Overclocking
>Use PBO on Ryzen. Legacy overclocking is defunct on Ryzen 2#00X CPUs. youtube.com/watch?v=FC3fsVk9Sss

CPUs
>R3 2200G - Bare minimum gaming (dGPU optional)
>R5 2400G - Consider IF on sale
>R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs
>i7-8700K - Best for 1080p gaming, but most expensive when factoring in delid, high-end cooler, etc.
>R7 2700/X - Best high-end gaming/mixed usage on a non-HEDT platform
>Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT

Motherboards
>Only Z300 series Intel boards can utilize fast memory

RAM

Is it a bad idea to buy a refurbished motherboard?

Does thermaltake offer individual replacement panels? I want to get a second front panel for my suppressor f1 and experiment on drilling some holes in the front to improve front to back air cooling. But the website doesn't show that specific panel as a buying option

no. the only thing bad to buy used are hdds.

>But the website doesn't show that specific panel as a buying option
Then they probably don't. Contact their customer support. If it's not even listed as out of stock I highly doubt it then.

is it a good idea to upgrade my i5 4590 to a ryzen 2700/3700. I tend to compress and transfer large +100gb files, surf te web on chrome with at least +15 tabs, a video on the other monitor, and the sims 4 running in the background. Sometimes I would play Bf1 and my cpu chokes as all 4 cores are at 100% most of the time.

I also have an Rx480 4gb, 3 wd blue hdd, and 12 gb of ram.

Is a R9 Fury a good replacement for x2 HD5870 both in term of performance and wattage?
I'd really like to bring down the 400W of heat generated by my machine.

12-core Threadripper 2 or 9900k?

Depends on application use. Isn't the 9900k 8c/16t and the TR 12c/24t? Significant difference if the application you use benefits from more threads.

I'm traveling alot and am wondering of the latest AMD APUs would be good to use in a very portable-friendly mini-pc? Originally was gonna get one of those laptops with them, cost around $400-700 from the range of r3's to r7's. However, I noticed that alot of the places I stay at have TV's that I can easily use for a monitor. Or even something with a tiny graphics card.

Waiting for next Black Friday since I'm not in a rush to make/buy something, and I already have my regular-built PC for gaymen at home.

That's what I'm afraid of. If I'm really hard pressed to do it in the future I'll just but up and buy a second case when sales are nice. Just seemed like an interesting way to improve temps

When the FUCK are the next gen Nvidia cards coming out/being announced? WHEN???

Going to purchase 860 EVO. Is it viable? What the heck is RAPID Mode?

Attached: ducktales-money-bin.jpg (677x508, 62K)

If you want less heat/better power consumption please do not stray from Nvidia
just buy a 1070ti and call it a day, it's the best value card right now. Get a 1080ti if you game at 1440p otherwise the 1070ti will serve you well.

Planning to build a new PC in the next couple months and hopefully snag some GPUs on the cheap. Who is better nowadays, AMD or nVidia?

after Trump's new Tariffs raise prices on all electronics by 20%

Unless you're buying top of the line, AMD is arguably better.
NVidia only wins with their flagship 1080Ti
AMD has a tasty alternative to everything else.

>snag GPUs on the cheap
do it before August 23. That's when Trump's new tariffs on China go into effect.
I hope you didn't vote for that retard.

I have a question:
How viable is a Mini-ITX motherboard for a gaming build?
My intention is to build a setup which is both compact and capable so I can roam with it fairly easy....

Attached: wonder.jpg (298x298, 16K)

I'm looking to build a lower spec home server, it's going to be used as a file server, seedbox, etc.
I don't need anything too crazy for CPU or RAM, I'm mostly interested in getting at least 6 SATA ports and drive bays. Other than that, trying to keep things as cheap as possible.
At first glance, the poweredge R710 or a similar LGA1366 system looks like a good deal, but after accounting for power usage it sounds like building a Ryzen system is a better deal after a little over one year of idle power usage, assuming $0.11/kW. Is there anything I'm missing?

Poweredge R710 for $132 with 2x E5640, passmark 8800, idle power usage 160W, load power usage 220W
vs.
Barebones ryzen system for ~$300 with an R3 2200G, passmark 7300, idle power usage 30W, load power usage 100W

Would you consider refurbished to be used?
What if there is a 5 year warranty?

nVidia on bang for buck and you might want to hold off til the next gen comes out this month if not in a rush.

Not blaming AMD for being shit thhough except on one point.

1. AMD MSRPS are still way above MSRP even after the mining pop.
2. AMD officially announced a little while ago that GPU's are on the backburner til 2019 due to a deal with Sony and some other bigwigs. I.e. GPU's aren't a big priority for AMD right now.

