how is porn not rape?

Cuckoldry is not rape

is cutting your own lawn theft of profits from a professional gardener?

/thread

Piracy isn't theft, it's attacking ships to take their stuff. So it's more like armed robbery than theft.

because you don't steal, you make copies

Are you making money off it?

Since you can't tell me why it is theft...

QED

Try using that argument in court after violating patent law

Are you asking for a legal definition or an argument against piracy as theft? This thread suddenly seems pointless.

>patent
Slowing humanity down desu.

patent violation still technically isn't theft

No but with patent violations you don't actually steal anything you merely copy someone's idea and implement it yourself

my point still stands

How is being the OP not murder?

Yarr, piracy is not theft. I much prefer the term "pilfer"

Because theft removes the original from the owner.

Still not theft.
>hurr it's illegal so it must be the same
-You

I don't give a shit either way, I'll just keep doing it as I always have

plural piracies
1 : an act of robbery on the high seas; also : an act resembling such robbery
2 : robbery on the high seas
3 a : the unauthorized use of another's production, invention, or conception especially in infringement of a copyright
b : the illicit accessing of broadcast signals

your autism is showing

>copy and pasting == cut and pasting

Patent laws are as annoying and as cucked as piracy laws to be quite honest familia

You won't be charged with theft, you'll be sued for copyright infringement.

It's consensual?

If you are torrenting and downloading from an IP that is located in another country that has absolutely no copyright laws then the person seeding file is not breaking any laws and you are downloading copyright-free material.

gnu.org/philosophy/words-to-avoid.html#Piracy
Publishers often refer to copying they don't approve of as “piracy.” In this way, they imply that it is ethically equivalent to attacking ships on the high seas, kidnapping and murdering the people on them. Based on such propaganda, they have procured laws in most of the world to forbid copying in most (or sometimes all) circumstances. (They are still pressuring to make these prohibitions more complete.) If you don't believe that copying not approved by the publisher is just like kidnapping and murder, you might prefer not to use the word “piracy” to describe it. Neutral terms such as “unauthorized copying” (or “prohibited copying” for the situation where it is illegal) are available for use instead. Some of us might even prefer to use a positive term such as “sharing information with your neighbor.” A US judge, presiding over a trial for copyright infringement, recognized that “piracy” and “theft” are smear words.

how is selling bottled water not theft?

Copyright has no place in a world where we can make endless digital copies of things with the click of a button at no cost other than the storage medium. Old farts can't let it go, so they try their hardest to make copyright infringement into a criminal offense.

The problem won't truly be solved until universal income is a thing. After all, people deserve to be paid for their work, but no one wants to pay to listen to music, watch movies, read books, etc.

How is this thread not shit?

Intellectual property has no place in this day and age. Trying to pass off work you didn't create as your own will be viewed as wrong and dishonest without or without a law for it.

/shit

Yes that's why it's patent law not theft law that is being charged.

it's just copying stuff lmao

>it's just murder man lmmfao

our memetic society requires us all to respect the intellectual/virtual property otherwise it will collapse

Patent law was created for a reason, that reason being artist were discouraged from writing when anyone could copy their book and sell it as their own.
There is argument to be made that current copyright law is too strict and grants too much power on copyright holder.

>you merely copy someone's idea
this is sadly usually not the case, more often than not you get an idea and later you get sued and discover that someone else had the same idea first and patented it. A lot of patents cover very trivial and obvious "innovations"

false equivalence

Where did you get this from? The english language is a mutt language with no academy, so you can't quote any dictionary as a source of authority. Unless you can prove that this is what the Queen of England defines, then you've got no leg to stand on.

>Trying to pass off work you didn't create as your own
That is plagiarism.Copyright faggots want to control the spread of information like a bunch of communists.

>the illicit accessing of broadcast signals
dafuq
if you don't want people to listen to your broadcasts, why broadcast in the clear in the first place.

Pirate radios.

>use youtube-dl to pirate dozens of YT videos
>next morning on the news
>"Dozens of famous YouTube videos stolen; baffled YouTubers wonder where their videos went."

Intellectual property doesn't exist. Patents were created by 300 years old boomers that though that you can run out of thoughts.

ingenious post...
unlike OP's nigger post.

Enjoy the shower fun, boii.

>pirate dozens of YT videos
How do you pirate something nobody even really owns?

How IS it theft?

How are video games not murder?

Videos can be copyrighted, sperg

My feelings make it so.

I'll just copy the keys to your house then.

based video heister

Because no one loses anything. You can't even argue that companies lose money from piracy, you would have to prove that the person was going to purchase it and instead pirated it.

This. If I couldn't pirate it, then it doesn't mean I'm going to buy it. On another light, 99% of my bought media and more are all thanks to piracy.

Nigga u missing the point.Merely copying the key is not illegal btw.

Tell me how society will collapse if our (non-sensitive) information is shared.

