ITT: last two phones you used + short review

Moto G 7/10
Nov 2013 - May 2017
>great bargain
>stock android
>shit camera
>specs quickly obsolete

KeyOne 9/10
May 2017 -
>god bless a real keyboard
>epic battery life
>speaker really quiet

Attached: IMG_5322.jpg (2048x1536, 776K)

I'd have continued using the Moto G if I didnt fuck it up completely (dropped it from a rooftop). I tend to use technology to its last breath.

>qwertz
fuck off you nazi

Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017)
>great bang for the buck
>5" and thus easy to reach with 1 hand
Broke the screen because i'm an idiot

LG V30
>insanely good camera if you know what youre doing
>meh 4K screen
>fast enough for almost all apps
>good connectivity
>sturdy (mil grade certified)
Really like the V30 so far. Using it since March, no bootloops so far, pretty reliable.

that reminds me...
Blackberry should have given us our Umlaute "ä", "ö" and "ü"! Kind of a hassle to replace them.

That's a wild ass guess, most of eastern-Euro uses QWERTZ too.

Fuck BlackBerry and their upgrade politics. I'm stuck with Android 6 on my DTEK60

Explain

No

Nokia Lumia 930
>Fucking piece of shit
>No software
>Even native one is a buggy shit
>Really nice and fluent interface
4/10

Google Pixel
>Silky smooth
>Bad screen-to-body ratio
>Excellent display
>Best Android phone I've used
8/10

Well event though they promised to give us Android 7 for DTEK50 and 60 owners they decided against it afterwords lol. Bootloaders are locked on all blackberries so fuck them, I'm stuck with 6

>"ä", "ö" and "ü"!
And here's another reason why hardware buttons suck on mobile devices.

- xperia z3c - very nice, killed by weak shitty adhesive and peeling lens coating after two years
- xperia z5 - super shitty wifi (fuck you sony), never really used it because of that

LG G2
2015-2017
Literal flagship for $200. One of the first small bezel phones. Still great with custom ROMs, gave it to my mom. The display on mine had a yellow spot the grew bigger when it heats up, no issues once I swapped it for another. Shit camera, but they all were back then.
1+5
2017-now
The last 1+ with non-meme display. Great custom ROM support. Great battery life, especially for a flagship. No hardware issues. Camera is alright, lacking OIS but EIS is noticeable. The custom ROM I use supports the official camera, but not all of them do, and I'm yet to see phones other than from 1+ that have such ROMs at all.

I disagree right there. I prefer not typing on a display. I am slow and never hit the right keys, the "haptic feedback" uses battery.

I type 2-3x as fast on my Blackberry's keyboard even though I have kinda rough hands.

> I am slow and never hit the right keys,
Use swiping.
Also, on-screen allows for custom layouts and multiple languages.

>and never hit the right keys
You don't have to.
>haptic feedback
Disable it.

Yes?

US/Netherlands = QWERTY
France = AZERTY
Germany/east-Euro = QWERTZ

Galaxy S4 since 2014, still using it because customs hold my OnePlus 6.

Zenfone 2 (ZE551ML 4GB/64GB) 8/10
Jun 2015 - Aug 2017
>Unbeatable price:performance
>Good 3rd party ROM support
>Speaker on back kinda lame
>No fingerprint sensor
>Screen could be brighter

LG V10 (H901 4GB/64GB) 9/10
Aug 2017 - Present
>This screen size omg muh dik
>Industrial design is great, love the rugged back and steel side rails
>That 32bit DAC, my ears are cumming
>Second screen is great what with the flashlight and sound toggle
>Great camera
>Replaceable battery
>Single down-firing speaker sux, pretty loud tho
>Died to boot-loop but LG fixed it for free even though I bought it refurb on Amazon
>Basically no 3rd party ROM community, I miss Root + XPosed and LineageOS
>I'll be sad when I have to replace it when it inevitably boot-loops again.