So until AMD decides to give GPUs officially better treatment (late 2019 most likely), safe to go with nVidia despite team green having shit-eating grins right now with the state of the competition.

> "portable" desktop
> roam with it fairly easy
> needs to take monitor
are you retarded? Have you heard of a laptop? They're a new invention as of 20 years, but I heard they can do what you need.

Relevant I guess. Loads of hotels and motels have nice stock TV's you can easily use HDMI or other connections with. The drawback is screen or privacy (if hanging at a person's house)

Only AMD gpu that is worth it is 580. If you think vegas are good youre delusional.

$600 for a 1080 strix fuck these nigger prices I want the old days back when you could get a mid range card for $200 and a top tier card for no more than $350
FUCK, this is enough to make me drop gayming

Is now a bad time to buy a new gpu? I'm deciding between a 1070Ti or 1080Ti, but should I wait for Nvidia to announce the next generation either to get that new generation or to get a price drop on the current ones?

>AMD has a tasty alternative to everything else
1060 shits on the 580 thanks to better temps and lower power consumption
1070ti shits on the vega 56/64
1080ti is king of the hill

remind me again why someone sane would willfully buy an AMD card now

They will announce it this month fuck's sake just wait it out, you wanna get pozzed at these current prices? Then wait.

Does the nx edg27 suffer from pwm dimming?

Do you really want a 2U server in your home? Unless you have the rack somewhere go with the Ryzen

The last AMD card I owned wasn't even an AMD, it was an ATI Radeon HD 3870 paired with an AMD Athlon X2. I remember the extremely poor driver support and the middling performance more than anything else, and I remember how thoroughly thrased it was by my friend's 8800GT, which was running on a shittier processor (an Intel Pentium D of sorts). Ever since I rebuilt my desktop in 2011, I've bought exclusively from nVidia. Theoretically, yes, some of AMD's mid-range cards are faster, but the consistently piss-poor driver support has turned me off them for a long time.

>AMD officially announced a little while ago that GPU's are on the backburner til 2019
Also this. The company just does not have the resources to fight both nVidia and Intel, they need to prioritize one at a time.

I read some rumors about an announcement but what does that actually mean? Is it going to be several months before there's anything new actually available or any price drop on the current generation, or do they usually announce new hardware right before it goes on sale?

I'm not Jensen just fucking wait and see

>mid range card for $200 and a top tier card for no more than $350
>no more than $350

I remember paying $500 for my GTX 680 in the summer of 2012, which is about $550 today with inflation. It was still pretty expensive. I could easily get a GTX 1080 for that price.

When will the time come to retire my 2600k?

Being poor sucks. Wish I had 100,000 I could buy a ton of cards and set them on fire that's what they fucking deserve

>1060 shits on the 580 thanks to better temps and lower power consumption
No. They trade blows in games The 580 does use more power but it also has a larger die. Oddly enough, the increase in power consumption is in parallel to the increase in die size
>1070ti shits on the vega 56/64
Vega 56 was meant for the 1070, but performs near identically to the 1070ti

1080Ti is king of the hill, as I mentioned.

All the AMD cards also come with Freesync which is very much worth considering as the Nvidia G-sync equivalent is often $200 more expensive at minimum.

>That's when Trump's new tariffs on China go into effect.
>I hope you didn't vote for that retard
Not him, and didn't even vote in the last election, but it's perfectly reasonable for the US to retaliate against China's ridiculous trade practices. Their whole country operates on a neo-mercantilist model where they try to maximize exports and secure market access everywhere else, but then protect and coddle domestic industry with a combination of their own tariff and non-tariff barriers, in addition to helping domestic companies steal foreign IP. Fuck them. The fact that you have to pay slightly more for your gaymen cards is going to hurt them way more than it will hurt you or I. They have to be taught a lesson at one point or another.

Summer of 2017 was a fiasco. I wanted a 56 so bad that I decided not to buy a 580 4g at $180 at beginning of may. What a blunder that was.

I'm not him but out of curiosity I looked back at my past purchases. I bought a 560 for $199 in 2011 and a 970 for $340 in 2015. Unfortunately I can't find what I paid for the 6800GT and 8800GT I had back in the day.

I'm looking to retire my 2500K pretty soon after almost 7 fucking years of loyal service.

Not even pol but Trump was the lesser of two evils, politics is a total shitshow but if Clinton on I'm sure we'd see her import refugees by the millions. Anything's better than that

I wonder how 2020 is gonna turn out. Who the Dem's (or another party depending on how big this progressive train is sgetting) are gonna field. Everyone afraid to associate with trump but he also has a shit ton of silent supporters growing more and more frustrated. Even in the Rural area I moved to recently is suffering from the effects of men being worked against in managerial positions.

