nothing

everything

something

if you mean mobile vr then the answer is simple -> phones. Nonbrainlet vr is doing fine though

Still needs 10 years.

VR was shit from day one and people are finally waking up to that fact.

VR is getting better each day, have you tried the htc or rift? If you didn't like them then wait for the rift 2

entrepreneur here. from day 1 I knew it would fail to be mass adopted.

It would OF MAYBE worked only if you dont need a set stuck to your head and would be built in tv screen. same goes for 3d

Consumers wanted Houdini-tier VFX but games are still not as polished when it comes to mocap and lighting.

>being actually and seriously retarded

VR is only worthwhile if you have either a huge amount of space and an omnidirectional treadmill or flight/driving sim rig.

a boomer might be able to click on the vr button on the tv remote but no way will the boomer install a head contraption to watch a film

>all the hate on vr hmds and probably haven't even fapped in honey select vr

It's the exact same garbage. There is zero advantage to having VR. It's a gimmick.

Let it die.

please stop trying to talk, you are really embarrassing yourself

Boomers are as good as dead anyways, who cares if they are able to adapt to new tech

you are a boomer if above age 24.

I don't get why VR shited towards these weird games without movement, where you click to move and it teleports you. wtf.

I just wanted VR 3D visuals with regular keyboard+mouse control. Is that too hard to accomplish?

>I just wanted VR 3D visuals with regular keyboard+mouse control. Is that too hard to accomplish?
Find a friend with oculus\vive and ask him to run Quake 1 in VR for you.
Get ready to barf. I have 0 motion sickness and still fell... not good after hour of quake in VR

Boomer is a state of mind. Being under 24 makes you a millenial, which is worse than a boomer.

i think vr is garbage but ar could really be something
imagine some kind of multiplayer zombie survival game setted in your area, would totally be into that
but vr with limited space that's coming with your room and everything, nah

Everything else bescides porn at the momment is just a fancy extra. If you are not in a private tracker its gotta suck tho.

Small game developers can only create mediocre titles due to budget and talent constraints which cater to a very small market share.

>and

VR games are not profitable enough due to small market share so large game developers are not willing to create a dedicated VR game. Instead they contribute to the problem by porting previous titles that were never developed with VR in mind and further damage the VR brand.

Simple...
> SJWers and Liberals
I'm not joking and you have to understand something very deep and true to appreciate this answer...

Just about every sound technological advancement that has ever lasted was developed and culturally established by "nerds" FIRST. What is a 'nerd'? A person who passionately and truthfully cares about something. For this to occur, there has to be actual substance. What went wrong w/ VR is... They thought they could mainstream something first before ensuring it caught on w/ the nerds. Dam nearThere all of the people into this platform are latte liberals w/ ADHD. There is no culture. There is no community. There is no 'killer app'. It's a languishing platform with a bunch of SJW type game developers w/ a platform most prominently presided over by Fuckbuck. Carmack joined teams w/ the devil and him and his developer got rich because of it. Too bad, they also ensured their platform died by cashing out too early.

VR could have been something in this span of time but there was no effort to cultivate a REAL community.

You can't datamine/manipulate your way into this. You never will be. If you try, you'll have a hollowed out platform and user base that will languish...

THE
FUCKING
END

Didn't that annoying beared nu-male faggot quit his Tested job to pursue VR? I hope he killed himself.

Boomer like nigger describes a state of mind. You are one if you have such a mindset. There's something to be said about a pitiful generation of youths who can't even meme properly nor understands the ones that have already been established.

Sounds fucking retarded. As I stated already, there is no TRUE culture/community surrounding it which is why it dies and appears retarded. SJW/Liberal Shekel seeking faggots thought they could create this using analytics/marketing and SURPRISE they were wrong.

pol is leaking again

VR is cool.

Onward, beat saber, h3vr, ss, superhot is GREAT.
I had so many friends who where blabin "room is too small! Monitors on eyes! Motion sick!" and everyone of them had fun once they tried

It has nothing to do w/ small/large. It has to do with creating a genuine experience that captures the user and slowly begins building a community. The whole gaming industry has been cobbled into candy crush like low IQ apps and has been hollowed out by sjw/liberal/sensitive faggots. There's no edge/There's no 'escape'. The VR experiences these fruit cups create is akin to the nightmare they subject people to IRL. No one actually wants this in a gaming experience. This is why shit will fail whether on a large/indie scale. Indie used to mean something.. It implied a passionate/genuine person. Then it was filled w/ fucking faggots emulating a trendy meme. There's no 'heart' in the platform or games... You can't resolve this with marketing and money. There's always been a consequence to being an empty twat. It rears its head in these ways.