Galaxy S4 9/10
Dec 14 - April 17
>gorgeous screen
>great design
>okay performance, only went to shit in the last months
>Samsung software had stuff like Multi Windows years before stock Android
>last few updates were for planned obsolescence
>great custom rom support
>shit battery life though being removable made up for it
Moto G5 Plus 7/10
April 17 -
>amazing performance
>amazing battery life
>mediocre screen
>screen has visible horizontal lines (pic is a bit exaggerated though)
>absolutely shit software, microphone drops out, camera doesn't work
>Moto gestures are great but don't make up for the current state of the software
>still on 7 despite being promised 8 in fucking January
>rom support is mediocre, no official LOS, bugs with common flash, boot and recovery software
>no compass makes navigation an adventure

If it wouldn't be for the good performance I would drop this trash immediately, never will I listen to shit again like "stock is always better" "stock will get faster updates" "it will get good custom support in the future trust me"

Any recommendations for something better?

Attached: large.jpg (562x999, 42K)

no, but qwertz is superior.

LG G5
> Terrible battery, fingerprint on back pig disgusting
> Can't even put a fucking custom ROM on it
> Literally the worst phone I've ever touched in my fucking life

2 weeks later I threw it out and bought a oneplus3
> Opposite experience
> Still works over 2 years later can hardly even tell a difference in day to day usage

I will never buy another LG product it is the phone of the pajeet

>non-meme display
It has the "installed upside down"-meme display

Galaxy Note 5
Sep 2015 - April 2018
>Beautiful screen
>Update frequency is shit

Galaxy J3 Luna Pro
>Tolerable screen
>Removable battery
>Good battery life
>No fingerprint sensor
>Shit back/front camera

Acer Liquid Zest 4G
2/10
>piece of trash

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X
9/10
>fast
>looks good
>okay camera (with Google Camera port)
>great support for custom ROMs
>massive battery
>absolute bargain for sub-200$
>nice IPS screen
>pretty sturdy (dropped it quite a lot, no very noticeable marks)
>speaker kinda quiet

iPhone 8
>First time using iOS in at least six years
>Enjoyed the Apple watch well enough but I don't think I'll miss it
>The screen, battery life and speakers are all what I would call good
>After a while I miss Android and Clover
7/10

Razer Phone
>The screen and battery life are amazing
>Love the size of the phone
>Speakers are big and loud
>I don't really play mobile games except when people ask to see how well games run on it
>Unlocked buttoon/fingerprint scanner on the side
>Camera is getting better with updates but it's not that great
9.5/10 Best phone I've ever used

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro
2016-2018
>great price
>flashed lineage
>perfectly good performance
>amazing battery life
>a little heavy and bulky

Samsung Galaxy S9
>expensive
>Touchjizz isn't that bad anymore
>great performance, makes you realize how underpowered a lot of android devices are
>trash battery life
>nice build
>beautiful screen

all in all I'd say I felt less cheated with the Xiaomi.
Battery life is just too important.

Freetel Musashi (pic related)
2/10
>could only stand it for two weeks
>godawful battery
>keyboard was almost useless because it always clashed with android shit
>apps crashed frequently because not enough power
>dual screens were, however, pretty based
>bonus points for being a literal meme

XZ Premium
9.5/10
>10/10 design
>runs everything like a beast
>battery is reasonable, could be bigger imo
>using a shitty glass screen protector and plastic case, dropped multiple times and still looks brand new underneath
>slippery as shit without a case, like it slid off my couch when it was almost sitting on a flat angle
>screen could be slightly bigger given that there's a lot of bezel left over

What? Nigga this thing gets loud

Blackberry Priv 6.5/10
02/16- 01/18
>Satisfyingly tactile slider
>Decent enough specs
>Battery life is shit
>Keyboard is only okay
>Build quality is questionable

Blackberry KeyOne 9/10
01/18 - Now
>Battery lasts for days
>Keyboard almost as good as the Bold
>Rock solid build quality
>Had to pay a premium for a grey market phone to get dual sims

I can touch type paragraphs on the Keyone without looking faster and more accurately than I could ever Swype. No competition whatsoever, a physical keyboard wins hands down if you have to do any real amount of typing on a phone.

