The subtitles still appear at the correct time though if I just play from the beginning. How do I fix this timing issue and why does this happen from just trying to merge the SRT to the MKV? as I said the subtitles work fine as a separate file so this confounds me.

I installed Aircrack-ng, but Airmon-ng and Airodump-ng don't work. Terminal doesn't recognise those commands.

I reinstalled, but nothing changed, and I've just discovered that iwconfig/iw don't work either.

Does anyone know what's going on, or is this one of those little reminders that you get what you pay for when you use open source software?

My stock fan for a hyper 212 evo is starting to click, what should I replace it with?

X -query uses different configuration from X. Why would you want to have different display configuration for remote? What could be done?

Literally any 120mm 4pin fan, if you wanna go high end get a noctua fan. They're costly but dead silent. Or CoolerMaster makes good fans also. Just make sure to get a 4pin(pwm) fan.

>playing CS:GO at 144Hz stable with Gsync
>game is still stutters and tears at some parts

Why?

Turn on nvidia vsync on control panel, leave it off ingame.

Is there any way to view a private profile on Twitter without following them?

>not making the OP image name something_happened.jpg
for shame

Don't do any of this bullshit, this kind of stuff is the reason people have weird issuse with cs all the time

you know he was peeing right before and didn't wash his hands and when he stuck his finger in your mouth he was thinking
>yeees suck on my piss

OK, this is kinda silly, but I have a sprite collection of old fighting game stages in .gif, and I want to use them as a screensaver on windows 10, what would be the easiest way of doing so?

Attached: 013 - bMq9APc.gif (768x384, 96K)

try handbrake

packages.debian.org/stretch/amd64/aircrack-ng/filelist
it's lower case

if you had gahnuu you could play that with mpv or mplayer to the root window but
>768x384

I'm looking for a windows solution. That is the original resolution of the sprites, but I find it to be part of the whole charm, even when stretched a bit to my 1080p resolution.

Attached: 011 - KZwLV4q.gif (768x384, 128K)

where can I get more of these, they're great

I'm uploading for you

Attached: 107 - njPhhkc.gif (768x368, 127K)

from what fighting game are these anyway ?

also I think I found a bunch already with reverse image searching a bit.

Mostly if not all from SNK games.
The King of Fighters, Samurai Showdown, Fatal Fury, SNK vs. Capcom...

apparently you can use vlc
> under the video tab set as wallpaper
idk if that's screensaver

Yeah, that is the same pack.
They are perfect material for comfy screensavers...

Around two weeks ago I took the dust filter off my PC and cleaned it, ever since that upon boot there was some BIOS error. Waiting or going into BIOS and then exiting without saving would allow me to boot into windows 10 just fine. Yesterday, the BIOS error didn't pop up and it seemed fine. Today, I can't even boot into windows. Sadly, yesterday I backed up my phone's contents to my PC so I have things there that I must get back onto my phone.

So far, the automatic repair does Jack shit, nor did restoring to a restore point. I can only boot in safe mode, but I can't transfer my files to my phone. Any ideas? Thanks

That is just for wallpapers, apparently, but thanks for the try.

yeah use any gnu/linux live iso to get your shit
like lubuntu lts for example or one of rescue cds you might find on distrowatch

Oh man I feel dumb for not thinking of this, I have a Debian USB set up already for my laptops. Thanks, will try now and report back.

How do I delete a commit on my github? I wrote on another computer that messed up my áäå etc. but cannot push from my local machine without pulling the faulty commit

I am planning to build a new desktop linux system based on Ryzen 2700X / ASUS Prime x470 Pro / 32GB DDR4. I never ran Linux on decent desktop hardware before, only ancient shit desktops, laptops and raspberries. Problem is, every Linux system I ever used suffered from horrible screen tearing, and I am determined to avoid that this time.

My question is, what video card is best for Linux for non-gaming. I never game, so I don't need a high-end card. But I would like to run a dual monitor setup, do some basic video editing and watching (YouTube/Kodi/MPV/VLC), run some Windows 7 VMs that wont reach the Internet. Mostly I use software like Matlab, COMSOL Multiphysics, Mathematica, LaTeX editor, other imaging software, and Firefox to surf. My preferred desktop environment is XFCE on a Debian based distro.

My last requirement is that I would like to begin to dabble with OpenCL for general-purpose GPU computing, train some basic ML models on the GPU, and play with PoW mining algorithms on the GPU. Keyword here is *dabble* though. Nothing serious, just play around and learn. So I dont want a cheap ass video card, but I don't need anything super fancy for gaming or actual mining.

I was looking at RX580/560 and 1050(ti) cards, but they may be overkill for what I need, or maybe not. Is G-Sync/FreeSync necessary or even useful to completely avoid screen tearing on Linux. I generally like the open nature and pricing of AMD's tech, but Nvidia seems to consistently edge them out in terms of capability. Not sure which is better for linux though.

