x220 or x230 I can't decide

A485 FUCKING WHEN

Get the t480 MUCH better battery management!

The A485 with the 72wh battery will be good enough for me.
I'd rather lose battery longevity for a great iGPU.

The A485 looks like a perfect middle between the T480 w/ UHD 620 GPU and T480 w/ MX150 GPU in terms of battery length, power, and price.

T430 with keyboard mod

wtf am I looking at here?

Delete this

Never because Intel bribes

Doesn't the t480 get something crazy like 20+ hours on battery?

I laff'd

Yep and the A485 will get half of that

Makes me wonder why anyone would want it

Not to mention poor linux compatibility.

X230, better igpu. Keyboard doesn't matter much as it's going to be just a portable laptop, I mean you go out of your home yes?
Also the battery thing doesn't matter as you want to use only lenovo batteries.
Also the coreboot doesn't matter as you can't change the cpu, and still can be done

Looks terrible

I understand not getting an A485 over the T480, if you plan on using Linux, but if you're going to use Windows is having 20+ hours on the battery really that important compared to 10+ hours?

I'd much rather be able have the far better iGPU for more displays, better preformance in light games, and better preformance with things like 3D modeling and animation.

Plus, AMD finally caught up to Intel, so it's nice to support competition.

Budget $400-700
Something fast and reliable for school
Would like an I7.
Prefer refurbished to get more tech for my bux

I keep hearing this meme, but I don't understand.

Why would Intel give a shit if there's a Ryzen ThinkPad? I highly doubt businesses will switch to AMD over Intel.
They should be more focused on something like briding Best Buy to not stock Ryzen laptops.

>games
>3D modeling and animation on an igpu

Alright, pack it up, the shill is trolling us.

Anyone?
+Good Battery

There's plenty of people who play games, and do 3D modeling and animation on their far more capable desktops that would like to be able to have something durable and decent for doing that kind of stuff in class, at coffee shops, on the couch, in bed, etc.

Literally why would someone choose a great battery life and shit iGPU over a good battery like and great iGPU?
Do you not have a fucking outlet anywhere near you? Charging shit really isn't THAT much of an inconvicent, as long as it lasts plenty when you're out and about, which 10+ is plenty for that.

On idle, not when you do any actual work on it.

>Yep and the A485 will get half of that

I wonder if that's true under load?
Isn't it just better idle management you're missing out on?

The T440 would probably be a good fit, but I'd look more into it because I've heard of people having issues with it, but never cared much to look into the frequency or severity of those issues.

The T420 seems to be the most common bang for your buck refurbished ThinkPad, that I also very rarely see complaints about. Although, that may not have a CPU powerful enough for what you prefer.

>I wonder if that's true under load?
I've heard claims that the default two 24wh batteries will give 14+ hours of battery life under load, for the A485, so expect somewhere more realistically around 10 hours.

If you need 3D performance then why not just buy the model with dedicated graphics?

What was the last IBM ThinkPad?

T440s

You could simply get the t480 with dedicated graphics then...

Saw a Lenovo x1 carbon i5 for $300. Anyone have one? Is this a good price.

This thread is for Thinkpads, not Ultrabooks.

You left out which generation

1st gen? 3rd gen? 6th gen?

Lol makes a huge difference my dude

Unironically this but change the touchpad to the one from the t450 series

Why will the A485 have bad linux support? I thought AMD processors were supposed to be better in Linux now?

>spending $150 more for a slightly better GPU
Literally why. The A485 has a far better price to performance ratio.
It's only downside is being shit for running Linux (at least currently) and have a good battery life, rather than a great battery life.

You also ignored my question about why it even matters to have such an absurd battery life. I'd understand if the battery life was literally infinite, but no matter what you'll still have to plug that shit in and charging a laptop really isn't that much of an inconvience, as long as you're not charging it like twice a day or more, every day.

Bruh battery cycles, your batteries will degrade twice as fast.

Apparently it will mostly because of the Wi-Fi card it comes with.
Also, I'm pretty sure the Ryzen mobile APUs are still so new that Linux isn't great with it.
The A485 will probably have good Linux support, later, especially if it becomes popular in a niche of people. Although, there's no way to tell how much later that will be.

So go buy a new one in two years for $30?
It's a fucking ThinkPad, you act like it's a smartphone.

Hit the bump limit on the first TPG you retards.

You said it yourself earlier. Under load battery life is much less than the advertised max. So having the 20+ hours means in a real situation you can use your laptop for the entire work day without needing to plug it in. This doesn't matter for people who have easy access to plugs, but for some professionals it can make a huge difference.

20 hours under load is going to last much longer than 8 hours under load.