>tfw wanted a keyone but didn't want to be 'that guy' with the weird phone

>priv
Launched with Lolipop after Marshmallow released, two years of support was promised, abandoned on Marshmallow
>keyone
Still not on Oreo. Still. And Pie is right around the corner

Redmi 2 Prime
>surprisingly cheap
>pretty okay performance
>quite average camera
>everything average
>except when the rom freak out frequently
>many times the default apps couldn't open at all
>died after flashing it repeatedly

iPhone 8
>it got a nice build quality, feels solid
>runs fast, really responsive until I encounter bugs
>wow the camera looks nice
>shame on me not getting the plus version for the double camera
>wow what is this shitty ass appstore
>what do you mean all my money will gone if I switch the region
>what the fuck is this file "manager", all it does is show documents
>what do you mean I can't just download some apps and insert it to the phone just like apks

Moto G 4G March 2015 - October 2017
>best size, even though I have big hands
>stock android, great to use with Xposed
>sadly 1gb ram only

Moto G5 Plus October 2017 -
>great in every way
>cam could be better but works ok
>4 gig of ram
>does not fit nicely on my pocket
>stock android, Xposed works flawlessly

LG/Google Nexus 5
Early 2014 - Late 2017
8/10
>Fantastic price ($400 CAD)
>Stock Android
>Fast updates
>Camera was passable
>Plastic buttons broke every few weeks near the end
>Still works quick after 3 years of use

Samsung Galaxy S8
Late 2017 - Present
9.5/10
>Design, camera, and battery are all fantastic
>Tactile buttons and force touch home button
>Fucking expensive ($1400 CAD)
>Freezes and crashes sometimes occur
>This phone will last me at least 3 years

Oh yeah, I forgot to rate it
>Redmi 2 Prime
7/10 at the beginning but 5/10 towards the end
>iPhone 8
8/10 if you can stand iOS

left old, right new

left old right new*

Samsung Galaxy S3
2012 - 2016 (still occasionally use it)
>it still fucking works
>I've punched it, dropped it, dropped it in water, thrown it and it still fucking works
>looks alright

Wileyfox Swift 2016-2018
>Dual sim
>Very easy to root and install a custom OS/kernel/bootloader on
>Decent in most ways, especially for being low price
But only had it 2 years and it's starting to lag a lot worse than my S3 which has been through hell.

: )

>Galaxy Note 3 (2014-2018)
Lots of community development so lots of ROMs and tweaks to choose from. Mine had a locked bootloader so my recovery options were limited. Good specs, when running lightweight FOSS apps it was still doing okay (not great) at the start of 2018. Battery became shitty very fast, but being removable meant I could swap in a fresh battery instantly. Tbh I mainly just wanted the phone for the stylus.
>Galaxy Note 8 (2018-present)
I can't quit that fucking stylus. I learned my lesson from the Note 3 and am running lightweight FOSS apps right out of the gate in order to extend the life of the phone. No removable battery, which sucks balls, but I still have a 3.5 jack. It's a Snapdragon model on Oreo so no root, but tools have been made to work around that, so it's not a huge deal. Overall I'm really happy with it.

>I can touch type paragraphs on the Keyone without looking
>any real amount of typing on a phone
I will never understand how a shitty tiny keyboard with fixed layout is in any way better than a proper on-screen one.
Where do you look when you're typing on your phone? Also, I don't believe that pecking on tiny membrane buttons is faster than gliding you finger across the screen.

Also, "real amount of typing" should be done with a proper 10-finger keyboard.

Xperia Z3C
Idk-2017
>fast
>close to stock android
>camera was hit and miss
>waterproof

S Galaxy S8
>best phone ive ever owned
>packed with features
>it hasnt actually slowed down
>headphone jack in 2018

Don't let other people's opinions influence your decisionmaking.

I get weird looks sometimes and the occasional calculator joke, but I'm happy and most people seem a little envious :D

>I can touch type paragraphs on the Keyone without looking faster and more accurately than I could ever Swype
this

If you haven't used it, you wouldn't know.

>faster

Landscape is also not faster but it's way comfier. You never make mistakes, don't have to look at what you're typing and it's just makes typing much more pleasurable on mobile.

As for blackberry keyboards, yeah, never got used to those.

Still missing my xperya pro but fuck sony for making it with abysmal amount of super slow internal storage. Always had to fuck around with link2sd to make it work properly and it also had only 512mb of ram.

Guess I'll never understand.

Btw does normal Android have this arrow key / text highlighting tool?

Can't understand it if missed it.