Give me one scenario where freedom of information will be a detriment.

can't sell software

Seems to be working well for Linux. Are you telling me those multi billion dollar companies or the now trillion dollar company would stop making tech or would stop improving their products because their CEO’s can no longer afford to buy a third mansion? There will always be people that have a passion for technology and will want to keep improving it. Selling software is a result of someone with a passion for wealth that is always looking to improve the number in their bank account.

Copyright should stop people from stealing someone’s intellectual property and passing it off as their own in order for them to profit directly off of that property. Instead we wind up with the inhibiting of progress because people are greedy and don’t want to share.

It's theft of intellectual property. you are using that software without paying for the license to use it for your own personal enjoyment.

> You're are supposed to pay for that fun you're having with our product goyim.

>Seems to be working well for Linux.
are they making money?

enjoy your gimp btw

>Copyright should stop people from stealing someone’s intellectual property and passing it off as their own in order for them to profit directly off of that property
whats the difference between
passing it off as your own and
not needing to pay for it
if the end result is profit?

Well because piracy is basically sharing with a ton fuck of people, the original product is never lost or stolen it's there available to whoever wants to buy.

>copyright is communist
Dude wat

There's nobody being deprived of anything they own

how is $20 for a movie ticket not theft? how is $20/mo for some 100 channel tv package when i only watch 2 shows not theft? how is working "in the business" for no more money than is required for living expenses nor theft? how is said job with $5k medical deductible not theft?

get fucked

the memes of society allow this

>implying you can claim ownership of "ideas".

How about this? I will copy your key, your passwords, tls keys, ssh private keys and post them on the internet attached to your name, email. I'll throw in step by step directions own exactly what to do to screw you over. So would you let me do it? I wouldn't do anything but copy/share that information. What do you think? Maybe just maybe I stole a secret from you.

The people I got the media from just gave it to me. I didn't steal anything. If someone gives you a car, is it theft?

So much this. You walk away from a movie theater with nothing but a memory. If you spend the $20 ticket price on the DVD when it comes out, you at least have something tangible. When I pirate something, I do it to avenge the wrongs done to movie goers by greedy jew bastards.

Is a copyrighted song confidential information? Take your pills nigga.

>Libraries are theft

>do I need virus software
topkek

It's becaue you're not stealing anything, you're copying.

>How is pedophilia not child abuse?

is it if you duplicate the child?

No, because pedophilia isn't child abuse to begin with, brainlet.

You're not stealing tangible items.

Piracy is a actually green friendly

Computating piracy takes electricity though and electricity is made with fossil fuels mostly.

The craziest part is that copyrights are now involuntary.
If I draw a cartoon and publish it in my name, there is now an automatic copyright that lasts until 70 years after my death, whether I want it or not.
And if I want to "gift" my work to the public domain, anybody with any kind of tangential connection to the work has a chance to claim ownership first.

Piracy is theft. If I couldn't pirate, I couldn't access most of the media I consume, and would use the extra time to acquire financially beneficial and life-enriching skills. Piracy has stolen these things from me.

you got rid of them

Why should you pay for property that you won’t even own?

^Also this^

It doesn't matter if it's theft or not, it's irrelevant to its morality or amorality. Only idiots think illegal = bad.

illegal = bad

why else would things be illegal ?

Ya, I pirate cause fuck hollywood (a lot less now as hollywood has decided that the best way to cut down on pirating is to not release anything remotely watchable)
For software, I use debian (how is it smart to give shady software that you get from some tracker super user access to your computer?)
I guess stallman is right, communism works

>2020
>zucc is president
>using facebook is now legally mandatory, punishable by denaturalization
>oh well, it's the law so it must be right

There's lots of reason why things would be illegal, like increasing state control (gun control in various countries, any tax evasion law), muh feefees legislation that isn't based on any scientific data (billl c-16 in canada, anti-homo laws, possession of cp/loli), kneejerk reactions to appease voters that doesn't do anything (bumpstocks).

Laws are not intrinsically just or righteous, and if you believe they are, you are an idiot.

( ( ( ((( P A T E N T ))) ) ) )

This is trespassing

No, no it hasn't. You would just eventually find another distraction until you killed yourself.

Space communism is unironically endgame if the bare minimum has enough luxury.
That or just capitalism with heavy UBI.

Someone please kill this thread already.

>obey t. bootlicker

don't you have some asses to kiss rn? shoo shoo

everybody that wants their copyrights protected has an .com(munism) TLD

prove me wrong
protip: you can't

It's not .com(partment)?

It must be .com(munism), I think.

Their mindset is "Hey, your money is our money, here's my lawyer, he's now fairly taking your money away". Seems like communism to me.

companies are immoral entities that spy on their consumerbase using telemetry data and thus stealing from an immoral entity is not immoral

Piracy isnt wrong because big corporations are evil

That's just basic government operation, but if you don't pay them, they'll beat you, imprison you and even kill you. I'd rather take the commie lawyer.

Maybe it's .com(panionship)?

im glad you agree that the holocaust is good since it wasnt illegal in nazi germany