Poor driver support for the laptop peripherals

Hit the bump limit on the first TPG thread retard.

autist.

Nobody wants to look at that disgusting trannie...

no

Lmao incel being this insecure about your sexuality. Even with fake women you act like an autistic incel.
Ur mum gay

What's the highest specced Thinkpad with full support for XP 64 bit?

>but for some professionals it can make a huge difference.
>some
True, but I think for more people, a better iGPU for the same price or cheaper would be a more noticeable benefit.

no u

Im not an incel I have lots of sex with girls

No u
Anime girls lmao fucken incel.

Where can I get a reliably refurbished T43?

Nobody loves that ugly shemale creature.

My ultrabay adaptor is not detecting ssd in t430 though its connected as power indicator on adaptor blinks when starting the laptop.
Is it the adaptor problem as i checked the ssd via sata to usb enclosure?

i do

Well thats a bit sad and pathetic, so your opinion doesn't matter to us.

>us
Found the reddit fag.

Im the guy in the op picture, I don't use reddit.

Nice projection, mr. 80% suicide rate.

Just no need for trans girls to be posted.

No reason /tpg/ has to be a cringfest just because we share this board with weebo fags.

I hate anime

Join the 80% user.

Naw, I like living. I have no desire to cut off my genitals and commit suicide later.

Do it

No, like I said, I have no mental illness.

Ya'll need to calm the fuck down

But user i love anime and think that trannies should be shot on sight.

Stop recommending Chinese batteries and cables asshole. You eBay chink shit sellers are cancer along with the tranny and incel.

Thats fine just dont act like a faggot. Anime is seen as a disgusting sexual fetish to most of society.

Paid $29.99 for my t440s 68+ battery

Also used a chink battery in my x60 for years.

Genuine lenovo batteries are worthless

Fuck off you eBay seller. I hope whoever dies because of you haunts your ass and drives you to joining the 80%.

Im the dude in OP, I'd make a bad tranny

Did you respond to the wrong person, boyo? I would only ever recommend buying genuine Lenovo parts. That chink shit will sell your loli porn.

Potato nigger.

>Stop recommending Chinese batteries and cables asshole.
fuck off shekelstein i'm not falling for your jewish (((genuine))) shit

We might have to add this to the OP boys

Getting real sick of this shit

Get back on topic you fucken retard. Something something thinkpad related.

pls respond

>Ignore all tranny posts
Yeah that wont put fuel on the fire or anything..

Last week I told my neighbors kid to check out /tpg/ for laptop buying advice

Today I his father came to my door asking why I had his son looking at tranny porn

Why you do this /tpg/ ??? Is this not a laptop general?

Has anyone here replaced the wireless card on their X230 before?
Never recommend any Jow Forums board to anyone.

Does his kid think that Trapcode is cute?

nobody does it looks like a man

If you have or want any good wireless headphones that use a 2.4Ghz over USB, rather than shitty as Bluetooth, that would be a good option.

Any difference between the i5 or i7 for the x230?

Kek...
>Also why did you send a kid to Jow Forums. It is a 18+ site.

My mouse works on both bluetooth and 2.4Ghz, but it's much better on 2.4Ghz so I would do that and not have a dongle stick out.

Just got a thinkpad helix and installed linux mint on it. So far so good except this niggas gets hot as hell when you try and use it while charging.

Then do that.
I thought you wanted other ideas of things you could use for your internal USB, but if your mouse works better over the 2.4Ghz USB, then just do that, rather than Bluetooth.

My x230
What do?

Attached: 20180808_081033.jpg (5312x2988, 2.24M)

buy new / epoxy

What is the purpose of that line other than being a point of failure?

electrical tape desu, and hot glue beneath the lid

He's not me though, i could understand using a mouse when you have a touchpad but with the based trackpoint i don't need one.
Also i'm using wired headphones and a dac when it's docked, maybe one of those mini usb routers but using it as an AP seems kind of pointless.

>fuck off shekelstein i'm not falling for your jewish (((genuine))) shit
>yes goyim, buy the chink batteries, and make sure you also remember to choose only Shekelberg Building Supplies when you need to rebuild your home after the eventua- er, I mean, any potential fires!

I can't think of many useful things to use a USB port for that would benefit from being internal, to keep the dongle inside.
You pretty much have to think of any USB dongle that you would have a reason to plug in and never unplug.

Which only leaves wireless things as being useful, so a wireless mouse or headphones dongle. Although, I suppose you could do something weird, like put in a decent capacity USB to download shit to directly that you could more easily excrypt, quarantine, wipe, reinstall shit, etc., but the only use I see in something like that is if you're either doing something illegal or you're downloading extremely private shit.