>Can't understand it if missed it.
Maybe. I remember having Nokia Ngage and NgageQD that used both hands, but it was goodnly for games.
I enjoy the quality of life improvement that is current smartphones.

However, if new banana Nokia had WhatsApp, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Redmi Note 5 (4GB RAM/64 GB ROM)
July 2018 -

I am actually surprised for how good for the money this cellphone is. It may not be thin as my older phone, but the battery more than makes up for it.

Yotaphone 2 9.5/10
>Got it from banggood for less than $150. After the long awaited android update and some patches, it replaced my BB Q10. It was hands down the sexiest and most innovative smartphone of its decade, too bad I always had problems with its awkward grip so it fell on the floor one day and both screens shattered...

Samsung Note8 - 9/10
>I was never a samsung guy and never adhered to the overpriced flagship mentality. So I just happened to be lucky enough to win a Note8 last December (actually it did cost me $30). Spec wise it feels overpowered for a smartphone. The camera is nice, in fact hardware wise it's a 10, the software on the other hand.. It's full of bloatware. A custom room + root, nova launcher and the basic shit from fdroid are mandatory.

I bought that phone for my wife after she dropped her Z3. I know it was priced at just $150, but I can say for sure that the screen is dog piss with washed colors m8. The camera is also awful. But it has a great battery life and decent performance.

Attached: ScyQ7lofwkbBXB6XEAHhqPLXMyjVwmTSJjDpJFEDJSs.jpg (1079x1075, 183K)

Kinda annoying sometimes because of the strange aspect ratio.
I don't usually notice it but if you watch a lot of movies/youtube/netflix on your phone, you might want to consider another device.
On the bright side, it has an extremely high pixel density and better battery life.

Really want a Key2 or even a Key1 but I'm stuck on Verizon who apparently hates BB now. Tried to get and use the Black edition K1 and it just failed utterly.

Hindsight:

>Blackberry Classic (May 2015 to October 2016)
-same interface as my Bold 9930 but bigger
-slightly more modern conventions (search from address bar, 4G, etc)
-but shit isn't nearly as stable and takes forever to boot up and respond
-app support was crap despite some interesting BB10 exclusives (Zeus browser ftw)
-heavy as fuck but also very durable
-left it behind for want of apps

>Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (October 2016 - )
-bought used
-serviceable, does what I want
-swapping battery is savior as the charge port broke, now I have 3 official batteries and an external charger (forgot how much I missed swapping batteries)
-pen is what makes me accept the shit touch screen world
-apps are nice but I miss my keyboard and touch pad
-apple is better feeling but I know better than to listen to that snake

accidently switching to qwertz in windows freak people out :^)

If you dont live in burgerland theres A8 2018

Sony Xperia ion (2013-2018)
- trash vendor firmware
- bootloader unlock voids warranty and wipes some DRM keys and other bullshit
- didn't even release finished last firmware like they did for Xperia S
- unpolished customs that still were snappier than Sony bullshit
- annoying flap covering ports
- network issues like dropped calls
- fast charge
Still 6/10 I guess since it served me long enough.

OnePlus 5T (2018-)
- great stock firmware
- fast as fuck
- lovely AMOLED screen
- retarded audiojack placement at bottom
- low-light shots suck
- should get Q
- bootloader unlock is easy and does not void warranty
- bad case that comes with the phone that literally fucks up metal surface lol
- great battery life
At least 8/10, actually.

iPhone 5s 8/10

Moto E4+ 9/10

So glad I made the switch to Android

>I will never understand how a shitty tiny keyboard with fixed layout is in any way better than a proper on-screen one.
A shitty keyboard won't. A good keyboard will. Turns out your thumbs can feel and do more than you think they can. The keys' profile in BB keyboards lets you feel them even on small keyboard.
>Where do you look when you're typing on your phone?
Forward. I like responding to a message without the risk of walking into a truck. I actually don't type that much though so I can't touch type perfectly on my phone.

I like physical keyboards just for that they output what I type and don't make up shit. Typing accented characters in my language sucks though, because I have to rely on prediction to type fast in the end.

m8 it literally says Telekom.de as the carrier and the german word "Notfall"

What's the battery life like? I have the G6 currently but thinking about switching to the V30 because the DAC

I want a screenshot of the one on the left. It would make a great wallpaper.