It'll only be true VR when they allow you to plug in your consciousness, Matrix style. And who's gonna be the first to early adopt that shit? By the time the actual cool shit VR comes out and is safe, most of us'll probably be dead.

You agree that the "kno de way" meme was created by VR companies?

motion sickness

Truth will never be favored but it will always underlie the salient aspects of reality. Ignore it at your own peril. The reality is, what was stated is exactly why VR has failed and will continue to fail. You can ignore this however much you like. It doesn't change reality. Call it /pol or whatever you need to in order to brush a hard truth you can't stomach aside. It will come knocking every morning

*truth is leaking again

Nothing

jet fuel can't melt meme beams

You havent try Vive or Oculus, right?

Motion sickness is non existatnt, if you can run stable 90 FPS and have healty body

this

Proprietarism and walled gardens.

^this too

fat people

It being shoveled to phones rather than pc's

Nothing, it's still enthusiast tier stuff. We need a few more innovations for it to become cheaper (console cheap) and maybe the next gen consoles need to support it. Then every normie will get a headset.

Nobody want to put on a helmets to play.
Just like kids wont put on helmet to ride bikes.

The offering isn't compelling enough in it's current form. It'll fix eventually, but it's nowhere close now. It's too expensive, too clunky, little content and the content that exists isn't that great. I really like Battlezone for PS4... but I feel like I'm playing the equivalent of the Vic20 port of some game from the 80's... you can see the potential but it's not there. yet.

A VR cinema is my preferred way of watching movies now.

>would OF
seriously, why are you doing this to me?

But the screen you're watching is basically 480p-tier. You could just buy a shitty projector and then you don't have to wear VR glasses for 2 hours.

It's actually closer to 720p. And I do have a projector but prefer using the HMD.

theytriedtosellitwithproninsteadofi\/idya

dumb gimmicks being dumb gimmicks

its still too expensive, the computers are getting cheaper (considering a pc can be used for more things than a display its cheaper per value provided)

I think people will get very interested in VR once the screens are good enough to replace monitors, then shelling out $600 doesn't seem too bad as it means unlimited displays

I use my headset daily. Shit's amazing. Only poorfags hate on VR.

i have a $5 vb box and a s8, only thing worth watching for now is porn, but there are only pov videos :(

Maybe I'm wrong but it seems VR is not advertised or promoted all. It's just kind of there, devices are non-existent at the big box stores like Target and Mal mart. I never see massive marketing campaigns of people with bricks in her/his faces. VR seem want nerd audiences because youtube videos show tons of inconvenience like walking around everywhere, attending live events etc. It's a vision of VR escapism that appeals to the generic turbo-nerd audience more than a reflection of what it's likely to be like.

And right now you need $1000 USD of hardware to run a device with a relatively low res display, unnatural field of view, and bulky, uncomfortable cables/headgear. If we had the Ready Player One's VR that anyone could afford, we would have someone developing a massive VR world today.

Does anyone have studies on how eyesight is affected staring into an illuminated screen few feet from your face?

I would love to use those immersive VR desktops for 10 hours a day, but I feel in my gut it's not safe.

It's failing because nobody actually goes full board with it.

>would of
it's "would've", you dunce.

Nothing, VR is doing fine. Oculus, HTC and Sony combined are selling a million units every quarter, and many VR experiences could even be considered mainstream, such as VRchat, and porn.

Of course it's not ubiquitous yet, I don't think anyone expected first gen devices to be. But the futures still looks bright.

We're like 3 GPU generations away from hardware that can actually push absolutely anything and everything VR can offer

8k at 144hz per eye is still not there yet

You sound like someone who dropped a grand on a setup and doesn't want to admit it's dead in the water. All VR has completely lost any steam it had in 2016.

It's not about it being ubiquitous..
It's about it achieving a major function and having a killer App. VR Porn is a meme and a gimmick I've heard. No one actually wants POV which is why they watch Porn in the first place for 3rd person perspectives. Again, these are all products of dimwits not knowing fuck all about their audience and use case. I think its great that the technology is being furthered but this idea that there's some burgeoning community of users having amazing experience is nonsense.

same thing that happens to every interesting idea in the internet age. "tech" reporters hype it to no end, manufacturers join in, the product ends up being too expensive and not ready because it is rushed to market to capitalize on the "hype", it fails and we move on to next thing, and if we're lucky someone sticks with it and delivers in about 10 years.

>VR
>Its actually just playing videos infront of my eyes
>$500 for this shit
It was a gimmick that was to fail. Nothing to see here. VR might have a better chance if fully immersive one comes some day.

The problem was not the 500, the problem was you need a full master race PC on top, not just any PC

Nothing at all vr (not the shitty phone kind) is fucking awesome

Your mom's abortion

>I've heard.
Yeah... I don't think you should be in this discussion if you haven't even tried it. I have and it's absolutely not a gimmick. VR does have a major function and killer app. Several, in fact. I already mentioned two of them: Porn and VRchat.

i like how he is holding himself up with his back paws. smart kitter.

