I just started a new job and im learning thier backend and business. So they have a frontend application for sales and a database. But wait, theres a configurator level between the two. Theres an excel file that handles all the calculations for the sales.
This is retarded right? I can not think of one simple reason why they do this. I talked to my boss for a couple hours about it and he said it comes down to accessibility.

I got a refrusbished g13 for $50 and as I thought, something was off, the bottom right "mouse" key doesn't work. Everything else however is flawless. seeing that there are 25 plus buttons and I got a pretty great deal on it, I know it may seem picky to send it back, especially since its such a minor flaw. But they've offered to replace it. I just hope they don't bait and switch me and give me a refund (amazon seller), or take forever to ship it (it did take 2 weeks to arrive). What do y'all think? I also bought a 1 dollar insurance plan that covers it for 4 years, do you think it would be better to contact them and get them to repair it? Interestingly enough the insurance guy said I could do like a 3 way call between them amazon and me and bypass the reseller..seems like a lot of options here

give me any reason to migrate over to quantum FF instead of sticking to 52 ESR one
I can delete files from my eHDD, it's in read only mode, what should I do? I already tried chown -R.
There is no reason, modern Firefox sucks, if you want to switch, switch to Waterfox or Palememe.
Matthew White
If it's mounted read only, remount it rw. If that fails, check dmesg to see why. Maybe it needs fsck, maybe it's damaged.

I have an old all in one pc I want to make into a server for both media files and socioboard. Should I upgrade the ram? It only has 4gb ddr3 right now.

Got a new laptop the other day. Noticed it had a TB3-enabled USB-C port. Thinking of getting an eGPU set-up for it, but my better judgement keeps telling me to buy a separate PC instead even though I may never use it. $600-$700 budget.
tl;dr buy an eGPU with 1060 or build a PC (most likely with a cheaper GPU)?

I was planning on using SigaVPN and was wondering if anyone on Jow Forums has used it, and how fast is it. (i.e. how much will my connection suffer, I get 4mb/s down.)

Should i worry about keeping my backup drive always connected to my pc in case a virus can delete them? i don't have any antivirus except the built-in windows defender, because i just make incremental backups every day plus a full backup every week or so, and i just rollback whenever my computer fucks up
Julian Garcia
I need a good Antivirus. No faggot Common Sense doesn't work.
Matthew Sanders
Yes. A NAS has the same issue. Ransomware can and will encrypt external disks and network drives it can see and has access to.
Nathan Williams
You should have an offline backup in addition to a hot backup. if neither of these offer redundancy you should have 2 offline that are in different locations.
Jose Collins
Security Essentials on Windows 7, Defender on 8-10.
Liam Nelson
>This is retarded right? At my work when we make a sale we have to input it into our new software we just got a few months ago, an excel spreadsheet, and a physical ledger book. We also have to save the excel sheet on a server then print out the excel sheet and keep it in a binder. We have to record the same sale like 8 different fucking ways and there's no reason for it other than that's what your boss wants. Welcome to the corporation
Angel Howard
so, do i *have* to backup to an external hard drive and disconnect it whenever it's not being used or does some software exist that somehow lets me backup my pc and keep the hard drive secure from viruses? >that are in different locations bit overkill for me, i mostly just don't want to reinstall windows 10 every time i install something from rutracker
Sebastian Rodriguez
backing up your computer
Lucas Nguyen
what os are you on? what filesystem is the hard drive? have you recently switched os's or distros or changed something with the hard drive?
Angel Carter
Well you can kinda fake that if you put stuff on a NAS and use a filesystem that supports snapshots. You'll need to have some system of taking snapshots regularly and removing old ones, then you rollback in the event of ransomware. Or just mount one of them to grab something out of it if you deleted the wrong file or something.
If you don't understand what I just said then you need to keep offline backups.
It should just be written to the database once. And calculations should be done server side calling stored procedures. Having all that handled in excel makes no sense to me.
Anthony Sanders
Where can i find oneechan now?
Levi Edwards
Arch. FAT32. Not really.
Julian Martin
>external hdd backup There is software that can sit idle and will fuck anything you plug in to it via usb rendering your system dead as well as your external.
You should have: A system backup, weekly is ok A user data backup, anything that you cant easily replace.Daily an offline system backup, again weekly is fine. an offline user data backup, daily
If neither of these have redundancy(raid5/6) you should have a duplicate of it.
Luke Stewart
What's an easy raspberry pi project I can do? Already made a raspberry pi and kind of want to do something else.

Another way is a cloud based backup service. This will also count as an offsite backup and can protect your data even if all your equipment is wiped out from lightning strike, or your house burns down.

Lucas Nelson
Why is Jow Forums X suddenly making me fill captchas now? It never used to do this, I just Check the box and post.
Michael Wilson
are you on ethernet or wifi? you should be using ethernet if you need a constant stable connection, if ethernet is absolutely not an option then try getting a better router.
Jackson Stewart
I really doubt its the issue, considering I tried it with 1000 bitrate
Speedtest shows 138/10.93Mbps Ethernet, never use wifi unless im on a phone
Charles Carter
post your partitions, preferably a screenshot of the disk in gparted >1000 bitrate perhaps having such a low bitrate is the issue? i could explain but just try bumping up the bitrate
Isaiah Phillips
Bitrate doesnt matter, Ive tried 1-6k
Luke Young
Can someone answer this? Someone said 4chanX prevents captchas and now im getting captchas after a few days of usage?