LG env3
Great keyboard for its time
Shit battery door that was part of the battery, wedged paper to keep it in place

Galaxy S4
Kept alive by swapping the motherboard into new LCD assembles. Swapped daughter board twice and have anker battery.

You don't appreciate being able to look away from your phone while typing on it until you can do it. Super useful for multitasking. Also nice for looking like you're not just shitposting on Jow Forums while working - you know, only important business happens on blackberries and all, and it has to be super important if you're typing away on your bb while looking at a screen of code on your desktop.

I do it when I get really bored at work.
It's fine, honestly. I wouldn't rely on it for my only entertainment on an 8 hour flight, but you won't find it lacking for wasting time at work either.

The single biggest draw is the keyboard, the second is security if it's a business phone and you need to set up VPNs and shit. I can't really recommend the keyone otherwise.
If you want a keyboard though, it doesn't disappoint.

ITT: last two phones you used + short review
Seems to me that this became "last two phones you owned", so here goes

Blackberry Q10, bought new, 2013-2017: 9/10
>+comfy af OS, literally best mobile OS
>+cool gesture-based interface
>+perfect size, fits easily into pockets
>+great keyboard that's comfortable to type on
>+good build quality
>+good screen
>+incredible reception
>-camera is only acceptable
>-stock maps application is fucking trash
>-app support was weak from the get-go, only got worse as the years went on

iPhone 6s, bought used, 2017-present: 6/10
>+fantastic standby battery life
>+Apple has a good update and support track record
>+good screen
>+excellent camera, has replaced my point-and-shoot for day trips (even if it cannot match the DSLR)
>+iOS is fast and fairly stable, does not seem to have as many annoying bugs as Android
>+build quality is pretty good
>+access to a proper app store
>size is manageable; neither a positive nor a negative, just an observation. I think I would have been happier with an SE in this department
>-No SD card slot, although at least it has a headphone jack
>-screen on battery life is not good at all
>-reception is spotty in places where the Q10 wasn't
>-iOS is way too locked down, most of the time this is not an issue but it does feel limiting from time to time
>-iTunes rapes my CPU

Nothing will ever replace my Q10, but in terms of the overall quality of the experience, iOS comes somewhat close.

My dad has the Priv and both he and I hate it. Overheating, underperforming piece of shit with poor battery life, an okay keyboard, and a camera that is way worse than the 18 megapixels suggest. Also, they supported the Q10 for years but then dropped support for the Priv after one Android update cycle? What gives?

Google Pixel, 8/10.
>Good size, nice feel.

Nov 2013 - current
Note 3

Before that, some prepaid samsung shit, It was my first android.

I technically also have a a zenphone 3, their best flagship model but I never activated it. I got it in the chance that my current note goes to shit and dies or the connector goes bad, but still working so far.

S7 for near 2 years, S9 on day one.
Learned to live without root or custom ROMs. They are ok, but too much phone for what I do, which is shitpost and music/podcasts. Got them cheap though, so works for me.

I like my Blackberry Key2.

>battery is alright
>beautiful display
>can't root without losing DRM keys forever.
>better and faster camera, still shit at low light, slow motion capture is fun
>acceptable speaker, still kinda quiet
>still sexy af

>Would have liked more software supports/updates
>Windows 8 mobile is an okay phone OS

Blackberry Passport
Feb 2018 to present
>Cost me 85 USD
>Keyboard is great
>Speakers are serviceable; louder than expected
>Camera is abysmally slow
>BB10 is a pretty nice OS
>Would have liked to see more software support
>internet browser options are poor
>Android applications on BB10 are limited at best
>BB10 native apps all work well
>Security and customization options are excellent
>Still needs software updates

>You don't appreciate being able to look away from your phone while typing on it until you can do it.
Maybe I just don't have tunnel vision like you, guys.
Two years I've been driving and texting and haven't got in a single car crash while doing so. And I was driving in busy streets of Moscow at 80+km/h. Yet you and manage to walk into stuff.
Also, you can easily look away when swiping.

>nice for looking like you're not just shitposting on Jow Forums while working
So, you shitpost without reading the threads?

Blackberry key2
Great battery life
Keyboard isn't as bad as people claim
I wish there was a nipple and a mouse pointer so everything could be controlled from the keyboard with one hand