Also looking for a good monitor to go with the card. Thanks for reading my blog.

i have ATi
currently there is and isn't screen tearing
for example, nu FF doesn't tear when you scroll any more from some versions ago but i think this may be due to mesa, or by default there is no tearing in full screen mpv which would be opegl iirc (but i use vdpau which also does not tear in full screen if i start the video with --fs )
wow 1.12 tears in wine if emulate desktop is enabled, does not tear otherwise regardless of in game vsync settings which only limits the fps/load/noise in this case

said simply you don't need compton and such unless you want fancy effects, that's X

wayland, you could use weston (which is the only wayland thing that works right) but is a bit anal or gnome but in my exp it causes micro stutter in video playback, and in general gnome is full of bugs and bad use of the available hardware

your gpu is new so you'd use the amdgpu which is good for gaming afaik so there you have it
amd is kind on linux

Intel and proprietary nvidia never tear if you set them up right. Nvidia doesn't tear anywhere even without a compositor

i haven't played youtube in firefox in ages so i have no idea if video tears or not

and avoid nvidia if you don't want anal
it's bad for VMs and even DEs and in general just trouble

Naive idiot here looking to become a wage-slave
Can applying to too many jobs get you into trouble?

Hey Jow Forums, I want to make a device that will shock me in the middle of the night just once to test to see if it will trigger lucid dreaming. What I want to know is how would I go about making this?

I was thinking using those pads and shocker from one of those workout gimicks yet I don't know if the firmware on them can be modded and I wouldn't know how to do that also.

Would it be hard/expensive to make my own? If so, how do I go about that?

How often does Jow Forums change their passwords and how often should I change mine?

Is there any reason to use Ubuntu now that Unity is gone? I really can't see why I shouldn't just switch to Debian.

there was never a reason to use ubuntu
that's why xubuntu and lubuntu exist

Is it worth extra 60€ for 4gb version of 940mx instead of 2gb?

So... I've been using awesomewm for a while but compton started giving me problems with mpv and electron-based programs. Those programs would freeze in a frame and I would have to click it to unfreeze the program.
Right now I switched to the mate desktop until I find a solution to my problem.
>inb4 stop using compton lmao
I like not having tearing so no thanks.
I'm using intel graphics right now btw.

what's a good anime tracking program for linux? I remember there was one but I forgot its name I can't find it

What are some good foss gallery app for android? LeafPic hasn't been updated for years now.

disregard that I just remembered it's trackma

Sooo why does it display rxvt-unicode instead of urxvt (which I know is the short-hand but why)

So I just built a new PC and I plugged in a HDD that already had a Windows 10 installation from my old PC (updated all of the drivers and shit for the new PC obv), and everything seems to work perfectly fine except for the audio, it sounds muffled and a bit distorted when listening to anything on higher volume.
Is it possible that Windows might have fucked up the sound? Because I have a mic plugged in the back too and it sounds and works perfectly fine.

Are there are good file managers that can offer the advanced search options that something like Google Drive offers (such as searching within files, not just files' names), either in Windows 10 or Linux?

What is a good mid-price CPU, preferably compatible with an AMD3+ socket? I want to upgrade from my FX-6350.

Attached: cpu.png (586x479, 137K)

Go to your sound mixer and fuck around with the check-boxes regarding bass-booster and loudness equalization, maybe you had something set before that got reverted.

Or install Debian.

Ranger for linux

Nah, already tried everything possible when it comes to Windows sound options and even Realtek garbage.
Guess I'll just nuke everything.

>text-based.
B-but I am DE brainlet senpai...

The windows explorer can search in files if you enable it on the search tab when searching something.
There's also a lot of search parameters you can use, see docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/desktop/search/-search-3x-advancedquerysyntax

For searching in files I'd recommend grepwin though, it'll also dig through binary files.

You can use grep for searching within files.
also, who is this qt?

Try harder user, I know you can do it. Memes aside if you have any questions I'll try to help.

I want to use a free VPN to post something here. Any suggestions?v.v

I'm getting a laptop for school and since I can't justify building a gaming PC atm and need a laptop anyway, I wanna get one that can edit videos, play vidya, and all that stupid shit. I was looking at the Acer Nitro 5 and the Dell G3. Wat do Jow Forums?

What's the best way to backup your internal hard drive's content to your NAS on Linux and Windows?

* btrfs/zfs send-receive
* dd piped over ssh to an image file
* rsync
* make a tar.gz with all of your waifu's on and then copy it somehow

They block that shit. You can only lurk.

>* btrfs/zfs send-receive
About this, are btrfs/zfs worth using over ext4 if you're hoarding data and what would be the downgrades compared to ext4?

How do I connect an old hard drive to my new PC? How/where do I see the old data? Does it appear in the "Connected devices" section, you click on it and can view or copy old files onto your new hard drive?
Thanks

It's just another hard drive, listed next to your main shit but with a different letter. If it doesn't show up, you may need to assign a letter.

SATA to USB connector, or open up the shit and connect it via SATA. Depends on whether you want to permanently add it to the computer.

Even when the hard drive is 20 something years old? Is there a standard for hard drives so they connect to newer PCs?

Does anyone happen to know if private individuals can make purchases in Dells business store? I'm eyeing one of their laptops.

It’s only for limited time usage. Like, viewing some old files, copying important ones and throwing the hard drive in the trash afterwards.

Then neighbours wifi will do it, ty

Software wise no different, although if it predates SATA you may need an ide adapter.

If it's that old it probably uses an IDE connector. You just neet an IDE to SATA adapter or an external IDE enclosure. Who knows if the drive still works though if it was used extensively.

Is there an echo in here?

What's the first cpu to have implemented an automatic underclock when on standby?

In here?

whats a vpn chain and how do I do it