It's basically pic related. Some dude said with installing 4chanX there wouldn't any captchas and that was true, for like a few days

I need a program that can freeze entire screen with a shortcut, may be take a screenshot and display it on top of all windows until a second shortcut is pressed. There's this game that moves it's hud constantly, and it's really hard to read the text. webm is sped up to show how interface moves with time please help
>with installing 4chanX there wouldn't any captchas and that was true It wasn't related to 4chanX at all. Hiro stopped supporting legacy captcha earlier than when Google dropped it, so as a compensation you could sometimes post without filling captcha.

Javascript runs on web browsers and web pages. You can create an html file with embedded javascript or have a javascript file that your html loads
Open the html file in a browser and the javascript will run. Note the script tags below had to be edited in order to post

Ok bros I need some help on this one.
I have a 1060 6GB and didn't think this through when I ordered this monitor but I already have my DVI hooked up to another monitor.
Here are the ports my 1060 has left >Displayport >3x HDMI
Can displayport or HDMI get converted to DVI?
Here's the back of the new monitor I bought. It's a 2007FP dell. I wanted a 4:3 monitor.
ever since i updated quantum to 61 my webm player is broken. all html5 players work fine, but webm controls on Jow Forums (and other websites like sakugabooru) arent responsive. i can hide them, loop, mute and speed up the clip, but not any of the the functions that are exclusive to the control overlay (jumping forward, adjusting volume etc.). anyone got an idea how to solve this?
Anthony Howard
I am running Android Oreo and I want to run a game in forced split screen. For that I need to enable Developer mode, but the game would not run if it detects the phone in developer mode or has USB debugging on.
What do?

Are OMRON micro switches interchangeable?
For example, can I put D2FC-F7-K or D2F-01F-T if my mouse came with D2FC-F7-N switches?
I'm currently trying to learn data structures and algorithms. I'm not new to coding, but I'm trying to take things to the next level. It feels silly using Python to build out stacks and queues and linked lists. Should I pick up something lower level (C, Java) while I'm trying to do this?
Gabriel Anderson
You don't have to, but it definitely provides a deeper look at the subject than python can give you.
Anthony Jones
Encryption is on the fly, so it happens as you use it. You don't decrypt the whole thing to use it. It reads blocks and decrypts them as you read them. If you write, it encrypts on the fly.
Encrypting it to begin with takes time. Typically you copy all the files off it, format it with LUKS/dm-crypt, mkfs, then copy your files back.
Ethan Garcia
When webdevs talk about 'full stack' development or what 'stack' they use, what the fuck are they talking about? I only fuck with client side back end stuff.

Let's remind everyone that bootman died shortly after that photo was taken by his friend.
Dominic Diaz
Then you cannot run that in split screen. Some apps are like that.
Noah Rodriguez
Is flatpak reddit
Nathaniel Gutierrez
No, though there may be some differences. -HDMI can carry audio and ethernet; DVI cannot -HDMI-connected devices may be labeled as "Digital Television" instead of a monitor model -HDMI has an "IT content" flag that tells some displays to turn off some image enhancements and overscan; DVI doesn't have this flag so if you connect such a display to a DVI port, you might be stuck with "enhancements" on
Cameron Thomas
Pirate better and it will be unlocked. A properly pirated Windows thinks it's fully activated, and does everything. You can also change these settings before you ever let an unactivated Windows see the internet. Or you can change them in the registry and then log out to apply them.
>client side back end stuff also this doesn't make sense. Client-side -> front-end, server-side -> back-end
Brandon Walker
I'll try here before polluting /dpt/.
Is buildyourownlisp good now? I've read that back in the day it was a poor intro to C because it depended of external libraries or something like that.
In case that it still sucks, can anyone suggest similar projects where either you learn c (or c++) to build another language or any piece of software?
Thanks.
Landon Long
>it depended of external libraries or something like that. c fags tend to have an insane obsession with reinventing the wheel for every single task and never using external libraries whenever possible. buildyourownlisp looks reasonable to me in this respect. However in general I'm not completely sold on the wisdom of trying to learn a language at the same time as building another one.

Is there a way to get phones (iphone or android) to display the system time in seconds or miliseconds? I need to sychronize some clocks.

I am not gonna look myself, but feel pretty confident that there are probably dozens of apps for each that do this.

i want to buy a "gaming laptop". I know that no serious gamers play on a laptop. But I just want to play games I have like WoW, Minecraft, Elder Scrolls on it that can run decently fast and look good. Right now I'm looking at a laptop with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card, which seems decent enough. But the processor speed is 2.3 GHz and its i5 instead of i7. Are those too low, to get decent performance, or should it be pretty sufficient for most mid-tied games? With these settings would I be able to run games like WoW, Minecraft, Skyrim at mostly full settings?
Chase Bennett
I've got a stupid question about bash.
Say I've got these files all together in a directory:
Now, I know I could do something like mv frame[0001-0004].dpx ../newdir/ to move a specific range of continuously numbered files, but what if I'm dealing with thousands of files in unknown chunks of continuous numbering? Is there a way I can glob the chunks of continuously-numbered files as a group, so I can iterate over them in a for loop (such as to TAR each chunk of files in their own tarball)?
>both of those literally too dumb to be an arch kiddie but you'll still screech "i use arch btw" by any measure though they're both decent at what they're trying to accomplish would nudge towards manjaro though