Yeah, I'll concede that midrange cards used to be cheaper, but not by much once you account for inflation. That $199 (which I assume was reduced from launch price, since the GTX 560 came out in 2010) would still be about $225 today, so an equivalent card (1060) can be had for about $50 more. Normally we would not be fazed by that small of an increase, but I think the reason why so many people are so incensed is because the price of midrange cards really fell quite precipitously up until about 2015-2016. So when the increases came, they were about $100 more than we were used to paying, which was quite a shock.

If The Dems push anyone who isn't a Bernie-style progressive, Trump will get a second term.

That said, let's end the politics talk and just bitch about the new dick measuring contest- I mean tariffs

>but it's perfectly reasonable for the US to retaliate against China's ridiculous trade practices.
when done in an intelligent way, tariffs make sense. Tariffs should be used as a last resort AFTER trade negotiations have failed. Trump didn't even attempt trade negotiations and went straight for tariffs not understanding anything about it and not having any semblance of an end-game plan.

>politics is a total shitshow but if Clinton on I'm sure we'd see her import refugees by the millions.
You do realize Fox new isn't really news right? Even Fox themselves have admitted it's just a Trump propaganda machine now.
No one on the Democratic side has EVER argued for open trade borders. But you know who did? Reagan.

>People still supporting trump through everything
lmao. Imagine being that brainwashed by propaganda

now that the short commercial break with politics involved has come to an end, we go back to our guest user tonight, and he's very eager to discuss PC hardware.
He's eager to find out when the SF600 Platinum releases, as it has been uote some time since it's initial announcement at Computex 2018. What could Corsair be planning?

Seriously when will they release the SF600 platinum already?

Attached: mic.jpg (800x600, 74K)

>SF600 Platinum
that looks cute as fook.

>Tariffs should be used as a last resort AFTER trade negotiations have failed
We had raised this matter with China for years while Obama was still in power. They did nothing, and in fact, things got worse under Xi, who's obsessed with this "great rebirth of the Chinese nation". They make very little effort to conceal the fact that they think everything is ultimately a zero-sum game between China and the West. For China to win, the West must either stagnate or decline. Trump, who also thinks of everything as a zero-sum game, knows that he is up against someone who will not negotiate in good faith. His end game with the tarrifs is to use them as a stick, and the prospect of their removal as a carrot. This is a classic negotiation tactic of his- he'll throw an incendiary grenade into your house, cut the phone lines, and then offer to call the fire department on his cell, but only if you give him what he wants.

The place where tariffs don't make sense is against Canada and Europe. Neither economy has a lot of unfair trade practices and the tariffs do nothing more than alienate people who should be US allies.

I paid $249 for my HD 3870 and I think my friend paid like $10 more for his 8800GT. Which only made me all the more saltier about the 25% performance gap.

Zen 2, when? GTX 1180, when?
My aging PC is screaming for an upgrade and I want something to drive my 1440p 144hz Gay-Sync (tm) monitor.

>tfw bought nitro + 580 for 245
>bought b-stock 1080 last night for $300
>got cold feet and cancelled the 1080
I am getting anxiety like I fucked up big tiime. I just worried about the card failing. too late to do anything now but it still makes me feel sick

Ryzen 2600x/2700x or the 8700k are perfectly fine for 1440p/144hz. The GPU is going to the bottleneck at this point.

how is the new bios for msi b350 mortar? anyone knows?

you deserve nothing but the best. Wait for prices to fall on the 1080 and grab a strix or the next gen card.

Is it okay to stop waitfagging now if I'm going to have to pay ~$450 more at the end of the month?

Don't stop waitfagging

But my $1800 build will cost $2250 at the end of the month. That's way overbudget.

>Is it okay to stop waitfagging now
Until the leaks push back the release date past this month or we have actual prices just wait. But if you don't have a GPU at all then I guess you can't afford to wait. I'd wait if you're upgrading.

Welcome to the real world, Jeremy.

Ok stop waiting it is.

I'd have to return my 580 and wait for a few months for new cards. I'm still using a 660 and can't play any new games at even 60fps on low graphics.

You already bought a 580, kept it and then also tried to buy a 1080? Why? The 580 is fine for 1080p/60fps. Just wait since you already have a card and can't play with your other one. If you find that you need more than what the 580 gives you then look at buying whatever the 11/20 series is.

Every Wednesday at 2 AM Central time EVGA has their weekly sale and you can get some crazy deals. Got this bad boy superclocked 1080 with the good cooler for $330.