Devs don't know what to do with it and customers don't know what they want with it. The hype made people believe it would be the future for everything and everything, but reality later sunk in. On top of this it requires expensive hardware while being costly by itself.
Dumbass Americans gotta shoehorn their little culture war into everything

It's too expensive for mass adoption. Try again in 5 years.

This tech would've been amazing for a resurgence of arcade gaming.

Or even at theme parks / simulation parks. Can you imagine getting together with some friends in some isolated pods playing vidya fully immersed? People would be willing to pay very good money for the experience.

being born a ginger faggot

VR is pretty lucky in this regard, companies have been developing it for the vertical market (medical, science, military, etc) forever and they will continue, regardless of whether consumers buy it or not.

We can actually blame Palmer Luckey for bringing VR out of the oven before it was ready, although who can blame him, he walked away from it with billions.

I really want a good motion simulator to go with VR. It's obvious that walking locomotion is not going to be solved any time soon, so companies should be focusing on seated VR, but apparently everyone wants to jog in place or teleport like a retard.

Tech would be amazing if they just made some good games that weren't """VR experiences""", 90s-style 3D chatrooms, waggle-to-kill RPGs, and teleport 'n shoot FPS garbage.

I'd love more games that could be played seated with a controller. Space combat simulators, mech games, shit like that. Hell, I think even 3rd person games would be amazing, imagine something like Final Fantasy where you're observing battles in VR from the camera's perspective where you could actually feel the scale of the enemies and the spells that are going off.

Says no one who has actually used a proper VR system

Onions

I fully agree.

> Dumbass Americans gotta shoehorn their little culture war into everything
More like Well to do privileged faggots personally enjoy making people suffer to their twisted world views. The gaming industry used to be the opposite : It used to be an escape from the faggot tier conditions of the broader world.

Anyone know much about headsets?

Currently just using a cheap turtle beach x12, its like 5 years old. Does buy a $100 headset make much different?

>sword combat game
>stick out controller
>obviously no physical resistance
>sword just clips through everything and sticks into enemy

So, this is immersion...

Just get the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap! Only $99.99!

It's not needed. The problem with VR is that most who try it get to demo for a couple of minutes in a social setting and are put off by the initial disorientation plus groupthink of observers. It takes about two full days of VR use or maybe about 16 - 30 hours before your body adapts and you can use fast smooth movement without feeling sick at all.

I am completely sold on the future of VR, the technology is here and not going to just vanish like 3D tv's because of how simple implementation and integration is. Even trash tier chinese companies can make the hardware and pretty much all next gen games will run on engines that have VR built in.

>Vive Deluxe Audio Strap

this her?

This

I don't know, probably. I was just shitposting, m8. All I know about it is that they give them away free with Vive every time the thing goes on sale in lieu of actually dropping the price.

>Too expensive
>Too much installation required
>Not enough gaymens
>Motion sickness

Also were the gayms cross-hardware compatible? I don't remember.

They used test groups that included people who don't even play video games and like 20% of them got motion sickness from analog movement. Luckily a lot of developers are realizing that those studies didn't reflect the actual market buying these things and it's getting more common to see analog stick movement these days.

The Serious Sam VR remakes all have analog movement. I've played through all of them with no problems. Pretty comfy honestly because I could just play while seated and spin around in my chair.

Pretty much all worthwhile games are released on all platforms as it is. The Vive has the largest library. Probably 95% of the Oculus Rift games can be played on the Vive using Revive, which integrates nicely with SteamVR. The Windows Mixed Reality headsets can play about 90% of the Steam library by installing Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR which is still in beta and getting constant updates. They can also access the Oculus Rift library through Steam using Revive, as you would with a Vive. As far as I'm aware, only Windows Mixed Reality headsets can access the Windows Store VR content, but there's literally nothing on there worth mentioning.

So yeah, it's a little awkward and there are a few exceptions, but all content can be played on all headsets. It should get better with time too since everyone except Oculus is pushing towards unification.

>retard here

I am enjoying my headset very much. I use it daily playing Recroyal get my adrenaline pumping.

>VBjin-OVR Virtual Boy emulation in immersive mode

Perfection.

if real users are so hardcore, they should go directly for 4-pole galvanic vestibular stimulation, which simulates acceleration in any direction using electrodes in the head.
Then you could have movements as abrupt as usual in first person games without any vr nausea

Price too high
Software quality too low

Or you could just get an omni-directional treadmill if it bothers you that much.

God damn it, I have not had such a harty chuckle in a long time. Thank you.
