realize you now have a time sink OS, and install Tumbleweed

Attached: r.png (461x348, 38K)

it's headless, nigga.

oh nice, wanna do a suicide pact together?

install gentoo

Play supertuxkart

sure. you suck my dick, and i kill you...then i'll return the favor.

i think a good number of gentoomen are switching to arch lately.....

You learn how to take fucking screenshots you pleb

I used to use Arch, I just wanted to see what else the OTHER "diy" distro could teach me.

I think Gentoo's custom kernel thing and portage are technically cool, but I'm not sure how useful they are to me. If I lose too much time having to fiddle with them I'll either go back to Arch or just to Debian or something.

You are now the fastest penguin.
How do you feel?

...unwashed...and I think my male hymen has grown back.

> 232
How does it even operate??

how many does a nigga need?

>Mordor
Sick name.

Unless you just want to use cli applications, install xorg and a de such as xfce. How long did it take you? I plan on installing gentoo myself soon.

Attached: Screenshot1.png (1280x1024, 1.01M)

Three sesh's of like 90min each. I could have done it faster if I was rushing, but I was listening to podcasts and stuff, taking my time.

Too much or too little? This is a fresh install, basically the only thing I did to it is configure wifi and install neofetch. I also didn't deviate from the stock kernel settup too much, so there might be a lot of stuff on there I don't need.

Actually, here's what you want to do next.
>install sudo
>install xorg so you could actually take a screenshot
>install either i3 or a de. xfce should run fine on your ThinkPad
And then
>Rice your gentoo
And once you're done with that, actually start using your laptop. You bought a laptop because you needed it for work, school, or some browsing, yes?

Attached: be6.jpg (600x450, 139K)

Try to compile KDE + chromium.

Next you learn how to take a screenshot you retard

Install all the packages you need and then use it.

Source on that wallpaper

>kde
>chromium
don't fucking waste your time OP. pick something lighter like a light desktop environment or (the smarter choice) a window manager. big bloated desktop environments like gnome and KDE take ages to compile and pull in a ton of dependencies also stay a billion miles away from chromium but that's already obvious

On my last distro I used dwm and qutebrowser. I was thinking of something a bit thicker than dwm, but honestly I got around it fine. Might try cinnamon.

feel free to do so then. I'm just saying this because lighter things are much easier to deal with on gentoo

Yeah...I'm at the 1-hour mark of installing neovim (+31 deps) right now and I'm starting to see that...

Install Solus and actually just use the laptop.

Is that the chick from kitty grade? Eclair I think her name was

install libreboot

Install Ubuntu

>Three sesh's of like 90min each
>on a core 2 duo
Stop lying, faggot. It took you at least three days.

>falling for Jow Forums memes
Idiot

Are you retarded? I installed Gentoo on a t60 with a core duo in less than a day.

Yeah, the bare system without a single extra package, such as X, a WM/DE, web browser, music player, office suite, etc. In other words without the things for which you install an OS. Don't be a disingenuous faggot.

>switching to arch
Only if they've suffered major head trauma. Why would anyone go back to pacman once they've seen the light of portage?

Install:
>urxvt
>i3
>ncmpcpp
>cmatrix
Rice the above and post in desktop/*fetch threads.

this desu. before I used gentoo I used arch and after using portage and seeing how stable gentoo really is I fully switched to it

How do you rice those?

heck yes famalamsenpiakun

Attached: Dr_Sheldon_Cooper.jpg (754x1248, 33K)

copy and past dotfiles you steal from Jow Forumsunixporn

Go play outside instead of slouching over your laptop in the dark

fuck how do I run Skyrim on Gentoo

He actually did it the absolute madman

>meme
Why are you such a pleb? Try Gentoo and come back to post again.

You'll need i3wm, mocp, ranger, mpv and urxvt.
>plebbit

it's not hard at all user. it just takes a while

>plebbit
oh noe user's is implying i visit a website that isn't 4chins

not him but you're a faggot
go back

Attached: 1532910368077.jpg (1080x1704, 597K)

now it's time for Linux from Scratch

WIll I see any degradation in performance using a 4GB dimm in one channel and 2x2GB in my second channel versus using 4x2GB in dual channel?

sorry meant to post this in sqt in my other tab :^)

Yes

use it until an emerge or update trashes it, then wipe it off your drive and start over

you have to be an idiot to trash the install but to be fair I'm sure everyone that uses this trashed their first install

this

>install xorg so you could actually take a screenshot
install scrotty

fucking /thread

That will just make him come back a week later once it finishes compiling asking how come startx isn't working.

uninstall gentoo

Make a carbon copy backup of the drive so you don't have to install gentoo again if you fugg it

savage
youtube.com/watch?v=A9mbCNs47FI

Wtf is wrong with chromium?

Is gentoo easy to update?
Are the packages bleeding edge?
Is it as simple as running pacman?

it takes literally AGES to compile and I rather deal with the firefox botnet instead of the google botnet
yeah. emerge -uD @world
if you use the testing branch
almost

Don't do this, follow the directions to make a stage4 tarball so you can just unpack that shit any time you want to install Gentoo.

>2018
>not using a wayland compositor

>wake up at 3pm
>my shitpost from last night isn't archived yet

Well that's new. I'm seriously considering jumping ship on Gentoo though. The features are cool, but they're very time consuming and I don't think I really need them. I don't actually care if my system is running at perfect efficiency, I just wanted to learn about Nux.

What the fuck is the difference

post install is the worst. after that compile times shorten and it's very comfy

>stable

Attached: pPdNZ3c.jpg (818x503, 159K)

Install bb
Recompile entire system due to poor life choices
Run bb

Attached: 4L_8g3DdJpd.jpg (640x425, 46K)

Libreboot, install a gnu approved distro and get it signed by Stallman.

buy more ram you cheap bastard