Attached: 08G-P4-6183-RX_LG_1.png (600x600, 70K)

Built my first a couple months ago: ryzen2600, evga 1070 sc, 16gb 3200. What advantage would overclocking either my cpu or gpu give me over running it stock? I've got ryzen master and xOC downloaded, but I don't know the first thing about it all. Specifically curious about:
>does cpu over clocking improve gaming
>how to adjust speed and voltage on cpu and gpu without giving it too much or too little power
>is k boost a meme
>how long should a cpu or gpu be run when it's overclocked

I did bump the cpu speed up to 3.6 from 3.4, but probably just gonna put it back until I know what I'm doing

Just watch overclocking videos. Most important is your RAM anyways.

>560 equivalent to 1060
That's what Nvidia wants you to think.

Attached: Nvidia die size and performance tier to MSRP inflation.png (700x646, 41K)

With numbers like that how could I not trust you. And do you mean stock ram or ram over locking?

Because I bought it the same night. It had just got shipped out so I bought it anyways and was going to just deny the package at my door to get it refunded. It comes on friday. I just worried a lot about the 1080 failing or bricking out of warranty so I cancelled

The new prices are really shit. Wtf
And that's msrp. They literally choose the most Jewish prices as everyone in the world predicted. What's wrong with these wankers?
And what makes it worse is that smaller dies normally equal greater yields which equals lower price to manufacture. Am I right?
These muthafuckers!!

My Pg278Q (1440p, 144hz, gsync, TN) died last night after a year and a half so i went to best buy and bought the cheapest thing that looked like a deal
I got a Lenovo L24Q (1440p, 60hz, IPS) for $180 did i do ok
Also what can i actually buy to replace my PG278Q since this monitor is temporary for now

Attached: memes.jpg (1280x720, 136K)

Stupid question incoming:
Can you rotate AM4 CPU coolers by 90/180/270° ?

So the 2080 is gonna match/beat the 1080ti? Neat.

180, yes. The others no. Am4 uses a rectangular socket mounting pattern.

PG279Q
IPS is legit, fuck those TN panels.

You got 3200 cl16 right? You should be fine with DOCP aka AMD XMP.
Stability test with something like HCI memtest for min 100 or 1000% for paranoia safety.

used 1080ti's for $425 on ebay. worth picking one up or do you guys expect prices to drop significantly after the new cards release

Couture leather jackets aren't gonna buy themselves.

Your old panel should be still under warranty you Ponce.
>buying an expensive monitor as a temp
I hope your really going to use it after you get a new monitor

>used 1080ti's for $425 on ebay. worth picking one up or do you guys expect prices to drop significantly after the new cards release
Looking at the new card prices you might actually find people holding on to their old cards.
I know myself there is no way in hell I can justify their new prices unless they're atleast a %50 performance gain.

is it unreasonable to be considering another brand solely based on my year and a half breakage of my PG278Q? Ive seen plenty of monitor reviews but almost no long-term ones.
I bought the PG278Q hoping that it would outlast my GPU but instead it died a few months after the warranty expires. Acer has pretty much the same monitor lineup as asus, are there any reasons why one brand could be better than another. Im assuming they all use the same panels but my PG278Q died from electrical issues
Warranty broke, says newegg
I do realize $180 looked a lot cheaper at best buy with the mindset that i would eventually get a $500+ monitor, but i do like this monitor as far as 60hz goes, might keep it and dual screen when i get my real monitor

newegg gave a 1-year warranty and since i bought it refurbished (a key mistake) the manufacturer's several years of non-panel-fault warranty doesnt apply to me

>or do you guys expect prices to drop significantly after the new cards release
I'd not only expect prices of new cards to drop in prices, but for the used market to be flooded by people who are selling their current cards for new ones. Unless Nvidia goes fucking nuts and decides to price the 2000 series significantly higher than the 1000 series was. In which case I can't see why people wouldn't buy 1000 series cards or AMD.

>Unless Nvidia goes fucking nuts and decides to price the 2000 series significantly higher than the 1000 series was
They wouldnt...

What the fuck is a warranty broke?
Dumbass. Atleast you've learnt your lesson. Some things just aren't worth getting second hand

>is it a good idea to upgrade my i5 4590 to a ryzen 2700/3700.
For your case, it sounds like a good solution. Sounds as though Ryzen 3 is still just short of 12 months away so it may or may not be worth waiting for that if you feel you can hold out with your Haswell i5. With it come claimed improvements in IPC and likely clockspeed headroom. If it was me though, I'd just get a good B450 or X470 and throw in a 2600 as a placeholder.

Good 1080p monitor for 1070ti+8600k combo?

yeah but some things arent worth paying $600 for a new TN panel

An evga 1070ti with a s2417dg costs less than a red dragon vega 56 with a nx edg27 and supposedly runs better with a regular oc. Is flashing a vega 64 bios going to have the vega 56 surpass an oc'd 1070 ti or should I get the evga and upgrade to an 1170/1160 later on?
